I find Doom the Dark Ages cool and ask what really is wrong with the game itself, but I never get an answer besides people saying it's gay or Reddit, or it plays like shit when it's people just standing and shooting, not even moving while shooting just standing. I just want to know what this says about me, because I think this game is cool and plan to get it for my new PC that's coming soon.

Almost certainly not. But this game feels like a B team spinoff. I have a feeling the next main iD game will be Quake 5 and doing something equally different.
Doom Eternal was mostly fine except for the marauder, feels like an enemy that belongs in a different game as it makes the game slam to a screeching halt because they block everything until you parry them. though once i got better weapons i just killed them with splash damage.
That garbage totally ruined that game. Alongside the incomprehensible story, awful platforming, and overall terrible gameplay loop built around needing to constantly glorykill or chainsaw enemies for supplies every two seconds. Dark Ages got rid of all that cancer and it's genuinely based for it.

i didn't buy the previous games i just played it via gamepass since i pay for that subscription specifically so my son has a selection of games to play, he just has standard not ultimate when i asked him what he wanted, since most of the day 1 releases tend to be rated M anyway or EA/Ubisoft crap.
ill probably give dark ages a try when it hits standard gamepass since when you can just play it as a consequence of something your paying for regardless it doesn't feel too bad if your not super into it.
I don't understand how I've played and greatly enjoyed 2016 three times yet I struggled to get through one playthrough of eternal and have quickly stopped out of boredom in all subsequent attempts. they don't seem that different. it's just simply not near as fun to me. i even just reinstalled it to give it another shot because i feel like i should like it.
Eternal's gunplay feels like ass, the level design is gone replaced by retarded platforming segments and dull arenas like a Painkiller/Serious Sam clone, and the graphics are way worse with a cartoony art style. They really aren't comparable, 2016 is a great FPS and Eternal is cringe.

What more do you need explained? It's fucking lame. The art design is uninspired. The humor sucks. The world building and storytelling are shit, and there's a ton of it so you can't even ignore it. The gameplay is a box of gimmicks and toys.
There is also a deeper element of disappointment in how both Eternal and Dark Ages miss what was tonally captivating about Doom 2016. Both the newer nu Doom games are simply too happy. You're a retarded autistic version of master chief wandering around an underbaked scifi splat for D&D 5E and getting jerked off at every opportunity about how cool you are for killing cartoon monsters and collecting fucking funko pops. It's an R rated super hero movie.
Doom 2016 reveled in a much darker, more primal headspace about killing people you hate for the the simple reason that they fucking deserve it. It's a spree killer simulator wearing the trappings of a scifi action romp. What little lore it bothers to present only serves to remind the player that yes, the people you are killing understand what you are doing and are afraid. The thesis statement is four words long: You Will Be Worse. This raw hostility, this cruelty, is entirely absent in Eternal and Dark Ages. And that's lame!

It becomes more and more obvious that Doom 2016 was just a happy accident. They used doom1 as a template, lifted action elements from doom2, horror elements from doom3, borrowed fangame elements, hired a popular game composer who's gimmick was remixes and it all just happened to stick to the wall.

Every nuDoom goes for a completely different gameplay style. On one hand, that's really respectable and has given each game an identity worth returning to. On the other hand, each style has issues that don't get ironed out in the next because it starts from Square One. I'm pretty early in DA so far but I think I'll enjoy its overall combat better than 2016 (outside of Arcade Mode at least) and it seems like it'll lack Eternal's highs and lows for the sake of consistency (outside of mech/dragon stuff evidently). Eternal's got some real mechanical bloat and mediocre bosses compared to 2016 but it had a great format.
take away the novelty of 3d acceleration and it really isn't a very good game

The fact that the marketing for a fucking Doom game encourages you to stand still during combat was enough for me to write it off
and dragon chapters are usually interspersed with ground combat, whereas atlan chapters are usually all mech with the exception of the last one since that has a boss fight on foot after the mech segment

It's full of problems alongside feeling too grandiose. pacing issues combined with lazy level design, arbitrary conditions to kill specific demons (especially dlc demons and the faggot marauder), and far too much content makes it beyond inferior to 2016. they should've just kept it self-contained, short and sweet is the way to go for DOOM.

You do realize you can strawman every point on planet earth? Hugo Martin describes the slayer as a tank ad nauseum and yet, you can’t tank your way through the game. You can’t stand there, parry, dodge, attack, retreat, and repeat because there are several heavy demons which will eat your lunch. The game is just badly designed and the slogan is the icing on the cake.
