It took E33 two weeks to sell as many copies as Rebirth did in single day on a single platform.

It's "turn-based". Problem with Expedition 33 is the parry mechanic, which overrides any tactical complexity of the game. The only challenge in the game is with the optional harder side bosses, who will one shot you, at least in the hardest difficulty. The main story is piss easy, because it's ultimately just about parrying, nothing more. I played till start of act 3 and dropped the game, because the combat was so boring. Parrying, while at a glance good addition, actually ruins any thought behind the combat.

It's Japan, they are extremely cheap on producing physical versions of games lately, it's such a problem that even Famitsu now has an indicator in their weekly best seller listings to show if the game is out of stock or not. I wouldn't be surprised if it only had 10k physical copies made.

The developers tried to make the game also appeal to gamers that dislike turn-based games, but I don't think it worked very well. It Just made many turn-based fans realize that turn-based are less boring, If they have real-time QTE events.
