If you look at it from making a ROMhack as part of the storytelling? Yeah, it's not bad. Most creepypastas just spew words about muh realistic blood eyes, but BEN actually put effort into itself.
The story and ARG behind it are...kind of a mess, but that's because Jadusable got distracted with finishing up college and just giving less of a shit with people trying to hijack his ARG and spout constant fan theories across the entire internet. King Kong was the perfect way to end it. The sheer rage it caused devastated creepypasta communities for a few years afterwards, although today you only see praise for it because lmao funny monke.

I think so, I find the videos spooky even after all these years. Still my personal favorite creepypasta to this day...

Something most people are missing here is that even back then, creepypastas weren’t getting made about current games. They were all about the author revisiting a game from their childhood and their copy turning out to be haunted, for that “lost innocence / ruined childhood” feel. NES Godzilla was as old when the creepypasta was made as Morrowind is now. That being said, less detailed graphics and more open ended “figure it out yourself” game design did leave more room for mystery than the hyperrealistic handholding theme parks we have right now.

I’ll add, Anon Babble loves to cry about le zoomers peepeepoopoomers being into it but the liminal spaces bullshit with Mario 64 and Source Engine maps is the modern videogame creepypasta. Adults going back to games from their childhood and finding something unsettling in them (emptiness befitting of a ghost town, specially for the once-populated Source maps)

You’d be playing the Blame Game if you were looking for a “someone”. I think it just became a game of one-upping current works. Channel 58 was so high quality that you needed to match at least 50% of its production value to stand out. Then some guy brought in practical effects and costumes and stuff just started getting more and more complex. Some series were just puzzle games, ARG split across multiple media formats. Others were “low quality”, a teen with an editing software or really good horror paintings and edgy humor.The controversies didn’t help. When you hear that one of the Analog/Creepypasta giants is an abuser or a pedo it kinda takes the wind out of your sails even more. Then you had the parodies, those were my favourite: From Hotdog Archives to Summon House, but some people took them for granted, just judged them as the real thing…
I like how far we’ve come in complexity, compared to the original Creepypastas being just spooky stories with a single thumbnail picture. But i feel we lost something, its less about just telling a scary story and more about being the best scary story, the immortalised one. Also everyone is jaded now. How many of you watched or read a AnalogH/CreepyP last week? Do you have an ARG you plan to decode this weekend? Or are we just so bitter and tired and bored that we cannot sit down to have fun with our hobbies? Maybe nothing is actually wrong with them
