gives you an existential crisis
Gives you an existential crisis
No?
Black holes are scary
Yes?
The developer tried to hide the shaders behind encryption, but I managed to crack it and add my modifications to improve performance so I could render millions of stars at 8K.
this is the one game I can't get running on linux and it's driving me nuts
why would it?
set camera speed to 1c and start from Earth
wait why tf am I not moving
actually realize the fastest possible speed in the universe is the equivalent of crawling across Antarctica in terms of getting anywhere
this was NOT good for my space exploration fantasies
I had grim thoughts about space even without this game (it's not a game though). It's just unbelievably vast and we're trapped in this solar system forever.
I don't understand why a lot of scientists seem to think that black holes are actual "wormholes" (to fucking what?) or that they're just literal points, like little dots in space. When in fact they're just extreme cases of pulsars, magnetars, and whatnot. Or rather, those are all just failed black holes. Of course, their event horizon doesn't mean their actual size, so a massive giganigger black hole isn't THAT big, it's just that it's surrounded by some space where its gravity is so massive that it doesn't let any light out, so it's just black. But inside it's just a fucking lump of insanely compressed matter, just like pulsars. It's just past a certain threshold that prevents anything from leaving (except Hawking radiation, yeah, yeah). The "other side" of this "wormhole" is just being fucking pulverized by extreme radiation, heat and gravity and becoming a frosting on the surface of this round lump of matter
the subjective experience of traveling at 1c would be instant thoughever
feel the righteous urge to conquer it all
Did you release it?
I guess because it shows that the entire Solar system is like a grain of sand in the Sahara, just a total nothingburger in the grand scheme of things
tried to hide the shaders behind encryption
Faggot
turn stars off.
what? No it wouldn't. Local time remains the same for the traveler
I was already aware of it so it didn't really mean much. The solar system (and more accurately earth, but let's be optimistic) is the only thing that should matter to us, the rest is too distant to do anything with.
According to Veritasium it follows Einstein or something
photons don't experience time
but being stuck on one planet is just a prolonged death sentence, we need to 4X this shit instead of waiting to be wiped out by
a solar flare
an asteroid
yellowstone erupting
pajeets/slavs throwing nukes
another ice age
another coof
etc.
Space exploration is impossible
Earth is like a dust particle on an endless beach
The sun is like a grain of sand on the same beach
And to travel from our grain of sand to another grain of sand would take years and years of real time, even if you somehow managed to reach the fastest possible speed. But you won't
You won't care in two cases. If you're just stupid and have a low IQ, or if you have a high enough IQ to just accept it and never think about space again
I want a Distant worlds game that looks like this, or Spore 2.
Existing in this universe is a prolonged death sentence. We just run into the issue of how much do we want to sacrifice to send seed-ships to a theoretically habitable planet as if that has any intrinsic value in itself.
believes in the oyter space propaganda
Good goyim
believe
you can see it with your own eyes
ok I thought about it some more and I guess I see your point. Anyway the point is that space travel is so crazy difficult and slow, we may never get the hang of it
Isn't it just a few months to get to Mars? Anyway, we're exploring it right now.
dur let me spout shit to win an argument that will never be proved or solved in our life time, or ever
science niggers need to solve shit actualy achievable like off world colonization and sustainable energy
I just want a Distant worlds 2 that fucking works
Thats the Filament you twat
Accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior. As long as you think there's something beyond the universe hell hole the better off you will be mentally.
special relativity and time dilation has been experimentally proven
off world colonization
need to find a viable world first, blame governments (your vote) for not putting money in building bigger space telescopes
sustainable energy
we have nuclear energy in tons of forms, enough to power us for thousands of years in case we never figure out fusion.
God's perfect earth
hell hole
we'll never colonize another planet
just believe fairy tale instead of accepting reality bro
Isn't it just a few months to get to Mars
Just like in 2005, by the way. Nothing has changed since then.
