Describe how you felt the first time you saw Waukeen's Promenade after merging from Irenicus' dungeon.
Describe how you felt the first time you saw Waukeen's Promenade after merging from Irenicus' dungeon
i don't remember
it's been 20 years
you should be playing relevant RPGs like dark souls and skyrim
Ah shit, next two hours I'm gonna be forced to speak with all these fuckers around me
its been more than 20 years but i remember exactly. i accidentally misclicked into the circus and got stuck on aerie quest before i could explore it.
Cope harder, grandpa. Dark Souls wishes it had an ounce of the soul that Promenade packed into that single transition from dungeon to city. Skyrim's just Todd's tourist trap with cardboard NPCs. You ever step into daylight after hours underground and feel like you earned it? That's Waukeen's.
Dark Souls and Skyrim are 20 years old.
Weird ass strip mall
get to speak with all these fuckers around me**
Nothing remarkable about it. I was happy to find the little circus and recruit Aerie.
The worldbuilding in this game leaves a lot to be desired. It's generic and random at the same time.
oh no there's so many doors
I just want to have an adventure, not a hobo burglar simulator
all these people sure are calm for being in a plaza where a wizard just blew up a dome and killed a lot of people
I was scared of the wizard police that show up in the cutscene and that they'd come fuck me up.
Now I've completely metagamed these games and don't even think about them at all.
I was a kid back then so I was filled with a lot of childhood wonder. There were all these places to check out, and the artstyle was so captivating. It was pretty cool.
This. I remember loving whenever I reached a new town in a Final Fantasy game, because I got to ransack it and speak with the people, but they were always very manageable in size. Amn is unironically too much and too open from the get-go for its own good. Yes, too much of a good thing can be bad.
you dare to attack me here? Do you even know whom you face?!
evil wizard lair under shopping district
serial killer and skinner on bridge, as well as powerful group of hostile wizards
fucking vampires in the graveyard, which has near-Paris tier catacombs
Beholder in the deepest depths of the sewers
slavers and a plane-crossing sphere in the slums
A FUCKING LICH IN AN INN AT THE GATES
Even discounting Kangaxx who you have to go out of your way to bring back to fight, what the fuck was wrong with the City of Coins? Waterdeep and Neverwinter combined weren’t as dangerous
In a high magic setting like forgotten realms, it honestly makes sense that you'll be raped by epic level monsters the second you take the wrong alley.
Waterdeep and Neverwinter combined weren’t as dangerous
Really?
(Dad's) money well spent
I played this for the first time in 2010, I was just 13 at the time and I thought I had wasted my money because the graphics sucked, then I ended up loving the game and I played through it 5 times in a row.
Don't forget the hidden Illithid lair in the sewers.
Technically only because both are full of mostly low level monsters compared to the clusterfuck of Amn - Compare Neverwinter Nights’ OG campaign and the first Eye of the Beholder to this.
NWN has Maugrim's merry gang of faggots that includes a balor and eventually the lizard dungeon.
Waterdeep is way worse because it has Underdark below it. And you tie the ribbon with a lord of fucking Cania.
and the first Eye of the Beholder
Eh, I guess in that case. But NWN has HotU which has Waterdeep as well.
undermountain beneath waterdeep is not extremely dangerous
Pre-rendered graphics can look pretty rough if they aren't viewed at the right resolution. Which is typically really low.
In the Forgotten Realms, they call that "Tuesday".
Wasn't Waterdeep built on top of one of the major entrances to Underdark?
And back then Underdark was actually a high level super dangerous area.
He meant EoB, not HotU. I'm half asleep so misread that (in another, clarifying post) as not even sure what.
Maugrim just showed up and brought Morag back, the stuff in Amn seems like business as usual for them.
We need to go back.
I was just dumb kid, my first impression was that it looked dated but I ended up liking it.
BG2 was actually the first game I ever bought with my own money.
I was like "damn this place sucks"
I don't have enough gold for these fucking merchants
reach the docks/rogue guild quest
I REALLY don't have enough gold
You are wrong and gay
Relief but also out of place.
Part and parcel of living in the big city.
It felt pretty good. Nice sounds too.
OH THANK FUCK now the game can actually begin
I'd rather live in Amn than any american black majority city, seems safer
kino as fuck
getting questioned by the mage council was cool too
it's been 20 years
you should be playing games from 14 years ago like dark souls and skyrim
you're not making it any better, anon.
