It makes sense to build off an existing ruleset and engine (Rogue Trader game mechanics) while just adding new classes//Origins instead of completely reinventing the wheel with a Warhammer Fantasy CRPG.
A Fantasy game would basically be RT with massively nerfed gunplay, which gimps the existing classes. Or they go all in in reprogramming guns to be bows//crossbows and have a few rare muskets and handcannons.
They could do it, but I think they want to reuse the existing assets they have before investing in the (lets be real) less known (though original) IP.

I hope this new game keeps DH's extremely deadly gameplay intact. So many campaigns cut short by hilarious bad luck. One time we party killed on a stakeout, we were observing a suspected heretic gathering in an old urban park and our fucking idiot psyker tried to read some guys mind, completely botched his fucking rolls, landed on the Perils of the Warp that has him slurped into the warp and a fucking chaos spawn crawls out. I wouldn't look into it this much. But Darktide development was blatantly a mess and game had to be drastically reworked at least once, with game being in shit state for ages. And no matter what they did, playerbase still shat on them and complained, with many areas of the game still being badly designed and fucked. Nobody likes to work on something, especially for so long, and then get shat on for it, even if rightfully. I imagine everyone is tired of it in studio and simply doesn't like to work on it.
On other hand VT2 since Drachenfels is beloved and even previously game was fundamentally good, but suffered from meager stuff like bugs, stability and balance. They long for good ol times

I can't agree with you. Most "Warhammer anything" is some sort of a strategy/tactics games from vidya to tabletop and has been for ages. It's only a recent development when it finally got something else in vidya in Space Marine 2, Darktide, Necrumnda (fps, because there is turn based tactics game as well) and Boltgun.

But yeah, 40k edge and seriousness is surely less appealing than BG3 tone. Now that I think of it, in Rogue Trader other than this single quest with Jae where you have to wait in a queue, I can't recall anything memey. Usually games like Deus Ex or Prey (2016) are referred to as Immersive Sims because you can solve problems in unintended ways. Stack crates to get around objectives or walls, use weird effects to turn Gale's corpse into a crated bomb, use physics interactions to defeat bosses etc. BG3 is sometimes referred to as that because it shares a lot of unintended problem solving with those other games, due to having so many mechanical features that interact with each other in weird ways.

Its Immersive Sim because, unlike in a lot of games, you can look at a thing and go "If I can pick up that crate I can get up high enough to hop the wall, I'll be able to just bypass this thing" and it will work. Because the game tries to simulate physics and the world more than it tries to tie down the player. So its immersive, because most things act like they would in real life, and its a sim because its simulating real life.

Those terms have taken on other connotations since the term first sort of took hold, but thats the origin.

Them putting Kroot companion in Dark Heresy is weird, but Kroot have access to Warp Travel tech, which they keep away from Tau, and it's why they are everywhere. I agree a Kroot companion would be out of place in DH, but Kroot were one of the first xenos made playable in the Rogue Trader tabletop game.
As for why Kroot are in the Koronus expanse - it's because they travelled through the Jericho-Maw Warp Gate before it was discovered by the Imperium. It allows instant travel to the Jericho Reach in the eastern fringe and is hidden in the passage between Calixis and Koronus. Its existence is kept secret by the Imperium so it's only hinted at in the RT books but is detailed in the Deathwatch books.

Yeah. Narratively the gate was used as an excuse both to set the Deathwatch RPG in the eastern fringe while keeping it connected to the Calixis/Koronus setting used in all the other game lines and plausibly allow a small amount of Eastern Fringe stuff back into that setting.
The Tau expansion itself is literally just a small book with the rules to create and level up a Tau character and rules for some Tau equipment, it doesn't really have any fluff. In the context of the Deathwatch RPG the crusade being mounted through the warp gate is ramping up and the Imperium is definitely making use of Rogue Traders, some of which probably do trade with the Tau.

I do wonder how they're going to treat it. Compared to a Rogue Trader it's a lot harder to narratively justify a character from a different background suddenly being thrust into the role of Inquisitor without going through years of training as an Interrogator.

Personally I think playing as a newly appointed Inquisitor would be the most compelling for a game like that as it would give you a lot of authority over the average citizen but to begin with you wouldn't have the reputation or influence to exercise any real authority over other high ranking members of the Imperium without the backing of other Inquisitors. Sadly, I suspect they will go the nobody suddenly promoted to Grand Inquisitor route.

Vermintide 2 is dated and needs a sequel. Darktide is barely a 40k game. i'm really excited about the Space Marine 2 Horde Mode on the horizon, though. Saber's ongoing support and encouragement toward modders has rocketed Space Marine 2 to first place on my Warhammer games list.

Proper Tyranids I doubt we're going to see unless they retread genestealers because otherwise they'd overshadow everything else. And we're going to get Chaos and at least one Space Marine no matter what.

Inquisitors are the 40k equivalent of a combination of CIA, Secret Agent and Gestapo Officer. Only with the freedom and resources to basically do whatever they want to achieve the nebulous goal of keeping the Imperium going. They often have more authority than the planetary governor and can theoretically order around Space Muhrines. They mostly concern themselves with Chaos outbreaks, alien incursions, big heretical cults, and things like that.

Dark Heresy was a TTRPG system where you played as Inquisitor Adepts. Basically low ranked people an individual Inquisitor recruits to get things done when they have more important things to do. You theoretically have their approval and permission to do what you need to do, but waving around an Inquisitorial Seal is a quick way to end up dead unless you have the boom to back it up, because at your level, if an Inquisitor loses a few of you, he might not even notice besides a report on his desk that says "Cell Gamma has not reported in, assumed KIA."
The power level is somewhere around elite Guardsmen. You were recruited for a reason, but you aren't fighting most things in the setting toe to toe. There are rules for psykers, but they have a tendency to blow themselves up, along with their party about 40% of the time.

The game's tone is something like low level Cyberpunk TTRPG campaigns. Inquisitor gives you a job like "investigate this cult" or "figure out how the gangs in this hive know about Eldar" and you roleplay out an investigation. Straight out shootouts are liable to get you killed, so the game is often about talking your way up to the point where your party's expertly crafted (sarcasm) plan gets executed, where you've stacked the dice in your favor very heavily.

Its a very fun game, but its not a power fantasy where you go stomping around in power armor.
IMO its basically the perfect 40k roleplaying experience if you're not into the marine wank most of the rest of the setting is full of.

I like that argenta and idira have a little arc if you keep them in the same party over the game, they go from constantly bickering in the early acts to being more understanding of each other in act3/4. it's neat to see companion dynamics shift and I hope owlcat does more of it in the future

They did a pre-order thing where you could put down money at different levels for extra shit. Personally I bought the version that gave the game, beta access, and some minor unique items I think it was $10 cheaper than the launch price.