But yeah, eventually there will be people on Mars. Maybe. Why not? But it doesn't matter anyway, because there's nothing to do and it will cost a lot of money. This solar system is our cradle and our coffin, we'll never get out of it. So space is just a meme overall. Honestly, there's no point in thinking about it. Don't get me wrong, I love reading shit about space, but it could just be science fiction for all that matters.
so we have faster than light travel to prove that bullshit?
Good thing they don't actually exist.
we already did tho
NTA and I would like to support Christians just to spite kikes and sandniggers
Existing in this universe is a prolonged death sentence
we have billions of years to invent a way to access the Great Fireball that produces new universes and use it to become a species independent of time and space
Why? I actually have the same opinion but I wanna see how much your theory differs from mine
Science is in spite of all three delusions
Projectrho, the entire site exist to ruin your dreams about space. We will never escape our solar system. We will never colonize anything inside solar system. We will never reach any reasonable deltav. We will never reach 10% of speed of light.
It's all over.
No, it's just my own experiment that breaks some things, but here it is.
pastebin.com
It goes into addons/shaders/star_point.glsl. I haven't tested it for years, though.
we have billions of years
Who we? You won't even live 100 years. And your descendants will be busy killing each other instead of "inventing" anything. The earth will be an empty polluted hellhole with no White people and the rest will just kill each other WAY before the sun (and this solar system) dies
There's no such thing as race
why do we need faster than light travel to prove it? muon decay already proves time dilation.
You're jewish, though
terraforming is a crapshoot and 99% of people who believe it is humanity's destiny to colonize the galaxy have never given it any real thought. living millions of miles away from the earth's magnetosphere will do things to us we probably can't even imagine
Jewish athiests are literally allowing their own goyim-demoralizing ideology to demoralize themselves
Lmao! Better get in your suicide pod labeled with "we are fucking made of stardust". Meanwhile I know I am in the eternal glory and providence of God's firmament.
civilization reached its highest peak when the most developed white people were praying to rabbit bones for rain
Who are you talking to
Yeah but human development proves you wrong. Hell we went from no internet and no AI from fully connected mankind and machines being better at intellectual tasks than 99% of humans in less than 30 years. Maybe technological progress is going parabolic, maybe we're going to all become extinct soon. The point is no one knows the future.
muon decay
why does ice melt slower above the equator than at the equator
case closed
they didnt prove shit
NTA but I think seed ships are doomed to societal collapse unless nobody on board is awake and some AI manages everything
ftl is not possible and ftl = time travel
don't bother with ftl dreamers
why does ice melt faster when it gets more heat
we may never know the answer to this one
But didn't the firmament fall?
You don't need FTL, you just need to travel at like 95% light speed to experience only 50% of travel time, achievable with 1g acceleration
When all the people in the group all share the same goal, it ought to make things smoother. But yeah, that kind of expedition would be really hard to achieve. Finding adequate volunteers alone would be a headache.
same thing with muons interacting with the atmosphere: it effects the chemistry of the particles but doesnt extend time
who ever is wasting money on these shitty experiments proving nothing is just helping to launder money
I agree, but the reason it will never even begin in the first place is because, imo, there is simply no good economic incentive. To put it in simple terms it's just too fucking expensive and cumbersome and the return on investment will never be worthwhile because you will have to haul stuff from the Earth and back. Every time we have colonized another place on earth there was a strong economic incentive to do so and I don't see that ever materialising for space colonization. If we discover some rare material on some other planet that we need to make some theoretical future machine we aren't gonna mine it until machines will be able to mine it autonomously.
a more fair reason than most
christian values are at least not as batshit as islam despite the source material
all share the same goal
the first generation will (and even that's debatable after 10 years on some tin can in space) but tell that to the 3rd generation that will die in space. Read Chasm city for a great interpretation of that
No black holes don't exist, black holes are gravistars with a gravity inversion due to antimatter.
