Eh, it was trying to straddle the line between SMT and Persona and I don't think it succeeded. I liked how it brought the full Press Turn system in, but all the social sim and time management aspects of Persona were watered down and got super casualized. The job system was interesting in theory, but it was super grindy and didn't have the depth we lost with the lack of Demon Fusion.
If they're going to continue with this series, I think it's a good base to improve upon, but it ain't the savior of the JRPG.

I loved it. However. It's a very standard JRPG, almost paint by numbers standard. Other than coasting on the ol' Atlus charm, there's nothing truly remarkable about it. I'd go as far as to say it's overrated. Also some unfinished content here and there, I believe.

It was a really good proof of concept and I hope that more not!Persona games are made by the team.
My biggest complaints are all story/pacing related which are theoretically simple fixes. I think that as soon as your hair color changes the pacing just slows to a crawl and then there just isn't that much to do afterward. The school of mages should have been a dungeon (and I'm sure it was planned to be one originally) and the final stretch of the game feels very empty. The other thing that bothered me was how all the S.Link Confidants got happy endings. I was really surprised when I went through Alonzo's storyline but I felt that him coming back lessened the impact. The idea of a story naturally concluding in a melancholy or somber way should be explored with some of the side content in my opinion.
In terms of actual gameplay, I would love it if there was some aspect of choosing the order you get certain party members in. I know that would go against the whole Persona formula, but it would be nice if after getting your first couple of companions, you were able to choose where you wanted to go next out of 3 possibilities and each one got you a new character. Sort of like how Unicorn Overlord did it. It would be a lot of work to do well since you would need to script events multiple times based on who was present in the party when the event took place but I think it would make playthroughs feel more unique and provide a greater sense of agency to the player.
It would have been better if you were limited to a certain number of Royal Archetypes. Having to actually commit to a playstyle and/or choose only one or two of your favorite characters to get their busted Archetype per playthrough.
