I think the core theme of Deltarune is gonna be compassion or something.
Sure Darkners aren't "real" and what happens to them won't affect the ending, but they still have emotions and character arcs. Castletown is pretty sad if you don't recruit anyone.
Schizobosses take from from objects that were once discarded, nobody cares about them anymore. Yet WE grew to care about them.
Same thing happened with Gaster, basically. He was in-canon a character that was "removed" from Undertale, the world continued without him like he might as well not exist. But we datamined him from the code(cuz the FUN values weren't working for a year) and decided "no, this dude we know nothing about MATTERS and we WANT him to matter!"
I think Deltarune is testing us on how much we give a fuck about things "no one else cares about". If even one person says this minor thing matters, then it does, regardless of if it has any meaning to the greater plot. As long as a character matters to US, then they have purpose.
In that sense, maybe Dess's disappearance is a social experiment of sorts. Supposedly, she was removed because whether she's there or not doesn't affect the ending. But her lack thereof still affects several characters. You can probably reach the end without ever bringing her back but like, will YOU be satisfied? Even if the outcome is the exact same, you still feel that the game isn't complete unless she's brought back and all the character arcs are resolved right?
I also feel like that's why weird route(aborted or not) won't lead to a satisfying outcome, because you're discarding your empathy to treat the vidya like a toy to mess around with. Sure you're schizo and REALLY want those secrets but is not giving a shit about the characters ACTUALLY the key to finding more characters that the universe stopped giving a shit about?

that was on the TL:DR era, besides i can see him being a degenerate with its own creations (or when trolling, like when the baby is you motiff slid into the sword and shield theme he worked on), muffet is from an external source however so i don't really see it getting added to deltarune