turn mercury into the mining factory of the system
cover venus in white balloons
colonize the moon
terraform mars
mine the asteroid belt
colonize the jovian moons
15 years ago there was no economic incentive to cover lower orbit in micro satellites providing internet but musk made it cheap and now everyone's trying it. These things can move quickly. Imagine if billionaires started going to the Moon for clout
good. life is hard but i like this planet. it's not something to be so casually discarded
Every time we have colonized another place on earth there was a strong economic incentive to do so
Not true. The prehistoric settlers, for example the ones who crossed the frozen sea between Eurasia and Alaska, did it for unknown reasons. Same for the Vikings who supposedly set foot on American soil long before Christopher Columbus did. You shouldn't see everything under the capitalistic lens.
It would need a quasi religious devotion to the cause I guess. Which could lead to other problems. It's definitely not the easiest solution.
We need to colonize the moon before we do anything else. I will be our launchpad into space and we can do all the manufacturing we want without environmentalists breathing down our neck. Earth will be the capital of the solar system for now and forever throughout pur jounrey into space and all colonization attempts will revolve around Earth for it's cultural legacy and deep rooted infrastructure, so the Moon being close by is extremely valuable.
If the inside of a black hole is where not even light can escape, that means that all particle interaction decays. Like how can you have a tightly packed together body when there is literally nothing that can contrast the force of gravity pulling all of that towards one single point. At some point the particles would physically not fit in together. How can a particle apply an infinite repulsive force?
Wait until you find out we don't know how most our own solar system actually looks like let alone the nearest stars and planets
That blotch of color in the sky dimmed for 3 arcseconds this means there's an Earth-like planet that may house life bro, here's an hallucinated image of what it could look like, now give me that grant
pollute and destroy the moon so you can build strip malls on ganymede, bro
no
I firmly believe that there are several types of mindsets in mankind. Some people are like trees and feel the need to get rooted on their land, and others feel the urge to discover new horizons. Both shouldn't have to live together.
the moon is moving away from the earth at 1 inch per year
better start that moon colonization project quick before it;s too late
also im willing to bet transporting copious amount of material to the surface of the moon to make it habitable will inevitably cause it to crash into the earth
i believe planetary bodies that have their weight augmented even by like 1% will cause irreparable changes to their typical rotation patterns
There is nothing on the Moon to pollute and we have no capacity to completely destroy the moon as of now. This is just anti-growth brainrot.
Of course nobody know what exoplanets look like, it says everywhere these are only artists' impressions.
went from
It's diminishing returns from here on out. We have almost reached the limits of silicon-based architectures. My uneducated prediction is that after the massive advances of the last 20 years, the next 20 years will be the same as today. To keep it gaming related, I'd like to point out that graphics and GPU advances are almost at a standstill. This is why nvidia is now relying on interpolated fake frames and dlss. Because they literally can't improve the physical chips anymore, so now they focus on software. The text-completion algorithms (basically T9) that you (and jewish marketers) call AI won't advance that far either until there are some noticeable advances in quantum computing (if that's even possible beyond the meme stage it's in now)
better at intellectual tasks than 99% of humans
What is intellect? The last time I checked, modern technology could only emulate the brain of a small fruit fly. And the T9 text completion algorithm (which you call AI) is just a computer algorithm. Or do you think a calculator is smarter than humans just because no one can multiply huge numbers in a fraction of a second?
Maybe we're all going to be extinct soon.
Most definitely. Fossils will end at some point, after which humanity will return to the middle ages
human development proves you wrong.
