Why did racing become a dead genre? Is it because the average gamer doesn't have a driver's license?

Why did racing become a dead genre? Is it because the average gamer doesn't have a driver's license?

Paul Walker died

its not really but its all high sim shit now while cool shit like burnout is dead forever or will have a shitty copy that doesn't even come up to par

ea kept releasing bad games same as they did with rts.

inb4 MUH SIMS KILLED THE GENRE MUH ARCADES KILLED THE GENRE

TOO LATE FAGGOT GET OWNED

Nowadays you either go the nostalgic route and fill your game with miatas and R34s or keep trendy and fill your game with boring ass EVs, station wagons and SUVs
In reality cars have become so boring lately that no one really cares about them anymore

Racing Lagoon was just that fucking good.

hq720.jpg - 686x386, 76.63K

I WAS JUST
A LITTLE TOO
JUST A LITTLE TOO

The genre is significantly more enjoyable with hardware that is prohibitively expensive. No one's going to drop a fortune on a decent peddle, wheel and racing seat. Its heyday was in the arcades.

It hasn't died, tens of millions of people play Forza Horizon, various sims like AC and Iracing are very popular too.
The issue is Horizon being so popular it pretty much killed everything else, and unlike shit like Fortnite, there's less money to be made in racing games, so other studios don't even care to try.

SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

That image is of a 2008 PC racing game that was designed for an Xbox controller and got a bizarre and unnecessary arcade port several years later.

Realism and DEI killed it. See NFS Heat. The most cringe dialogues with the shittiest songs ever. NFS peaked with old Most Wanted where you could kill cops with giant donut and stuff. Indies only try to make their games to look old but their gameplay is usually very bad, see Victory Heat Rally.

They killed any sense of progression. You don't even start with a shitbox in some cases and go straight to super car because of those sweet marketing deals.

I just don't find them exciting to play.

It’s alive and well. Mario Kart World will prove it

I don't know. They went the way of like those train simulators where people buy them to play as specific brands of cars instead of having atmosphere and fun races.

I'm open to playing more, but I'm not a car guy, you gotta give me more than just specific licensed cars.

This is the truth. Cars of the last 20 years are all the same fake-SUV, stupidly oversized truck, same shitty hybrid engine, or the same goofy "le future is here" EV. There's no variety even in chassis shapes any more, they all have very similar sized engines, there's just nothing.. (and no nobody actually gives a flying fuck about the latest horse car)

Grand Theft Auto IV came out and mogged all racing games so hard the genre imploded.
There are some playable games, Wreckfest and BeamNG but they're not quite on the level of the GOAT.

I miss the Midnight Club series. Fuck Rockstar for letting this franchise fade away.

Mario Kart is not a racing game.

dead genre?

but the most popular game ever is a racing game

file.png - 1477x805, 1.88M

Neck yourself, brown simp hellspawn.

What is it then?

Are you okay?

If you mute the music and skip all the story and dialogues NFS Unbound is a solid game..

It's a party game.

its a game where you race

Sadly yeah, open world slop has really eaten the arcade racing game's lunch. In GTA you can race as well as do tons of other shit, which is clearly superior to just a racing game.

I really enjoyed The Crew, just wish it was a better game, the second one was pure shit except for the map size.

Cars themselves became boring. If you're not gonna put all the classics and nostalgic ones, wtf are you gonna race ? Bland SUVs and EVs ? I know that I tend to say that driving shitboxes in gran turismo is cool but those cars are so mundane I'd rather have a Renault twingo race or an early 2000s yaris one.

gas prices too high, nobody can just drive for fun anymore

A party racer?

It's fucking nuts these days, man. Early 00s you could get bored and go on an interstate roadtrip for like $10 in gas, now that buys you like a quarter of a tank.

people don't get that this is part of GTAs magic. it's a racing game where you can kill homeless people with a bat

they better go all out in gta6. optional manual transmission and everything.

Mario Kart spawned a whole subgenre, "kart racers," dozens of cartoon license titles each one worse than the next, still racing tho

for real, if you threw your friend two dollars and fifty cents he would chauffer you around town

I have never killed any homeless NPCs in GTA, plenty of women tho.

file.png - 664x675, 601.97K

It's a pain to get my wheel and pedal set out / setup; I prefer some IRL light hooning in my miata.

Test Drive Unlimited devolved the genre into an open world slop without the life sim element that made it good

The Crew 2

you drive for likes and upboats

LMAO, ubishite is such a fuckig joke, they intentionally built up every so many games to ape Rockstar, but never had the barins or balls to achieve GTA's success

Which racing/car video game would be ideal for me?

