Ah, the Shadows of Doubt approach.

B-b-b-but he patched in SHOES!!!

I could have sworn I read this exact same cope before but apparently this game just failed in the last few weeks so it's a new one

doing it for money + attention

failed at the first hurdle i see.
it should be for the joy of creation and the satisfaction of seeing a product finished.

doesn't market the game

omg why didn't we sell copies

always same thing. then they often blame steam on it. that there's too many games so ours don't get found

there are 40+ new releases on steam every day
99,9% of them fail

releasing some pixelart rougelite in 2025 and expecting it to break the mold

Come the fuck on now.

honestly most of them are slop i wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole
a game doesn't need to be good but it has to like this guy said, be made with the joy of creating it and playing it.

I always wonder what goes through the heads of the makers of all that daily churned out Steam slop. Did they expect to fail? Looking for a cheap cash grab? Done it for the love of creating things? Are they demoralized after?

Depends on the person, but the smart ones and the ones that thrive are
A) The insanely lucky ones that made it despite the odds, these tend to inevitably crash out with time
B) The passionate ones that were well aware of the risks but enjoy game development for its own sake and are just fulfilling their passions, any potential money they get is a bonus, these ones cannot fail by default

unrealistic standards most indie games will be at best supplemental income to your day job

I'm trying to find out how much it cost before
Isthereanydeal doesn't have the price history saved

Joy of creation and satisfaction don't pay your bills or fund next projects. Literally every paid game ever was made with "I hope this sells" in mind.

Literally every paid piece of art ever was made with "I hope this sells" in mind.
Go up to more older times, every piece of art ever was made with "this is what my patreon paid me to do".
Any dipshit going on about how one should do it for art sake deserve to end up like Van Gogh. Die penniless and miserable while creating hundreds of pieces that didn't sell despite your best efforts, and never see a single dime from the assholes that sell and buy your works for a premium after death.

literally

isn't literally

Some paid projects failed because they, in fact, didn't do this for the money

Is this all it takes to get a press article these days? Make a flop of a game then lament how steam rightfully slaps your EA game with a Abandoned for 23 months label?

no you fucking retard
it's a video game kind of art for arts sake
it means if you don't even have fun playing your own game then it isn't worth trying to sell
even the op retard was like "well this was a minigame", it clearly was never deep enough to be its own thing and the guy was a fool for not taking his gut feeling that it just wasn't worth it seriously.

When and why did adults start talking like children?

Because they are ad revenue and attention whores. Profanity leads to generating less from both, which is why you have the current generation of fucking infants using unalive, k**l, heck, etc. and hating something so risque as yoga pants and a hint of cleavage.

hecking

What the fuck is that s*yshit?

it means if you don't even have fun playing your own game then it isn't worth trying to sell

I doubt fucking anybody at acti-piss enjoys the shit they are making but clearly it is worth selling them.
Grow the fuck up.

This sort of thing is completely normal. Most people assume that the "50 games come out every day and 2 of them succeed" thing means that 48 of them are shovelware, but really, lt's more like 30 of them are shovelware, and the rest are all generally mediocre or misguided passion projects. And all of those people though they were going to be one of the successes.

the HECK on

why did no one buy my pipe puzzle game

A real fucking mystery

Influencers did them to avoid ad revenue problems, then zoomers thought it was cool. Also a factor of thinking their learning profanity phase was cringe, then they go to the extreme opposite by thinking acting like a manchild is mature.

the joy of creation and the satisfaction of seeing a product finished isn't gonna pay the rent though

Weak. Never surrender

Just ignore him. Faggots who say that shit are sheltered as fuck and don't realize that the product is already perfect in your head and has to come out flawed by its very nature
When you're actually building something, IT IS ALWAYS INTENDED TO HAVE AN AUDIENCE. IT IS INTENDED FOR OTHER PEOPLE TO WANT IT. IF IT WAS JUST FOR YOUR OWN SATISFACTION, IT WOULD STAY IN YOUR HEAD
It's that simple a maxim, and people still fail to grasp it. I think they do it on purpose.

They never charged for it

it should be for the joy of creation and the satisfaction of seeing a product finished.

If the game you're making isn't something you, the creator, are willing to pay money for, then it isn't worth making in the first place because why the fuck would you expect other people to want to buy it, let alone play it?

imagine trapping this guy in your goon bunker

Has Patrick Stewart ever been young? Guy has been old for as long as I remember.

I am not a retard or indian so I don't play gacha/card slop but I would absolutely make that kind of shit if I wanted to make money because I understand most of the world is retarded, or indian.
