What games were actually good on the Gameboy
What games were actually good on the Gameboy
tetris
pokemon
Pokemon Red/Blue
Zelda Link's Awakening
Final Fantasy Adventure
Tripworld is pretty fun
bumpin'. Just ordered an everdrive and I want more suggestions for hidden gems
Super Mario Land 2
Donkey Kong
Oracle of Ages/Seasons.
Dipshit
This was my fucking JAM
Tennis, pretty simple but can get challenging
Fair enough those are both great games but this thread is more about Gameboy games not Gameboy Color games.
My bad then Kirby's Dreamland.
Can't beat old classics.
I like the castlevanias on the GB. They are short, chill and comfy.
This game is pretty good. It's like mario with a gun.
Unironically
Big adventure despite being on the GB. It's also pretty challenging.
This one is better, with missions and shit.
oh yeah this was actually pretty good
Starfox
It's like mario with a gun.
Lol fuck yeah, I'll definitely check it out
what would a gameboy starfox game have looked like?
Jurassic Kino.
Ocean
tfw beat 2 but never beat 1 despite having it since I was a kid
It would have looked like a teenager showing Nintendo how their hardware actually works by demonstrating 3d games on a gameboy and then promptly being hired to teach them how to make 3d games for n64.
Their Jurassic Park games were actually decent.
Soundtracks were top tier.
Dragon Warrior Monsters
The creme of the crop when it comes to castlevania on the original gameboy.
Tetris
end of list
based
Probably my favorite GB game and second favorite Wario Land. Rip
SML2 holds up nicely. It's a bit easy, but that's kind of the consequence of it's open-ended overworld, and the final level is a huge difficulty spike I never got over as a kid. Still, it has good controls, very good music, and good level variety and is a fun game you can beat in an hour or two. Unfortunately you can't say the same for Mario Land 1, but it was pretty neat at the time of its lauch I guess
1 is iconic. Every time I hear the music it makes me want to go for another run.
MegaMan II
Ninja Gaiden Shadow
Bionic Commando
GOAT
i remember getting pokemon yellow and the pokemon gameboy, then my sister got pokemon blue and a game boy pocket.
i was really jealous she got to pick from 3 starters but then i saw there was no jesse/james etc. and my jealousy was cured
It's definitely iconic and an amazing achievement as a launch title, and I played it a lot as a kid. From the frame of someone with no nostalgia and just playing the game, I don't think it's nearly as good as SML2. It's still a good game (there are plenty of actual bad games on the GB) but I just think SML2 improved it a lot and it was a bit ahead of its time in terms of design
How long did it take until you found out you could get every starter?
I've heard of that game. I learned about baccarat because of it.
I honestly was disappointed when I found that out. As a kid, picking the starter was (or at least it felt like) a huge decision, it being the main pokemon you'd be relying on the entire game. The fact that you could have all three of these pokemon in Yellow felt really weird to me. I don't know maybe I'm crazy but I also didn't enjoy Yellow as a cash-grab that I still ended up getting
Fuck you, that game was based as all hell.
That still begs the question why Wario would go through the trouble in bribing an alien to kidnap a foreign princess, as a convoluted plot to take over an amusement park
Was the Gameboy based or cringe?
Great Greed
kirby's dreamland 2
Your typical villainous extremely convoluted plot to get back at his arch-nemesis while also getting the girl and rich. Leaning into the 'evil' comic foil for Mario.
pokemon yellow
The original Gameboy was the first video games machine I ever owned. Does this make me a boomer?
If we're talking the generations that most functioning human beings go by, no - you're probably a millenial. In gamer years? Probably a boom boom
I just renewed my sub to the basic nintendo online and I had no idea they added game boy. its a treasure trove. unlike NES or SNES there is a ton I want to play. even the OG tetris is there which makes me so happy.
Best game.
Have fun anon.
