DnD has currency other than gold, only problem is that they chose to make everything you spend most of your money on has a cost based off gold. You have copper and silver but you only would spend that on things like food and basic gear like rope or a rollout bed, but weapon gear and potions are all gold based. So yeah you can buy a healing potion with silver but since 10 silver is 1 gold you'd be giving someone 500 silver for a 50 gold potion so there's no point is giving the players any currency other than gold. Even things like downtime require the player spending gold rather than other other currency.

It's way better than using real life currency

Sorry, fairies

It kinda was like that IRL. The German word for money is literally gold.

With all the advancements in science we've made over the last 200 years and we still have people thinking humans are the results of a god making a man out of clay and a woman from that man's rib. So people still being total morons in the future isn't surprising. Some idiots just wanna believe there's a magical something out there that has some power over their lives so they can put a focus on it when things go bad. They don't like the idea that something awful happening to them for no reason other than it happened. There HAS to be a metaphysical reasoning behind it. It can't just be the way things turned out.
