There are Tier 1 swears (damn, ass, hell) and some comedically censored Tier 2 swearing.
The game is mostly comedic but there are some pretty intense and uncomfortable moments. The game starts with the main character being bullied, being called a "freak," shoved against a locker and being threatened with "having their face bit off," and the bully backing off by saying it would be a shame to make their mother "bury her child."
There is more disturbing optional content that the player would have to play into, unlikely for a kid to find on their own but they'd definitely hear about it looking online. It also seems likely that future chapters will be moving into a more serious plotline with the main characters dealing with the loss/disappearance of a family member.
Deltarune is basically Undertale for teens, with a more cynical tone, drama, and "real" problems, compared to Undertale which still had some scary and serious stuff but was mostly grounded in fantasy. Kids should play Undertale first (anyone who plays Deltarune should), it would ease them into it.

I don't think it'll really happen, but I do think it has a lot of potential, and just because it makes me hard. It'll help explain why Kris seems so despondant and distant, yet still loves their brother since such victims can still see their abusers in a positive light. The twisted bond would deepen the game's theme on relationships and show how some relationships are dysfunctional despite, or maybe because of both parties loving each other. It would parallel nicely with the Snowgrave route, where Kris/SOUL is acting out the next step of the cycle, especially since Kris and Noelle parallels a traditional romantic relationship in that route. Asriel constantly making confessions despite his religion not really practing confessions at all would make a lot more sense. It would explain Kris and Ralsei's odd relationship and all the weird things you can make Kris do to Ralsei gets shown under a different light.
