The vast majority of VODs don't end up with highlight reels after the fact.
Twitch's built-in clip function is unreliable, since it's entirely viewer-driven.
It's a system designed to maximize engagement with nothing in return.
Some streamers joke about having pre-recorded scripts because they recycle topics.
Other streamers plan too much and end up burning themselves out.
It's ambiguous whether or not a game is being shilled to you at times. Not everyone is transparent.
Add to that, chat interactions always feel fake, like the streamer has to patronize them constantly.
By far though, the worst thing about Twitch is the homogenization of it all. Everyone has the same layout, same sense of humor, same emote templates, same game choices. You have to put in effort to actually find variety.

My expectations aren't very high. I have friends who stream to 5-10 people. I would consider numbers like that a success for me. I mostly got into streaming because I wanted to get better at speaking/conversations. I don't know for sure how much streaming has actually helped though.

You really riled up the 90 iqs with these posts. It's like you can physically see them starting to realize that their dumb e-celeb is completely unnoteworthy but then their lizard brain kicks in and forces them to deem a slight against their favored talking screen head as a slight against them personally.

The issue in my experience is that clips are only useful if you click on a stream say, an hour late, and want to catch up on any funny moments. Because once it's over, you just have to sift through a bunch of random stuff, none of which is timestamped until you click on it.

There's a vtuber girl I used to follow because she had a great personality. I've watched a lot of vtubers and so many of them are personality vacuums that don't really know how to engage their viewers. This was back when she didn't have that many viewers and I'd lurk in her streams and occasionally say something just to keep her chat going. Eventually she found a friend group of other vtubers and grew her channel from their mutual friends/viewers. It kinda killed any interest I had in watching her knowing her friends would always be in chat.

A lot of streamers do what they can to customize their stream experience. They commission custom overlays and such, some of them paying $100-500 for a package, just so they stand out a little more than the next streamer. They have to take things in their own hands and their own money because Twitch doesn't offer any way for them to customize their page or whatever.

also, because I used the site less and less because of the ads, I found a bunch of streamers on youtube to watch instead. and some of the streamers I followed on twitch multistream on youtube. I found youtube streams to be better overall besides maybe the chat

He didn't do anything different when making videos, yet all his videos were recommended to EVERYONE on youtube even if you didn't watch anything WoW related or gaming related.
Same with piratesoftware now, outside of the "Horse made more money than starcraft video" he was a complete nobody for decades as well, then all of a sudden his videos were recommended to EVERYONE and he blew up like crazy. On twitch his "gifted sub" ratio is also waaaay off compared to every other streamer which highly implies there's a single organization behind his unusual sub numbers.
