What FFXIV does can be barely called 'allusions'. Ifrit showing up is an allusion, Crystals are an allusion. XIV rehashes and steals. It will put entire characters and storylines from other games into it. No mainline FF had ever done that before. Even if you think that's an artistic choice, there's also a matter that somewhere around 40-50% of all non-boss (and some bosses too) are direct model rips from other games. It is without the doubt the least original FF and that's not even considering its 'safe' and constantly simplified game design.

FF4 sort-of implies it's a sequel to FF2 a bunch of times but never specifically makes the connection, and pretty much every named Dragoon character from FF4 onwards is an homage to Kain, through his surname Highwind or through costume and personality

Monster Hunter reusing Monster Hunter assets is not the same because it's all one world. FF14 strip-mining FF11, FF12, and FF13 to the level it does was basically unheard of within the series and is actually done to the level which puts other game series to shame. Putting that aside, it's actually a problem for the series because it ruins the individual identity of previous games. If a 14 player boots up 11 (since it got it the worse) to play through the story, it is almost impossible to find a monster you literally haven't seen before. I don't mean the concept of the monster or even a similar design, but that literal monster.

In theory (and maybe for some jap boomers), but it is mostly played by people who have only played 2 or 3 previous FFs, if that, and are actually now less likely to play older games because they are too buys doing nothing in Limsa all day.
Your average 14 player knows less about FF than someone who only occasionally play JRPGs. The recreations of older FFs to create 'content' is all they know of older FFs and all they will ever know. Rather than reminding people of the other games, it's actually obscuring their existence.
The most blatant example of this is the most recent Magic the Gathering set. 14 is eating up all the cards it can with concepts that originated (and often done better) in the other games. Almost every aspect of the job system has been represented solely through 14. One of the few notable characters of FF1 - Matoya - is a 14 card. Krile, who only might get a card, has a 14 card first. Minor 14 NPCs are getting cards, but WotC already confirmed they have cut out a lot of party members from other games or have them share cards. Doesn't really get more clear than that.
To be fair, my friend I play with decided on a whim for us to join a PF Savage and added us with no prep or anything with me playing healer.

Healer is way too important in this game, really dumb making you play it on your first attempts. A good healer can carry ultimates while a subpar one can make it impossible for people who farm fights to clear.

Missed healing/mit in savage is still a wipe. Pretty sure only very specific fights have goofy shit where people manage to go in with no tanks or healers, and even then it probably requires everyone to do everything perfectly without mistake
