I want to like this game but god damn the girls really don't hit the same as Rune Factory. Celine and Adeline are both okay, but they'd still be low tier by RF standards.

The gameplay in indie farming games usually is pretty alright but the girls (integrations/dialogues in general, both quantity and quality) are always barebones compared to Rune Factory, but I guess it's an unfair comparison because Rune Factory have a shitton of dialogue and the girls have more opportunities to show their personalities.

I think everyone in the village is a yokai (and can turn into monsters/animals, including the player), but some of the girls don't have human forms (like the mermaid and the furry cat girl);

Ape understood the assignment as a Harvest Moon fan, brought in much needed qol features because Stardew was a PC game first-and-foremost, and unfortunately drew the attention of the entire world to the farming life sim genre.

I really like Sun Haven, which is basically Stardew Valley the extra extra++ edition with all its mods, and 4 top tiers waifu, including a literal angel that wants to suck your cock.

The devs are gatcha tier in monetization, but you can simply buy the game (without the jewish add-ons), and it's honestly the perfection of Stardew Valley. Even got better waifus. Hell, pirate it, don't give money to those niggers.

Understood what made the genre good and vastly improved upon it, reviving the genre as a whole which was previously neglected by the gaming industry.

Occasionally, but most farming games just end up being Stardew but worse. So I lose interest pretty fast.

It avoided two of the main issues that face a lot of these games, annoying controls and slow speeds. Add on top of that some at the time much needed QoL features, novel mechanics and good pacing. It just helps when you don't have like 20+ years of expected series baggage that holds you back. Rune Factory is great, but it will never feel as effortless to play until they basically develop it as a PC game. Which will never happen.

I haven't gone far but they're adding a lot of customization with clothing, furniture, and colored animals as well

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the first commandment for the artists were: do everything that Stardew Valley do, like, exactly like Stardew Valley, but a little bit better. Sun Haven is THE Stardew Valley clone, and that includes the art style. It's carbon copy Stardew Valley. It's trying to be Stardew Valley but 7 times the content and is absolutely unrepentant about.

I honestly find weird that Stardew Valley players, which I was one, ignore the game that has for the first command: be Stardew Valley, but add ten metric tons of stuff.

Rate my game idea for a farming game

you wind up on a mysterious island surround by mist

you have a magical lantern that can dispel the mist

the world is procedurally generated and resets after a certain time

you explore the island and clear the mist as you go

you gather supplies to build your farm, catch animals to raise, and find new crops to grow as you explore

the world resets and mists cover the island again except for your farm

new biomes appear as your farm grows

light combat mechanics as dangerous beasts start appearing

eventually you get the ability to make special campfires and torches that lets you keep areas you want from resetting, so if you find a lake you really like you can build a camp there and it won’t reset

eventually you can rescue others trapped on the island and grow your farm into a town

maybe so multiplayer thing where you can find other people’s farms and camps and trade with them

eventually dungeons will start appearing and you can explore them to uncover the island’s secrets

catch animals to raise

Then they failed. Sun Haven focuses a lot on small thin outlines with a lot of contrast. Which is pretty unappealing to look at in my opinion. I don't know, it just doesn't feel like anything blend together as it should.
That and the character sprites look like they came straight out of someone's 12 year old chibi drawing they made in MS Paint.

game has a hex grid system for building and farming but they're not directly visible so as to not distract from the art style, which emulates the classic ps1 spyro vibe. Excellent color palette and forced-sovl medium-poly character models

your island floats through empty space which is constantly fluxuating in colorscape

there is a wellspring at the center of your island which allows you to stay awake forever. This is a very important narrative device, as well as mechanical, because in this void of space, when people dream they enter a living nightmare where they have to fight monsters and stuff. Not everyone has access to wellsprings. Anyways, the wellwater allows you to enter the Dreamlands and acts as your healing item until you run out and wake up

dreamlands half of the game is a rougelite/beat em up/bullet hell type game reminiscent of hades or what-have-you

in the dreamlands you can find things to grow your farm, new types of sneeds, animal, tree sapling, literal pieces of land that you can graft onto your island to grow in size, eventually freeing npcs, potential waifus, etc, from the dreamlands

there will be a sort of "barter" system, where you can gamble things on your farm with against bosses or stuff for better rewards. When you die, there is always some amount of damage to your farm, like crops withering or so

in the real world, you come across npcs as their own islands, ships, etc. float by. Merchants of all kinds, npcs that give quest, some that give lore

RF 3 and 4 are still peak though and they're on Steam. Maybe Guardians of Azuma will be decent, though I don't have a lot of hope. Especially with every fucking Bachelorette being the same age and roughly the same body type AGAIN. No lolis/young girls, no older women, nothing. Boring as fuck.

And yeah anon I REALLY like these ideas you've got, especially the concept of building your own town with your torches and saving places you find that are cool by preserving them. If you want a seasonal type game, as is tradition, you can consider different biomes appearing depending on the season. Or if youre really brave, have each biome go through each season lol
The way I have mine set up is that each season the dreamlands change with them. I would have some biomes that go through seasons, but some that are unique to each one. Eventually the player will be able to choose which biome the enter upon going into the dreamlands, as long as theyre available, via some sort of mechanic.
Also, i forgot to mention, the scythe is the main weapon in this half of the game, but there are a collection of other weapons, too, that you can use either exclusively or off-hand with the scythe in a dual-weild mode. Different weapons will have different playstyles and uses, effective against different enemies, etc. The whole idea behind the dreamlands is that you use what you find in there to grow your farm and you use what you grow on your farm/find in the daytime via trading and quests, etc. To become more powerful in the dream
Anyways, a game came out into EA recently called "aloft" which looks very similar to some of the things I was imagining, though it looks very barebones and jank. I would obviously want our game to be good

I usually complete perfection on stardew before the end of y4. 3 years for completion of all content, 4th year for the retarded grind to 15m or whatever