I hate Mario Kart

I hate F-Zero

I hate Diddy Kong Racing

I hate Kirby Air Ride

Anti-Mario Kart game

Game with anti-Nintendo aesthetics

Game with anti-Mario Kart gameplay

oh me neither, it was descriptive.
it's a racing game where you can fuck hookers

Depends on whether you want arcade physics, life sim, or simcade

Celebrities who are travelling the world in private planes are saying it's bad because of climate warmin- I mean climate change.

i want a new star wars podracer game or at least something in that style where you're going sideways to slip through cracks and crevices.

I'm looking for realism.
I want car/racing games to look as anti-Mario Kart as possible.

And I want their gameplay to be as opposite to Mario Kart as possible.

Climate Change is real, but it will take rich people not being as rich to stop it, so it won't stop ;)

just play rrt4, it`s the goat

Something made in the 21st century gramps

Start with Wreckfest.

You want Anon Babble's videogame general then, Anon Babble is more of an Outrun/Sleeping Dogs board. Need for Speed is about as realistic as it gets.

Gran Turismo, Assetto Corsa, BeamNG take your pick from least to most realistic

Do you recommend any Need for Speed?
That's why I want to avoid games that feature or focus on illegal racing.

Sorry to drop this on you bud, but no one ever cared about cars.

Pro Street was good. The name speaks for itself, it was professional, sponsored street racing. It was legal.

play the night-runners demo, then
lowkey the best game of 2024

Street car culture is dead, ricing is dead, old shitbox restorations are dying, new cars are so locked down that you can't have fun anymore.
All this translates to interest in racing games.

Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed

I'll play Pro Street on my PlayStation 2.

Maybe I'll download the PSP version to play it on my emulator on my tablet.

Having a lot of shit games released in the 2000s and 2010s didn't help but the overarching issue is declining IQ rates. Games better not ever inconvenience the player ever, so no totalling of your car with too many crashes, no complex road layouts, no split-second decision making to be first. And apparently a lot of people are also filtered by having to break before turns, with one guy I know telling me once that "he couldn't tell when the car breaks" whilst playing an arcade racing game from 2010. And that's after I pointed out the break lights to him and that he should pay attention to them.
All of thess factors combined led to at best stagnation in the genre and at worst regression. A PS1 era racing game plays hardly any different to a PS5 era racing game.
Driving sims are too aftaid to properly challenge the player without resorting to bullshit difficultly like 100 laps, arcade racers are too afraid to add sim elements like a more robust damage system, and non-racing driving games like Driver were killed by GTA.
I don't expect the genre to ever see a proper revival either, since indie devs are mostly nerds who only care for fantasy and sci-fi shit, while most racing games need to be set in contemporary (or period piece) urban environments which are like kryptonite to indie devs for some reason.

Anon Babble doesn't know shit about cars or video games

died off like nu-metal and skateboarding, the cultural zeitgeist moved on

Honestly I never knew it got a PSP version.

cars

Well yeah. Easily the worst practical board. At least Anon Babble can hang a shelf, Anon Babble can make a swan and Anon Babble doesn't even pretend to care about anything other than mcchickens and booze.

videogames

In general sure, but they're pretty into their multi monitor racing wheel setups. Millenial balding stepdad with filipino wife core.

most indie devs are vegitarian hippie nerds or align with that culture to be indistinguishable from them, they loathe cars cause they worship walkable city ecotopia ideals and blame fossil fuels for the climate crisis, etc... the whole car culture is entirely alien to them

Can't believe I forgot about Dirt Rally that game is the most fun punishing driving game I can think of

Rubberbanding AI

That is all it took to kill the racing genre.

Millenial balding stepdad with filipino wife core

A perfect description doesn't exi-

just play Assfault 9/Legends, it's my most played game on Switch ;)

MC got merged into GTA. The bad part is losing the MC sovl but honestly, it's kinda better to not have real cars because it's annoying dealing with license bullshit that limits a lot of customization. If someone wants real cars just mod them in. I do very much prefer Forza Horizon's handling than GTA's handling though

Nobody really cared about that. Rubberbanding was only SUPER prevalent in GT1 and F-Zero GX. I seriously don’t remember a Need for Speed where rubberbanding was that big of a deal.

I do hate that you can't destroy "real" cars in crashes in most games, but suits will be suits.

