I was born in 97, I played it a lot when I was a really young kid, especially when I was at my grandma's. I remember doing the racing course and trying to force my way into the tunnels that temporarily opened up to let some big fire truck or something through.
It was really fun for 4-6 year olds which is what I was around the time I was playing it. If you can't understand why a simple game from the late 90s was fun for little kids you're not even jaded, just retarded.

Name another game in the late 90s that let you just cruise around as a Lego dude and have a Lego life.

Fascinating at the time. Very quirky game with lots of soul. Perfect for children.

Mediocre. This one had stupidly long loading times and a good amount of bugs. The gameplay was decent, but in a licensed movie game kind of way.

There are lots of kart racers, but this one was one of the best around. Excellent tracks, but the warps and OP shortcuts make it too easy as an adult.

Rock Raiders

This came during the RTS boom but the mining focus made it feel very unique. Probably my favorite Lego game. The Manic Miners reboot is wonderful.

Super underrated. This was a solid puzzle game.

I guess it's one of the better chess games, but that's not saying much. Decent, but nothing exciting.

5 year old me thought it was an amazing game and that's all that matters. It's not a game for 27 year old me to do anything but reminisce about. Style is far more important than substance to non-educational games for kids. Have you ever tried to watch a kid's TV show? Of course it seems like shit, you're an adult.

Battles was fucking amazing as a kid but I think I'd rather have my balls flogged than play a RTS on the DS as an adult. I think it only appealed to me because I had never even seen a RTS before, a genre I'd go on to really enjoy.

2D city builder with focus on trains. I remember this game tried to be multiple things at once, making it not great but has a particular atmosphere. I remember the intro animation so vividly.

basic gameplay but I loved the amount of teams and arenas. It made the game feeling like a big world.

As bad as the first one. This one was themed around the castles and knights sets

I only played a few. Lego Island 1 which I loved a lot. I was really young though. This Bionicle flash game. And some shitty gameboy alpha team game. Forget two were amazing at the time. Alpha team not so much. I never touched a modern lego game.

not to get too far off-topic but you just reminded me about Stunt Track Driver which was easily the best racing game I played until MK Wii
I actually really recommend Hot Wheels Unleashed that just came out a few years ago (just don't buy any of the DLC slop)
it's really good but didn't get a lot of attention because I'm not really sure who the intended audience is; kids don't play much with hot wheels anymore and not too many adults are interested in a hot wheels game
