The dungeon "design" is nothing, just straight fucking hallways 99% of the time.
The bosses are just tapdancing away from glowing cones or recalling that in this particular dungeon's 2nd boss, when he scratches his left armpit, he will attack to his right. Higher difficulty is just more esoteric versions of that with more likelihood that your whole party dies if you forget to run counterclockwise when the boss wiggles his hips 3 times.

I really tried to like this game I sank around 700h into it across a year and realized it wasn't for me. The only thing I enjoyed was the raiding/ combat system during raids but everything else was simply too tedious. Unlocking classes shit even unlocking the raids was a chore. GW2 does these systems much better and being able to pick your own content without retarded barriers to entry should be the gold standard not the rare exception.
On the plus side my character was really cute and the casino / card game were both very enioyable

I'm in the Punished Discord (infamous for Dalamud's botting) and bot designers have testified they only bother to moderate when enough people use their script. They just finally decided to crack down on people who were using the ICE plugin for the Cosmic Exploration grinding and it was excessive use only.

I remember when erping was frowned upon in this game and it was strictly in Nightclubs and specific erp venues but it was not encouraged in any local chat in normal interactions with players.

Yeah, that was really upsetting. Now, if it was Part 1 being the dungeon end-boss and lead into Part 2 being the trial, then I would've been satisfied with that. The fact we end the whole Garlemald saga with slaying Anima and chasing Zenos to the moon was something I was highly upset with Endwalker, despite being a good story. What was the whole point of drumming up Garlemald's story line all these years? What about all the captured regions of Garlemald that were hinted in the Elemental Weapon storylines? It seems a lot of story potential just washed down the drain, because they grew bored with the Ascian storyline. Yet, we are still getting similar elements with post-Dawntrail's story.

Debatable. I got to omni-100 three weeks on expansion launch of Dawntrail by simply FATE farming in the 90+ zones. I made over 200 mil in gil by selling the vouchers too. Yet, I hear a lot of people complain in 7.1 and 7.2 about queue times in Novice Network no matter what server I hop onto.

FFXI alliance raid is a treat for gray neckbeards especially on its story. cosmic exploration was too heavy-handed with the rewards, too quick to get them so it's a bit barren depending on DC/world. occult crescent coming up on tuesday looks great but i don't know what they were thinking giving striking gear the right colors on cannoneer gear and not the aiming version. MSQ left off on a decently interesting villain cliffhanger and gave your character a goku moment. more going on with this expansion than any other prior expansion's own X.2 patch so far, stuffing occult crescent and cosmic exploration in the same patch is insane as it is

A lot of things, raiding, crafts, socializing, housing, chilling, dailies, side quests, farming but we all kind of know the combat is ass and the bosses while fun are a coordinated game of simon says, it's a great game when it's good gameplay+ great story but a game with a shit story and good gameplay is the norm, that's fortnite, I could be playing fortnite instead of FF14 and get a better experience from killing Sabrina Carpenter as Hatsune Miku with a lightsaber.
It's a different experience but it's not an average experience like doing the raids or doing the same raids again but harder. For me before I really just wanted to do shit with my friends exclusively because the gameplay is really not that great even on its own, especially with harder content, it just makes the bad gameplay even worse.
The story is actually a huge part of the game because stories provide context to what's happening. Dawntrail was SE's chance to take a break from what was established in previous expansions and they completely fucked it up.
Everything is new now, no sharlayan or garlemald to rely on like endwalker and we got Solution 9, a retarded city filled with retards and tural a lifeless husk being run by a moron that replaced king moron, it's a substantially worse experience to just be there, I'd rather be anywhere else doing anything else.
To be fair I got more annoyed with the gameplay the more I played the game and the more I learned about it, it was more fun at first but I saw what people were talking about with the other jobs and I began to dislike it.

My gripe with endwalker is just that they obviously shoved two expansion's worth of story into one so A LOT of shit was simply scrapped for convenience.
It kind of makes sense given what they ended up doing with Dawntrail. The budget and finances were taking a huge step back and XIV has stopped being the 'golden goose' for years now if you think about it.
They just don't care about XIV anymore. The Chinese Mobile version is basically what they're going to be focusing on from here on out. I'm only more convinced with the latest news they've shown regarding it.
XIV simply doesn't get the same level of detail or quality control as the mobile version is already getting.
