The best thing about being an old school gamer is that every one of those frames over 60 is irrelevant to me. 60 frames per second is all I need so I can buy purely on price-per-frame as long as that threshold is met.

Usually nvidia and amd would give their gpus to trusted and independent reviewers, being confident their product would be better and get good reviews before launch so people would buy them.
If the only reviewers who get the cards are the ones willing to parrot whatever nvidia tells them to, this is basically a form of undisclosed ad that people would put more trust into because they would think it's from an independent reviewer. And it's also illegal in most places because it hurts consumers and only profits companies.
