Did you know that the way the game is programmed, the weather in the city is almost always rainy or foggy, with only a small chance of sunshine?

And it makes sense, really; Vice City is famously incomplete, with large chunks of the map being empty, and San Andreas is so ambitious that it can’t provide this level of attention to a single individual location. Of the classic trilogy, only GTA3 is this complete vision of the one, specific place.

I think the gameplay and missions are best in the trilogy. Its not as huge as SA but its overall a much tighter game

Have you seen the demaster? They literally took all the art-direction and atmosphere and replaced it with a generic unity look

GTA3 remains my favorite of the bunch. The humor is sharper but more subtle. The aesthetics are far grittier than most of the following games. The gangs are far less unforgiving. The radio OST feels less cherry picked and more reminiscent of an actual radio. Even the missions feel distinct from each other.

It is my favorite, but I acknowledge that it is not objectively the best GTA.

I know the game was supposed to be set in a pseudo New York but it always felt like Portland, OR to me. The amount of rain and overcast skies. The empty gray coastline. The various forest sections outside the city. The oversexualized red light district reminds me of how many strip clubs there are. Even the middle section of the map is called "Portland"

the thing that held back VC and SA for in a part was that they were exaggerating nostalgic elements of the decades they were depicting.
where as 3 felt more as its own thing.

San Andreas was my first GTA and it kind of spoiled the first 2. I've tried so many times to play Vice City and I get bored every time and drop it.

I've played it many years ago, and I don't remember any of it. Completely forgettable experience, especially when there's two games that are the same but better

I just see a shitty old game that wasn't capable of creating a photorealistic city yet so instead they make everything dark and gray so you can't see the crappy textures and low poly models as much. Kinda crazy how this and GTA 5 is a single generation apart. And you can directly compare because GTA SA had the same areas as GTA 5. Went from weird Minecraft-esque block terrain and cities to graphics that barely look old.

i love how most of the radio music is original music made for the game specifically, i think is one aspect of the "GTA 3 feeling" that is often overlooked in discussion but that i feel adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game.
