Remaking 2 and 3 with all DLC, extra content, JP audio (only. Save money at least at first, given that VC3 never got an overseas release at all so there's no dubbing available) , and expanded and improved maps, mechanics, story etc.. would be cheaper and faster than a whole new game and show there's interest for the series again

They should just release remakes of VC2 and 3 with newly balanced maps so they can have one huge one instead of the mini ones due to the PSP's limits.

3 might have been my favorite of the series but seeing the same maps get repurposed so much did get really tiresome.

The PSP limitations made the gameplay better.
Several camps you had to capture and then hold to be able to even move your units to other areas put a further damper on rushing past shit. Additionally since they made all those maps with the idea they were going to be used several times over, enemy units rely less on being scripted running around in circles into actually being very aggressive in constantly wanting to capture your shit.

The most elegant way to stop rushes is to make all hits drain AP. This means that enemies facing the right way will naturally prevent scouts from rushing past, unless they miss their shots. Scouts have rifles so they can shoot first, but any return fire they take will of course reduce the distance they can cover after killing an enemy in the way(or failing to do so).

MG hits will be less than a rifle hit but due to the sheer hitcount they will quickly drain a player (or enemy) unit's AP bar. Thus stormtroopers firing at their max range and doing little damage are actually contributing heavily to controlling the opponent's movement.

Imca's romance was originally supposed to be in the original version. They didn't have the time and budget to finish it. That's one of the reasons why the Extra Edition was created in the first place. It made the game way better