I seriously don’t remember a Need for Speed where rubberbanding was that big of a deal.

The genre died because the 2000's import/tuning culture died. It was a cash cow for a couple years, companies capitalized and once the well dried they moved on. Forza Horizon 1 proved to be the next cash cow to milk and it still continues to make gorillions.

Arcade games are mechanically brain dead shit for retards and sim games are so boring and sterile aesthetically they might as well be sleep aids. Sim games with exciting settings is the unserved market where racing games would shine, sadly nobody is ballsy enough to do it.

This isn't a racing game, it's a jrpg for people who hate racing.

You gotta be trash at these games man. Underground 1 had that one mission now that I think about it, that was scaled off your car’s level though and not how fast you were going.

Like fighting games is just basic melee combat gameplay, racing games is just basic movement gameplay you do to get from mission to mission in games. It still has a small, dedicated fanbase in the thousands but gaming overall has long since evolved.

lmao

2141.png - 228x204, 72.49K

Maybe you should stop playing tendie shit and MK clones if you hate them so much. You'd probably like pretty much any highly regarded racing game that wasn't Nintendo since none of them operate that way besides maybe wipeout

It still has a small, dedicated fanbase

yes

gaming overall has long since evolved.

LMAO
to what, sharkcards and v-bucks???
kys zoom-zoom

Car culture is dead, also games aren't allowed to be fun and genuine anymore so only niche autistic simulators survive

Unfortunately and unironically, yes. I never said evolved for the better, retard. But you need to get over it. Driving is mostly just something you do in other games now and it's been like that for a long time.

nobody plays GTA to race lmfao they had a 2x week for races recently and it was still dead

The entire game is about street racing to and from crime scenes, and against cops and other players.

redoing the same years old races over and over to grind RP

nah
I will for new tracks tho.

Driving is mostly just something you do in other games now and it's been like that for a long time.

what flavor of retardation is this?

Real life. Maybe play some games sometimes?

Too many nigger music.
Also, I'm waiting for Initial D to come on PC, which it never will.

arcades were already on their way out when home racing games hit their peak. if anything it was arcades dying that allowed racing games to flourish

like what, GTA? Which has had driving in it since long before the driving genre died?
Also why didn't it kill FPS games too?

nobody cares about games with unlicensed cars
car licensing got more expensive
FPS games took over the industry for a decade because COD was so popular
car culture is dead because zoomers are too scared to get their license and because they've been raised under constant propaganda over cars being racist and the cause of the supposed imminent climate catastrophe

sim fags killed them

Driving in games is nowhere near as fun as it is IRL. Maybe with the right hardware it would be, but I'm sure as fuck not wasting hundreds of dollars just to maybe have fun in one game genre.

No one can afford brand licenses except huge corpos and they all make shit. GT7 is the best racing game currently, it has nice graphics and the cars feel fun to drive, but everything else is shit. It’s only on PS, it’s full of fomo shit and overpriced cars, shitty race payouts that require you to grind one race forever because it’s the most time efficient, car lineup rotations so you can’t buy them when you want and invitations awarded only through roulette which are random and you can’t buy certain cars without them and you have 1 month to use them once you get them.

Actually, the halfway sim halfway arcade abomination that's Gran Turismo killed racing
Simfags were happy with their GTR2 and RBR

Car licensing is very strange and I can't make sense of it, especially when it comes to crashes and police chases. The assumption is that the rare/expensive manufacturers don't want that stuff but then stuff like picrel comes along where you have all these super rare and exotic cars (for it's time) getting destroyed in quite graphic crashes and getting involved in high speed police chases. It makes no sense.

Are you completely retarded?

Last racing game I played a bunch was one of the project gothams. It's kind of boring just driving through modern cities. Controller or keybaord doesn't do it. I think being able to mod the car is a needed feature.

As a kid, my parents actually cared about age ratings, so I wasn't allowed to player shooters and had to play racing games for the most parts. So shooters became the cool forbidden fruit, while racers are the safe and boring option. Even now, I'm interested in guns but don't care for cars at all.

no u

great argument, dumbass.

be kids

we rent ps2 for the weekend

bro gets Gran Turismo 4

wow look so real

bro spends the entire weekend driving

I fall asleep on the couch watching him run the same race over and over

Was me when I watched a friend play the original Assassin's Creed after he invited me back to his place after school. I even asked him continuously when I could play. Was the last time I hung out with him alone.

super rare and exotic cars (for it's time)