The point is no one knows the future
Yeah, you contradict yourself. Human development proves shit exactly because nobody knows the future. Except that we all die in the end and on this planet, that's for sure
i believe planetary bodies that have their weight augmented even by like 1% will cause irreparable changes to their typical rotation patterns
Just take an amount of moon sand equal in weight to the stuff you're bringing in and shoot it into the Sun.
ez
The amount of Mass we add to the moon will be completely negligabe and probably we'll remove much more mass on average. It will take the Moon billions of years for it's rate of escape to become noticable.
by like 1%
do you know what an insane amount of mass 1% of the moon is? That's a lead cube 30 miles tall. Nobody is ever putting that on the Moon
sounds like a waste of money
better just leave it for the futurians to deal with
it's anti-consumption. you won't accomplish anything but consume, destroy, and defile
humanity will in time
just like they fucked this planet up enough in time
hope yall like your skin cancer diagnosis this year
Yeah, they slow my PC to a fucking crawl when I get close to them
I couldn't even fly into one if I tried
Impressive, most impressive
Now I wish that the developers updated the star colors to be more accurate along with implementing volumetric clouds and thicker atmospheres
antimatter
The biggest meme of this universe
I mean, there's something there, sure, but until it's actually been studied, I'd refrain from making any hypotheses based on this spooky matter
imagine the lonely death of the fist mars colonists
stare into hostile orange nothingness
oxygen slowly running out
one of the team starts freaking out and telling the others they've made a mistake
the psychosis spreads
earth ground control is trying to keep order but they're just a small tv screen with no power
someone offs themselves
eventually oxygen/food runs low so you all have to take your suicide pills
what happened to seeding the entire planet with short lived oxygen producing lichen
this will take centuries if it works at all, you know for a fact some narcissist billionaire like Musk won't wait that long and will convince a team to go die for his glory
Time dilation objectively exists you stupid nigger. You only experience time due to travelling slower than lightspeed.
you sTOOPID ANIMAL
TIME DOESNT EVEN EXIST
imagine living on a dead planet in the void millions of miles away from everything you've ever known. colonization is a crapshoot. either it will psychologically destroy you or you'll adapt and become unrecognizable to terrans
start by sending robots to mars
they build the whole colony and start growing plants
when everything is ready we send people
keep sending people and expand the colony
people go exploring a whole new planet
humanity is more safe now when spread across two planets and a moon
ToughSF blog has interesting articles about each planet colonization in our system. It sucks cocks.
At some point the particles would physically not fit in together
That's why all black holes are different sizes, in case you hadn't noticed. This "compression" is not infinite, it's not like they keep getting more and more mass while staying the same size. We don't know shit about such highly compressed matter. But as we see, it just happens. Pulsars are failed black holes. If you want to know what's inside a black hole, just look at a pulsar
all particle interaction decays
What does that mean
infinite
Mathematics should get the fuck out of astrophysics. There's nothing "infinite" in space
they build the whole colony and start growing plants
fucking CENTURIES of work, not viable for how humans think. Not to mention our robots still get confused by a slipper on the floor or a dog turd
We can't have nice things.
If time doesn't exist, how could I have sex with your mother YESTERDAY?
Checkmate, son
HOLY SHIT DAD WHY WONT YOU STAY DEAD
A blog dedicated to helping Science Fiction authors create and discuss worlds where a realistic setting can still serve the fiction
neat. I hope people don't take it TOO seriously though, otherwise you end up with something like Alistair Reynolds where he spends more time talking about Lagrange points and Roche limits than developing the characters
Maybe you're right, we'll see. Never forget that sometimes things can accelerate in an instant thanks to some discovery. You can't really predict innovation. Just look at how people were imagining the present day 60 years ago. They were all wrong.
Yeah, you contradict yourself.
I don't think so. Not everything has to be grimdark. I guess I'm more of a half full glass person than you.
implies
into the trash
I've heard this before but how is it possible? One thing happens before another that's time.
it's over chud
Looks legit.
reynolds got better at characters pretty quickly thoughever, and it was never realistic scifi
If there's something better beyond thus universe to begin with, with the actual FUCK did we start out here?
Because we're type 0,2 shitty civilization. We don't have right to walk among gods.
