I think the problem with SF6 is that, either due to the recent focus of "not offending everyone" or whatever, the design philosophy of the costumes adhere to a more strict "culturally realistic" depiction of what the characters look like based on their ethnicity. Obviously there are outliers like Ken or Akuma who look more like a designed based on STORY than philosophy, or just newer designs like Luke and Jamie who seem to follow more of the old school style, or ones who were kind of always the same like Zangief or Dhalsim, Ryu looks like a japanese vagabond/monk, Chunli's outfit is much more generic and "chinese looking", Deejay is much more brazilian coded, Rashid literally looks like just another pajeet, Juri appeals to k-pop fashion, Lily who is literally just a mexican kid, Marisa is a generic Greek or Roman warrior or whatever, AKI who is just chinese. Then you have designs like Ed, Cammy, Blanka, Manon, JP who don't seem to have a specific reference in mind and just made shit up. SF used to be based more on LOOSELY referenced stylistic depictions of cultures. Compare Elena's much more boring and toned down but "realistic" depiction to what she was. Now she has "realistic hair", clothes, demeanor, music, setting, personality. But before she was a high energy, free spirited, cute, sexy, proud fighter who just went with the flow. Peak SF design philosophy are ones that are based on the idea of the culture and making it look cool and stylish while referencing it loosely, not being more true to its core. Otherwise you just get a snorefest. Because the best way to flatter someone isn't to copy them, it's to let them know that you acknowledge them, and make something INSPIRED by them.

Gief, Honda, Sim, Akuma, Dee Jay. Don't know if I'd say Ken's is BETTER but in terms of keeping him distinct from Ryu and doing something new with him it's excellent.

the character themes in sf6 almost all suck ass. Mai and Terry have okay themes. Ken's is alright. Marisa's sounds like a home depot ad.
I really love the 3SO Elena theme, it's the only one that is basically a new song instead of pretty standard remix and I think it strikes a good balance between the energy of OG Beats in My Head and Tomboy from 2i.

Listened to Beats in My Heart twice in a row and yeah that's a new classic. Not as iconic as Beats in My Head but I think they knew that and didn't try to top it in terms of the hook.
2nd Impact's entire aesthetic is slept on because 3S got all the tournament play. The stages, the OST, the UI, everything is gorgeous.

Unfortunately, despite 3s being a way better game than 2i, it's a downgrade aesthetically. The stages in 2i are a lot better. Compare Ken's stage in 3s to picrel, for example.
