Second sprite from Halloween Hack, stolen from Yume Nikki. But it's a non commerical rom hack, which by definition are built of the assets of others like a collage. Also, NOT GASTER'S SPRITE.

Third sprite is gaster's sprite, and very obviously an original asset inspired by Yume Nikki, but not stolen from it. The head shape is slightly different, as well as the eye shape, smile shape, and mouth placement. Also has an additional gash and the top gash is shaped differently. Gaster also has an entire torso that Uboa didn't have. Essentially like Fat Princess.

It would be more work to "modify" those sprites into what is in Undertale than it would be to just create the Undertale sprites from scratch while looking at the original for reference.

They are quite different. The Earthbound pattern is a bit more uneven and has extra detail to make it look slightly more like natural dirt. The Undertale pattern is very uniform woth just wavy lines. Again, it would be much much easier to just make a repeating wavy line pattern from scratch than it would be to take the more detailed pattern and "modify" it until it was more simplified.
