Sometimes they're right, sometimes they're not. I think the issue is a lot of them grade too high. E.g. the floor for a well polished AAA game seems to be an 8 at a lot of outlets (or an equivalent score) which is ridiculous

Does anyone even read reviews of anything anymore? I haven't for years, if there's something I'm interested in I just look up gamplay from a third party and decide based off that if it's worth playing. I haven't sought out anyone's opinion about a game for years outside talking about a game I already like. I thought this was how everyone did it?

they all gave death stranding middling reviews but then backpedaled and said it was a 10/10 after it turned out much of the audience loved it. it is one thing to give a bad score, but backpedaling is cowardly and does not inspire trust or confidence in the review. did they backpedal to save face? did they write the initial review for what they expected players to want/enjoy? what was it? have shit takes and stand by them, that is far more trustworthy and respectable than just saying whatever you think will get you paid. i can read a review about a piece of media from someone who hates everything i like and still know whether or not that media is something i want to consume or not, because i can deduce that the things that make a piece of media for a person like that are things that would make it good for me. but if you just lie about everything, trying to get your next paycheck and keep readers engaged, then i can never trust anything you say. there is no solid foundation to build an understanding of where you are coming from when you speak about a piece of media.

I never read reviews and anyone who seriously does is incapable of thinking for themselves. I see a game that looks interesting, I look up a gameplay video without some faggot giving a useless commentary, and decide from there.
