Dungeons needs gimmicks and need to be on the same tier as trails. You need the same design ethos as trails for dungeons.

FF11 and FF12 use RTB, real time battle system which is a hybrid of using turnbased abilities into real time combat. They are not action based.

These are games where you don't move (or movement doesn't matter, like in 12) and you select attacks using a menu instead of pushing a button to make a character move with an attack. Their combat systems are (mostly) map-less tactical battles, which rarely goes beyond "rows" in terms of positioning.
Obviously the action games and MMOs are different, though 11 is still effectively menu based and less movement driven than 14.

FFXI works totally fine as a single player game, though it's even better with a friend or two to go along with you. If you are careful about not being overleveled for mission fights, you may even find those battles very enjoyable.

The peak era can be somewhat experienced with private servers, but that would require a huge commitment.
The only real catch for the retail version is that it is basically required to follow a guide, if not keep a wiki open at all times (though that can be overkill half the time).

1.0 had very little FFXI assets during its launch. When it went into panic mode and YoshiP(iss) took over, that's when the FFXI model reuse began to enter the game. It wasn't a ton though. It's only with 2.0 it became egregious and started to include FFXII and FFXIII. Perhaps what's more egregious is that they are still doing it to this day. Anyway saying that 50% (or more) of FFXIV's monster models are from other games (with some touch-ups) is 100% true.
