This makes it so both parties see the others as animals, because humans cannot differentiate between the animalistic and the intellectual, but the aliens switch between the two extremes. Within this framework you could make humans shine without becoming overly indulgent.

If you look at any economy book, you'll see that farmers are adrain in the system. This is true only because our current econmy is fixated in increasing GDP instead of running a funtional society. Farmers don't produce usefull crops, they produce the thing they can sell at the highest market value.
