This is a fallacy. The Switch is will soon be going into its 8th year on the market and uses a 2015 SoC. The cheapest Switch is $200. Comptetive phones and tablets cost $1,000.

The problem is not a single phone or tablet game offers higher fidelity visuals than a Switch game. Or sustainably higher framerate. Take something like Fortnite, 60fps mode runs on the top phones made in the past couple years. The resolution is a little higher than Switch but the fidelity is lower. After 30 minutes of play, the framerate drops to 30 frames per seconds due to throttling because phones are fabless and it’s too fucking hot.

Phones and tablets.don’t have the cooling solution to allow for their objectively better hardware to surpass the 2017 Switch. On average, smartphone games only have a slight resolution advantage and most games still don’t render in native resolutions anyways. They’re fanless and get too hot needing to throttle which kills performance. They have an Android and phone overhead that gimps performance. They have small batteries that drain to nothing under load. And they have shittier graphics drivers than what nvidia offers. They do offer way better CPU performance but it throttles too under load. Nvidia’s GPU in the switch and the 4GB of RAM which matches most expensive phones, are two reasons why the Switch is more than competitive 7 years later.

Then consider something like the steam deck, which on paper is technically superior, but not a single game is optimized to take advantage of its hardware.

I play games on the Deck that it can run well, and everything else on my desktop. It's a one time purchase too, I can still play games I bought 15+ years ago on the Deck and my current rig. Sometimes it takes a bit of tinkering but I don't mind, it's absolutely worth the trade-off of not having to buy the same games over and over again.

The deck already is. It's so easy to use my normalfag brother can use it and it got him back into gaming. He even eventually ventured into desktop mode to mod elden ring. PC has advanced a shitload in the past decade. You can easily turn it into something akin to a console at this point.

On the other hand, my current setup has inspired me to do a run of the original RE4 on my Deck when I'm not playing the remake on my desktop, which has been a really fun side by side experience.

You'll get like a solid 8 or so hours. I think the only thing that hits 12 on the Deck are VNs.

My piece of advice to all deck owners is this:
Dont use emudeck/retrodeck if you intend to emulate on both desktop and deck. Just use retroarch on steam, drop all the retroarch cores from the buildbot into both desktop and deck retroarch installs(this includes melonds and duckstation) and now youll have cloud saves across both.
