javelins, slings, spears
Why are these weapons so underused in video games?

Why are these weapons so underused in video games?
Game would be too easy or hard, but then i guess im to used to dying to them in multiplayer and spear units failing me in mount and blade.
javelins, spears
They aren't underused
slings
Throwing rocks is for primitive humanimals
Not as flashy or regal as a sword
i have never played a game with javelins that didnt make them overpowered
They're too manly for modern gamers.
slings are like manual Gauss guns which is pretty cool
Throwing rocks is for primitive humanimals
Wrong
loses to swords/axes 1v1 which is how most games will depict it since the only good way to show of it's actual advantage is:
1. single player game where you're a low-tier spear grunt surrounded by NPCs in a spearwall. only thing you can do is march forward or retreat when the NPC general tells you to. Only combat you can do is stab mindlessly once you reach the enemy lines, not like you can do combos and rollslop in the middle of the cinch.
2. multiplayer game that's just like number 1 but you're wrangling other players to join your spearwall
ß
there you go. copy it to some textfile or something
Ancient greek art is so fucking gay
Not only the guy on the right is gay but for some reason the artist decided to also show the spear guy's dick too despite him wearing armor
Fucking fag
Awkward to carry around and use in limited spaces. Like in an RPG your char carries his sword with him easily but where does he put the spear? Strapped to the back? Looks like shit and will clip everywhere.
You're not playing the right games
sees penis
immediately thinks of homosex
You got something to get off your chest, anon?
fanfic armor
he uses it as a walking stick
javelins, slings, spears
*enters the thread*
AYO MAYNE YOU WERE SAYIN'?
NIGGA IMMA BEAT THE BRAKES OFF YO ASS
I can’t think of anything better than spearing a man to death with your stiff cock out in the sun simmering in the hot breeze
just play Apotheon
This is why no one likes germans
Speaking of spears and javelins, is there even one (1) videogame with atlatl?
*jobs to some mud and couple of bolts in Agincourt*
WAT NOU?
I don't believe in the Rechtschreibreform
OSRS added one last year
gets knocked to the ground
takes a dagger to the eye
I mean, this exists.
Even modern day soldiers and tanks job to mud. Can't beat the mud.
What are some games with bolas and other similar thrown immobilisation weapons? I only know of Underrail and Ark survival evolved
World of Warcraft
alt 0223
That means he only has one free hand
the equivalent of city guards
soldiers
And honestly i'm being generous even comparing them to city guards
Because they are lowly soldier peasant weapons comapred to the noble and honorable Sword
RDR online
I shall now ask the name of this game and we shall spread it across Anon Babble as kino.
Why is mountainblade the only game that does lances right? I always thought horses were lame but man is giving some fucking grounded peasant 2 meters of girthy wood and steel satisfying.
Apotheon
because the average kid doesn't find this kind of weapons cool
that average kid is dead due to those weapons' superior range
suck my ballß
DID SOMEBODY FUCKING SAY SLING
BECAUSE I AM FUCKING OBSESSED WITH THE SLING
GET SOME PARACORD AND SOME STRAPS AND MAKE A SLING.
THIS SHIT IS CASH.
THROWIN FUCKIN.... ROCKS
TENNIS BALLS
FOOTBALLS
ASH TRAYS
PUT IT IN THE POUCH AND SLING IT!!!
I would blame it on a lack of creativity & ignorance, or greed.
They are and you wrote 0 counterargument : just check all the swordsman protagonists vs spear users in fiction.
Good explanation. Anons always whine about muh underrepresented long stick being the best because it has long reach and low cost, but they never consider how to make said stick work in an actual videogame.
They work in strategies because they by design make you control a bunch of dudes at once, but they simply don't work in other genres.
calm your tail doggy.
go through all that trouble to make one
throw the rock/ball the same distance as anyone without a sling would
Congratulations.
I never thought i would find a greater time wasting activity outside playing videogames
spears
losing to swords 1v1
lol
Depends on the context
No armour? Sword loses 9/10
Armour? Sword wins purely because it's a more effective bludgeon
The only Weapon that does both is the Lucerne
Spears aren't cool.
They are cheap, mass produced and take no skill, strength or dexterity to use at all.
They were the weapon of the common disposable peasant cannon fodder while the elite warriors always had swords, axes and sometimes blunt weapons like maces.
no one tell him about alexander
Most games can't even make realistic looking weapons, so it's not surprising.
Slings are rare in general, more of an ancient weapon, but Total War games have them, spear and javelins are more common, I especially like javelins in Bannerlord, as for spears you kind of need mods there to make them feel better.

Rome: Total War
Age of Empires II HD: The Forgotten
Far Cry Primal
A Plague Tale: Innocence
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
Age of Mythology
Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
Mount & Blade: Warband, Viking Conquest DLC
Ancient Wars Sparta
That's basically the comprehensive list. Really only in Plague Tale and Far Cry do you actually use the sling.
My personal favorite game is Secret of Mana which has both a javelin and a spear in it so there's some points there. I see more spears than javelins. Ranged weapons fall into bows, crossbows, and guns nowadays
Javelins are basically the strongest weapons in the game in like half the Fire Emblems.
Age of Decadence has them, I think.
Well, I believe they will be adding them to Bannerlord in the new big update or ship combat dlc, so one more to your list.
Northern Journey has a nice sling weapon
It also has big spiders...
so one more to your list.
If only I were any good at RTS games...
me just throw rock, not manage army
slaughtering hordes of giant spiders and mosquitoes is like a dream come true
survival crafting game begins with throwing rocks and sticks
within four hours of gameplay you've invented a gun by gluing a hunk of iron ore with a piece of tree bark and poop
Throwing rocks is for primitive humanimals
Last thing an 8ft+ copper age warrior would say
If you want things not too easy then maybe try out Vintage Story, it's like But you will spending much more time early game just doing wood, stone and then maybe some bronze tools, iron is harder to get.
Most people are historylets.
Most people think knights in shining armour existed from 500-1700 and then just poof line warfare with muskets. They literally think is contemporary with vikings for example.
People don't know slings were a a common weapon in the middle ages.
it's the only way to have mass appeal, a more realistic approach like in Vintage Story is autistic and niche
They are cheap, mass produced
yes
and take no skill, strength or dexterity to use at all.
incorrect to say they take no skill, just that your ten years of swordsmanship classes won't mean shit when that peasant stabs you from eight feet away
SWERVE NOVLEMAN
that's not fair, that's magic druid mud
It is what it is, and they will fight, shit, piss and screech at you if you want a fantasy game but one that uses historical aesthetics instead of some warcraft bullshit AND is not a kitchen sink of different periods either. Seen that too often on Anon Babble.
agincourt is famous because it's one of the rare cases it ever worked out against them. It's like bragging about the one time you didn't shit your pants. It's just highlighting all the other cases.
Slingers were relevant in organized warfare until the late middle-ages.