They still are super rare and exotic cars now. This game's car list is still one of the best out there with so much variety in such a tight package.

images.jpg - 259x194, 7.06K

lol, what a dick

lmao literally a reddit take
remember a while ago some redditor telling me cars are a niche hobby
probably a tranny, because in the real world when you talk to men cars are definitely one of top subjects of conversation for easy small talk
nevermind all the racing games that are released yearly or nearly yearly (Forza,GT, NFS, fucking GTA) and still sell big numbers
car culture is still up and running

Because Legendary cars like the Skyline and Supra became jokes. One automatic and the other a BMW with a Toyota badge. The 350z hasn't changed since 2000's, it just got a facelift with Z.
The GR86 that was supposed to be the spiritual successor of the S15 and A86 is just a shitty Subaru and don't even have an OEM turbo.
All exotic cars are automatic and have electric motors.

Cars are just not exciting anymore. The isn't even any point in building an engine and try to make cars faster when you could just buy a Tesla that will easily beat all combustion engine cars with turbos, so car culture has become more about the appreciation of a begone era. It's boring.

1.png - 354x253, 99.59K

My zoomer brother and his friends all have fancy whips
Me and my boys have shitbox autism

shame SE will probably never make something like this again

what about blur and splitsecond i thought they were unique

enjoy early-mid game before the rubberbanding becomes absoluetly retarded like in any other nfs game

It’s still fun and they flourished in the normal console and controller market

Racing died when the PS4 didn't launch with a ridge racer game on day one.

pls grind for months in GT or better yet, buy all the fancy new cars directly, bro

still cant fucking believe that car sound tech not only stagnated like a decade ago, they even got worse and all the retarded racing g*mers keep caring and talking only about graphics, like, you stupid fucking nigger, if i wanted to WATCH cars i have google images and youtube

I blame car companies, they are anal about muh brand and it looks like muh brand

Realism kill the genre.
I picked a gran turismo for my son a few years back and it was just so boring.

I miss NFS so much...

Sound quality in games died in general because gamers still only use 2w rattling TV speakers or el cheapo headsets that sound like sticking your head in a washing machine drum. Good audio is never coming back because gamers do not care about it.

That said wreckfest has some top quality audio - especially for the crunching of metal and shattering of glass.

EA killed off WRC, no future releases planned

F1 is losing players every year and licence is supposedly running out this year

NFS is dead, no new releases planned at this time

Forza remains relevant, but is in the worst state it has ever been

GT7 is live service crap

numerous other franchies like Flatout, PGR, Burnout, Midnight Club got killed off years ago

Arcade racing bros, it was a good run

Bugbear holding the torch.

really looking forward to the sequel, looks like they improved engine sounds a lot and that was my only complaint about the first

Not even China can save it

Mario Kart bros... we fucking won!

It's not dead it's just cut down to a couple of options just like everything else. Used to be dozens of racing games coming out every year. Now you can pick from GT or Forza or the rotting corpse of NFS.

Solar crown was supposed to the hero we needed, but alas was not. Oh well just wait for Screamer next year.

anime aesthetics

its the netflix style

fucking hell
Anyways, how the new Tokyo Xtreme Racer? When will it leave early access?

Cars suck now. They're all the same boxy boring plastic mom-mobile crossovers. Every modern car looks and performs exactly the same and no one's making anything interesting or fun anymore because of emission and safety standards getting gayer by the year. The only really good performance cars are all designed solely for the track and you'll never even get near one.

I like the Fast and the Furious franchise. What game should I buy to replicate the familia experience?

what are car mods

It's a curious thing indeed but it does have a banging intro, should've been used for the original release

youtube.com/watch?v=CoP_GsUx3dQ&t=33s

Is it because the average gamer doesn't have a driver's license?

Ironically I used to enjoy racing games way more before I got a driver's license.

Mario Kart

NFS peaked with old Most Wanted

The most cringe dialogues with the shittiest songs ever.

kek

implying NFS didnt peak with MW and Carbon and both gameplay and popularity

go back to Hot Pursuit, grandpa

ALWAYS remember.

Each brand gave off a different gimmick while adding fatigue to their own series with their own faults

DLC fracturing their car selections or maps

SP was just ass or Multiplayer too limited

Car wrecks were amazing and cool but maybe aggro from NPC racer/cops too intrustive to just cruise

You couldn't just cruise etc

GTA comes out and it's everything these other series offered and more

Only sims and rally thrive until another free roam festival comes out that can offer brand cars

Any rallycarfag here?

japshit cars under gay ass body kits and stickers of gay shitstritracer culture. Imagine playing racing game with no ai and weird physics, underground era SUCKS.

t. born too slow

Forza and GT dominated the scene, that's what happened.

