This may work out for Nintendo since they are stubborn and will discontinue games before dropping the price, but for everyone else I would expect there will just be more people waiting to buy games on sale. Plus, once you skip the initial fomo period to wait on a sale, there isn't much difference between waiting a few months for a 15% sale and a year or so for the 50-30% sale. All of this isn't even taking into consideration that many people are investing their time into free to play games that are likely far more profitable than $80 games will be and they really don't need new games.

Pretty much. I have a Switch to play Switch games, and even though it’s hacked, I actually buy games when I think they’re worth it. Anyone who routinely emulates knows that even older consoles like the N64 have hiccups that you’ll notice if you’re familiar with the original hardware. The Deck (and emulation as a whole) have no real impact on Nintendo.

Mileage will vary, but even as someone who has been very critical of the Switch, I had a lot of fun with those three. Just solid, single-player experiences that don’t overstay their welcome. The biggest issue I have with pricing (ignoring economy issues or annoying company practices / schemes) is that the big companies have shot themselves in the foot by over inflating the cost of production, and the worst part is that the increased production cost has not resulted in a better product. So we’re asked to pay more for something that is often only “as good” as previous games, at best. It’s a joke.

Not sure what consoles have to do with the game pricing argument but,
it's not regulations that make it impossible for a new manufacturer to compete on the market with a new console, even big companies like Valve that could afford to deal with the bureaucracy would fail to launch a console - because there is no actual demand for a new console:
- people don't want to pay $200-$500 for a console that will gatekeep exclusives
- if it doesn't get exclusives then no one would pay for it
- if no one pays for it then no one would dev for it
- if people dev exclusive games for it then they will struggle with sales until hardware sales catchup, which is a big uncertainty
- it will have no brand recognition

The only way a new console would succeed is if a company also supported it with frequent high quality first party exclusive for years with very little guarantee on immediate returns. But even making these appealing games would require higher end, or even exotic hardware (which will be more expensive per performance because they won't be produced at the same scale as the other vendors), to justify not just making these games on existing consoles in the first place. You literally can't justify a new gaming console in the current era where consoles are just walled garden PCs (or phones in the case of the switch, but even todays smartphones are walled-gardens compared to PCs).
You could do it 20-30 years ago because consoles were way ahead of PCs on technological and architecture advancements, but it hasn't been true since the PS4/XBone.
The home console market is saturated with no hope of insertion, and the mobile gaming was swallowed whole by smartphones. The switch success came from adapting to both markets, but this gives little justification/room for the switch 2, which should have just been called switch pro and produced in lower volumes.
