Scotland specifically sucks, its hard to imagine, but for all the size of scotland, 90% of it is barrren wastes, its like with Australia, the towns etc are on the shore, and everything in the middle is basically barren of life. The romans didnt conquer it because they saw there was nothing to take, it was a waste of resources to even hold it because it would mean having to check in on it and maintain it.