Based taste anon. For me, Racing Lagoon is in my top 5 in ps1 games, and ps1 has insane kinos, so that title holds weight.

Gran Turismo had a movie and Twisted Metal a series, why

We live in the bizarro timeline and few noticed.

the dirt series was good, ran out of steam with dirt rally 2 though

So did Need for Speed, but it was just a shittier F&F. I guess that's to be expected though.

HIGH SPEED DRIVING RPG

This sounds like pure ludokino, is it good?
Any pc ports made by dedicated fans?

Honestly, I think most people don't actually like racing they just want to have a virtual car or bike, customize it, drive around the map, and listen to music which already solved by GTA
And it seems like serious racing games are always racing sims maybe because it's an easier way to add depth to the game rather than experimenting with new stuff

Sony has a film studio and an entertainment division.

I love Flatout 2, FO Ultimate Carnage. However, Bugbear just released Wreckfest 2 in bare bones early access and I am not going to bother with it until it's actually releases. And it could possibly never happen if it gets stuck in EA like many other games have. It's kind of obvious they went for EA because they don't have the funds to keep working on the game unless they get influx of money. Sad

Solar crown was supposed to the hero we needed, but alas was not

I am so sad how this turned out. It was supposed to be a reboot of the series, but they just wanted to cash in on Live Service and failed miserably.
On a side note, Grid Legends (2022) and Dirt (2020) were probably the last games we will see from those franchises. I think EA is getting ready to axe Codemasters

because the companies publishing these games wanted more muh realism. NFS post MW was such a boring slop

NOOO YOU CANNOT TUNE YOUR CARS BECAUSE… BECAUSE YOU CANNOT OK

That was like the whole fucking appeal.

Any pc ports made by dedicated fans?

No.

just emulate

muh realistic skyboxes

muh realistic locations

muh realistic cars

muh sponsorship

no destruction / fun crashes

mtx jewry replaces customization

but driving around in GTAV is so fucking shit tho, the map is a fucking circle

Damn, at least the Tokyo Xtreme Racer was more lucky in that regard.
No you don't understand, I NEED to play games in 1080p and mods! Its not the same without that!

...like a race track?

Just look at modern customization in racing games. It barely exist. Then look at NFSU. A lot of things to customize. Even more, how many games you can name with night street racing, cool music and hot babes on start line? Very few people autistic enough to ride through fucking stadium laps and they'd rather see Nascar on a TV.

Anon Babble is a strict turn left only board.

Fucking nigger you got me there.

its over.png - 1253x978, 1.61M

If they were at least good I wouldn't mind

my main problem with NFS is that they refuse to do cool things anymore. they have the power to do cool things they couldnt before, like run over street race spectator at the start of race and see their friends screech out while everyone else go into a big cheer due to how cuhraaazy this is. their excuse is that they want to sell to kids, but they have no problem with putting in explicit rap music and police violence.
not only do you have shit opinions, but also you didnt put nfs rivals under burnout clones even though its made by burnout devs

Mario Kart World is only 23 days out from release, it will be the biggest selling racing game of all time

Calm down Ken - you are supposed to be dead.

explicit rap music

all the songs in MW and Carbon are censored tho

It is. The races are intense because you risk your car parts, there is full car customisation, and the racers from the plot have enough personality to make racing against them intersting.
The last part of the story is a bit wacky and dark, but find me a racing game other than racing lagoon that has an actual, coherent plot.
There is not an official port; the game didn't see a worldwide release, but some years ago, it got a fanmade translation. Just emulate it with RA or duckstation

Remember when everyone used to hate NFS getting yearly releases like Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty... Now we don't get anything at all

didn't genki get sued or some shit?
Doubt TXR is getting out of early access hell

it will be the biggest selling racing game of all time

Yeah no
And it's barely a racing game

I was talking about unbound

There was no need to turn NFS into "Assasin's Creed with cars", it was doing just fine before then, idk what EA was thinking. I really wish they gave the devs from Carbon more time, the games shot for me.

I tried playing one of the modern Forza games and just felt embarrassed by how desperate it was to keep me entertained.

mountain duel kino carried carbon pretty hard, i can't remember any game that did those well or at all

idk what youre talking, why would they get sued? car licenses?

