SC2 kept it simple, in the best ways. In SCVI if i want to do any of Voldo's crazy Land fish stance shit, it's all locked behind an install which requires meter. Why the fuck would I do that though when supers are insantaneous and do way more damage than any of that shit? Also the the game doesn't have advancing or retreating guard for some reason? Just fuck my shit up. Also that rock-paper-scissors mechanic they added is stupid and pointless.

Did you know? If you keep making them dance after death and then grab them right before the replay would start playing the game will keep you in battle for the entire duration of the throw. It will even fade out the K.O. text if the throw animation is long enough.

Due to a glitch in Soulcalibur 6, roughly 30% of the time the game will take one less frame to process the input from the controllers. This happens on all platforms. When it happens is unpredictable, and it isn't known how the next frame of inputs are handled. Usually it dips for one frame, but sometimes it stays lowered for a few frames (and sometimes it will dip again in those frames, but it never seems to last on the second dip). This can be beneficial as it means your reactions are 1 frame faster 30% of the time, but it makes it impossible to be more than 70% consistent at any one frame timing window regardless of the player's consistency in their input timings

t b h 1 frame of delay shouldn't affect how you win. Most of the time in fighting games, it's what you choose to do in certain situations that determines how you win a match. Being 1 frame late isn't going to be that significant of an advantage when it comes to punishing a -30 on block move.

Ultimate has more sub-5 frame techniques in it that actually see use in competitive play, and most of them are literally just ledge catches against various characters' recoveries

I honestly have no clue. This is the only fighting game I've played where it feels so fluid with the combined 3D that it feels like you're playing out a movie. Really fun shit and even shit tier copy paste characters like Necrid are fun to use. Tekken feels so stilted by comparison.

Used to love adventure mode. Reading the stories and the costumes and weapons having different affects was cool too.

It was worse than that. He was completely immune to full versions of attack throws, even the ones that hit low. They jabbed him as if they connected at improper range even when he was really close. Mina's and Kilik's 1 A+B, Cervantes's 66B, etc. The worst offenders were Siegfried's Flapjack and Overtoss, they hit him and the hit stun animation plays but they do nothing to him. Yoda was a horrible idea, all things considered.
Link was considered really weak by competitive players and never won a tournament, though.

Namco had serious competition from Sega leading into the new millennium. Tekken was made by one of the old Virtua Fighter guys, the System 246 arcade board was a direct response to NAOMI and you could argue Taiko as being their answer to the many different rhythm games available on the Dreamcast.
Soulcalibur 1 was made as a partnership with Sega but it was nowhere near fully realized. So the team already knew going into the sequel what exactly they needed to add.
You also have to factor in that the recession hit Namco hard, and it was a miracle they rebounded. So in a way, SC2 felt like their "phoenix rising from the ashes" moment.
Also in an interview around time of release, the producer remarked that arcades were in a transitional period, which was a correct prediction, just a bit early. So Namco chose to release the game first in arcades and adjust as necessary, but flipped this with SC3. After that you immediately have the Bandai merger and the rest is history.
Namco knew their time was limited so they made one final magnum opus before selling out.

Say what you will, but SoulCalibur VI has the best guest character selection in the series. Geralt fits the theme of the setting and they found a good way to incorporate him into the canon story, 2B fulfils the needs of the coomer audience (who make up a sizeable portion of the SC fanbase as shown by this thread among others), and Haohmaru is just the cherry on top. Haohmaru ruined Mitsurugi for me when I realized how generic he is in comparison. Most importantly, all of those are video game characters (no, no one has read The Witcher books). Ezio in SC5 was good too, but that was just one guest character.
