I'm fully convinced that Dess is the knight and that the Twin Peaks posters are onto something. There is a darkness hanging over the whole town because of Dess' disappearance but nobody really wants to address it and wants to pretend everything is all happy, when it isn't at all. It's cursed.

It's not Omori, Dess didn't die. Maybe assumed dead, but Dess fell into the dark world and is trapped. We know she was a bit older than our main cast and a protective figure. Over years in the dark world she would grow in strength to become a knight. The events of the game are Dess desperately trying to get home or to call out for help. By this point she has been transformed into something darker than her old self. Kris being the knight is a red herring. The dark worlds are all easy to understand how they connect to him, but they fit Dess just as well. The dark worlds are basically portals into Dess' mind and memories and they're already filled with references to her. It's a quirky Earthbound inspired indie about depression (darkness) and friends of the person trapped in darkness trying to break them out of it, even if they don't actively know it.

Dess creates the fountains, drawing them closer to her, hoping to be saved. As they close them, they are bringing acceptance to Dess in one way while also making her more desperate. The roaring is her ultimate attempt at escaping. If she can't get out to go back to her family and friends then she'll have the world she is trapped in envelope the world she left so she can be with them again.

The other candidates are just stupid.
Kris? Agame character wants control back from the player cuz he are sad! No. He rips the soul out because HE feels responsible and wants to save Dess, himself. Not have you do it for him.
Alvin? Oh he is sad his dad died and wants to make his story books come to life! Wow!

I have only been sparing enemies and have never used Ralsei's pacify when I have been given the opportunity not to. This is footage of the post-weird route. You are exerting your will through Ralsei onto the darkners, forcing bonds onto the darkners rather than them accepting you as a friend/ally on their own terms (even Ralsei recognizes the POWER of breaking bonds). This is the opposite of doing the Pacifist route in Undertale by beating everybody up until they call for mercy.

are there any element austists here? it's a part of the game ive barely seen discussion on and i think it's pretty neat. we know that 2 elements share 1 spot in each element slot (confirmed by the sky mantle defending holy/elec, and there only being 11 elements in the code despite there obviously being more)

we're still missing a lot of the elements but we can fill in the blanks with a lot of them because all of them have themes that tie them together

for example, one of the clearest cut element duos is "Ice/Fight" due to be associated with pushing people away from you and emotional dissonance. Fight would most likely be the opposite of Heart, meaning Heart's duo is probably "Fire/Heart"

Genocide is always gonna have similarities to the weird route just out of sharing some general themes. The main distinction is that Genocide is deconstructing the standard RPG-player approach of beating the game by getting as strong as possible. On the other hand weird route seems to be dealing with Deltarune's themes of fate and taking control of it. The player is taking whatever means they can to break the games intended script, no matter the repercussions and how it harms the characters.

In another sense, Undertale is about giving you the choice to approach what appears to be a run-of-the-mill jrpg in a new way (pacifist) or via genocide. Deltarune is explicity a game that is supposed to NOT give you a choice, and weird route is you finding and exploiting whatever cracks you can find.

I think it will continue to require fighting, it’s a theme it shares with Undertale that the alt route requires going against the developer’s intent. But it won’t be killing everything possible in future chapters, it will be killing very specific enemies only.