1v1 duel in a canyon with japanese music in the background

I swear the devs really wanted to make a NFS in Japan, its basically free money and I idk why EA hasn't noticed yet.

Nvm i remembered seing this somewhere but it turns out it was another company with a similar name that got sued because of switch 2 accessories

what do you use that names the screenshot in that format?

Cars are just not exciting anymore

This pretty much. I don't drive and I don't want to drive because there are no cars I'd like to drive anymore.

Steam.

Modern cars are boring as fuck. Even "luxury" cars look and feel like absolute shitboxes now.

I mean I wasn't happy about yearly releases, but looking at what we (don't) have now, it was infinitely better. And yeah, Carbon slaps
Gaming just sucks now, not necessarily because there aren't any good games but development times are too long and budgets are too big. So if a game can't repay it's development cost of $100 million in the first week it's not worth making. There is no space for racing games any more. And those games were considered the pillar of the industry from the early days. It's no wonder the industry is fucked

The one thing this game did absolutely right was the sound design. It's top tier for engine sounds.

It looks breddy gud

Modern cars are boring.
At least interesting motorbikes are still made.

a launch title for a failed console is going to sell as much as a game that launched on two generations of consoles totaling 200 million units

Sure thing, buddy
Besides, you're in a wrong thread. This is a thread about racing games.

Xbox not getting labelled as ecoterrorists for promoting cars is already surprising in current year

What most people want is driving street legal cars very fast or offroad. The joy from Gran Turismo was driving civics and golfs, not the supercars.

last original burnout game ever released is a 2011 mobile game

Only arcade racers died. Sims and simcades are still doing pretty well.

your youtuber guardian told you to complain about grinding (racing)
it was never that bad. spending an hour to unlock one of the nicer cars in the game is fine, that makes collecting all the cars more enjoyable than just getting cars rained on you like forza horizon imo

The grind in GT7 is actually pretty abysmal if you're trying to collect all the cars. The classic cars take a long time to save up for. You basically have to grind those credits while afk using the daytona method if you want those cars in a reasonable amount of time.

still doing pretty well

For now
Sim racing players are a different breed. They just stick old games and mod them which I respect but that means no new games. Assetto Corsa was released in 2014 and iRacing was released in 2008. Releases have slowed down, the only upcoming sim racer I know of is Project Motor Racing

There's a certain novelty to driving very much not street legal cars through city streets as well. It's part of why the M3 GTR is so iconic.

Has anyone here tried this game? How is it?
I wonder why they did it, was GT7 not as popular as they wanted?

f2p.jpg - 1200x630, 149.94K

Racing sims are already at the start of the same trend that killed arena shooters. Namely people play the game game for so long they never entertain newer titles so nobody bothers catering to them as there simply isn't a market.

What happened to that racing MMO? It just failed to launch

Why would you play anything new when GT4 Spec II exists?

Apparently GT7 is the best selling in the franchise from what I heard. It's a fine game, but the career mode is not nearly as good as the ps1/ps2 era games. Not much worse or better than GT5/GT6 though. If you don't play online, the most frustrating thing will be saving up credits for some of the classic cars.

You mean test drive solar crown?

Anyways, how the new Tokyo Xtreme Racer?

Right now the game is way too easy and the AI is kinda terrible.
I'm bad at racing games but even i only lose a race when i fuck up massively or when the opponent has a huge straight line speed advantage.
Ai reliably shits itself in corners or drives into traffic.
That aside, its not as if i'm not having fun, but right now i can't reccomend dropping 30 bucks on it.

When will it leave early access?

According to the steam page it leaves ea this month, but the devs have been awfully quite lately so i'm not sure it will.

uhhhh you dropped your Mario Kart World on the new console??

Racing games are sort of uniquely boned because as a genre, they're especially vulnerable to autists sucking all the chance to have any sort of compelling gameplay or fun out of multiplayer, and races are more fun with other people.
It's one of the many victims of perverse incentives and google assraping real communities of human beings to death

farm.jpg - 1280x720, 104.26K

Exactly. Sim racing games are passion projects that can't succeed in AAA space nowadays. Arcades can still succeed but they won't as long as publishers are chasing unsustainable growth.

Frankly overrated. It still needs a lot of work and people are dismissing a lot of legitimate problems like poor AI and optimization issues as "jap game jank."

It launched and I wish it didn't. It looked so good until they showed gameplay with multiple people playing it on stage and it became known it was a live service slop
These idiots need to realize mutliplayer racing is not fun and go back to making fun singleplayer arcade racers

Screenshot_2.png - 979x179, 37.67K

wait why do i recognize this woman? who is she?

I like the game, but I think the style of game TXR is won't appeal to racing fans. There's not really any racing, it's just dump power as fast as you can to get ahead and win in 20 seconds

MMO

live service slop

Anon... they are the same thing but with different names, what did you honestly expect? Even NFS World has microtransactions. As long as the game is fun I don't care.

I was expecting a singleplayer game with a multiplayer component that I can ignore, not online only slop
Keep in mind they weren't marketing it as an MMO when it was first shown. The first trailer only had some CGI and a release date that was later pushed 2 years back. Maybe they decided to make it online only mid development.

youtube.com/watch?v=z4mrLWAXOZg

Games for car nerds shunted cool shit out of the market.

That's cool, it would be a shame if Gran Turismo died.

Nah he was bang on. And it made more sense when young people were easily able to afford new cars, even enough to shape whole markets.

The issue with racing games is normies will not play a racing game without real cars, and car licensing is absurdly expensive, leaving the space for indies to experiment limited. I dunno what the Tokyo xtreme devs did to get the handful of licenses they have but it must've involved some mean dick sucking.

Driving sims are too aftaid to properly challenge the player without resorting to bullshit difficultly like 100 laps

I'd love to see you doing all gold licenses on Gran Turismo 7, or atleast the Nurburgring circuit experience. Unless you think Gran Turismo 7 is some outlier in this case

muh DEI

THIS THIS THIS
Can't wait to finally move to a house and build a rig for my 15 year old G27. I heard you can actually mod the h-shifter in

mass multiplayer online

I expected single player

Mario Kart niggers are the trannies of racing games, they try their best to look and feel like real racing games but everyone knows that its just a party game under all that make up.

Cope :)

desu if I want to play the best party racing game ever made I bust out my playstation.

I don't think anyone gives a shit about car licenses. The prior success of burnout, wipeout and the current success of mario kart and GTA tells me success lies with the structure of the game, not car autists wanting the official badge on their 3d model.

This, newer NFS is god awful which is a shame because I love the level of customization the series offered
I kinda wish Forza would make a NFS type game, instead of making the games car gachas/collectors just have a smaller amount with deep customization

wait, is that...

Rubberbanding itself isn't the issue
its a necessary evil to stop races against cpus from turning into time trials
The real issue is that every started doing burnout style rubberbanding,
WHICH WAS THE PART NOBODY FUCKING LIKED ABOUT BURNOUT.

love me racism

decide to upgrade to an oled screen one day

perfect chance to play the classics

lmao oleds are all about black levels, lets see how some night races look

mfw

Seeing corners and (where applicable) traffic just come at you out of the pitch black darkness certainly keeps the pulse up during races.

I want twisted metals and car combat games back, man.

I've interacted with people in this very board who refused to play forza because it didn't have a particular variant of a subaru

Which is odd as subaru - notably in the US - has strong connection to the LGBTQ community. Subaru even used this in some of their marketing at one point.

I don't know who she is. It's just an image I saved from here. I presume it's some e-girl because of how this guy sperged out about it.

Why so mad tho?

140.gif - 498x373, 639.49K

trannies out of nowhere

Obsessed

Not really. It's a comfy Shuto Expressway simulator. Going around racing randos is a good time, and your knowledge of the roads and carefully choosing where and when to have your battles is just as vital as having a machine that's up to the task.

People on Anon Babble are fucking retarded. There are still arcade racing games out there, there's just no way to compete with sims on console and PC so they just make them for phones now. Asphalt is one the most played phone games ever and it's just a burnout/hot pursuit clone.

Zoomers and normalfags hated arcade games so boring shitty unfun simturds took over and then died rightfully

Is Moza R3 worth it?

wrc is not an arcade game
fucking shithead

simniggers with smelly simcage setups

erm ackshually real life professional drivers are wrong, the tyre model is fine, they are just shitters who are mad they can't drive

Drive daily irl

go home and drive on a computer

retarded genre, only 10yo kids like racing games

retarded opinion.

The need for speed movie is still in HD uploaded into YOUTUBE, even after all this time its still up there

GT4 Spec II

that game is not a sim

I am learning that racism is creating an entire subgenre of music. Not being someone who normally listens to this sort of music it is educational at the very least.

The newer NFS games would be fine if the driving didn't feel like total ass.
It just feel so slow and underpowered, especially while turning.

Playing carbon and 2015 makes me feel like 2015 doesn't feel fast at all

Weird, why is every new meme music genre related to car culture, also from generations of people who don't even like cars.
First it was Eurobeat then outrun then phonk and now rally house?

quit making this thread everyday
cars and car games are for enthusiasts only
if you dont have a wheel go home
controller arcade games are gone for a reason

The three Outs died, and the genre died with it.

Wipeout

Flatout

Burnout

I am not going to spend upwards of 10000 dollars for a simcade set up. fuck that shit. arcade vidya all the way. love me hot pursuit love me burnout paradise love me midnight club simple as

I just want a grid game that maintains the career progression of race driver. They had it so good and surely could expand upon it but they just turned it into weird story narratives.

The career progression isn't the only thing that was lost with subsequent games

1) Should have never touched the handling, the first game was perfect.

2) Music got worse with every game, 1 was again the peak.

3) Pit banter and dynamic dialogue was crazy good, again, in 1.

What? I bought a wheel, pedal and shifter for like 300 bongs and now have a full setup. If you have a job it's impulse buy terriroty

Amouranth before her surgeries or something?

Thank goodness OutRun still lives on!

>Wipeout

this franchise had low sales

>Burnout

outsold by need for speed and midnight club

The comfiest way to play racing games is laying in bed with a crappy laptop on your thighs.

Should have never touched the handling

grid deserved to die for having that garbage handling and trash physics

Nobody is asking for another NFS.

Everybody is asking for another Burnout.

I played FlatOut and it was actually fun. Took me back to the old days. Could have used a bigger budget but if you want more, go buy the game and support them.

Faggot retard, it was the best simcade experience on the market.

No it’s because normies like real life cars but unfortunately to put real life cars into your game you need real life licenses from each auto manufacturer otherwise you’ll get sued. Some car brands don’t allow their cars to be in “street racing” anymore. Most of them want a lot more money than the old days to be licensed to be used in your game. Some have exclusivity deals to only appear in one publisher’s games for a certain duration. Also unlike other games where technology increases the car manufacturers don’t allow realistic crash physics so your racing game will need to be arcadey where your cars bounce off the wall. Most of the time now it’s Forza and Gran Turismo, who are owned by Microsoft and Sony respectively, pumping money like mad to get the newest cars and nobody else can do that anymore it’s too much of an investment. There were really good devs back in the day too like the Driveclub devs who got screwed over, it’s believed Sony only wanted one big racing game on their system and that’s Gran Turismo otherwise it eats into its sales. Gran Turismo and Forza both have a lot of online components now, to the point where they play like mmos loosely speaking eapecially with Forza and Gamepass subscription. Racing isn’t a dead genre like other game genres there’s only 2 big winners who don’t step on each other’s toes.

Who is the greatest racing team in all of vidya and why is it Feisar?

Everybody is asking for another Burnout.

i dont think burnout paradise remastered had that many sales
besides burnout 3, burnout dominator, burnout revenge and burnout legends were too similar

Everything is outsold by Fortnite, nobody gives a shit about this stupid talking point.

empty insults
project gotham racing 4 was better
forza motorsport 4 was better as well
codemasters deserves to be killed by ea

so you all excited about the crew unlimited?

is it going to be online only?

Ubislop

excited

Didn't even know it existed and somehow care even less after learning of its existence.

the crew unlimited is a restoration project for the crew 1, the game that got shut down by ubisoft. some modders are working on a server emulator so you can play offline/play p2p. shit's coming soon supposedly.

ea choose need for speed for a reason
ridge racer 6 was a dissapointment for namco

I don't own the crew because lmao giving money to ubisoft for online only and last I checked no cracked version existed so can't say it is on my radar.

Virtua Racing gets a masterful port

On Switch

With no analog triggers

Only analog option is using the right stick as the gas pedal

INSANE

The entire genre never recovered from Big Rigs.

When someone says racing games are dead they aren't saying racing games don't sell as much as Minecraft, they are saying they are shit.

haven't all the driving games collapsed into a handful of corporate AAA pay to win titles? same thing that happened to sports games, the kind of people that are into them have just disappeared from internet talk because they don't play anything else or want to talk about anything else

they are shit.

lemans ultimate and ride 5 are new releases and they are decent games and games like automobilista 2 is still getting new updates and new content

If there was a racing sim that legitimately competed with Gran Turismo on PC, it'd sell infinite copies.

Arcade racing was killed by GTA.

it's a rodent from the north region of asia

iracing is better than gran turismo
