ITT .exe games

What are some legitimately good games that can just be downloaded and played right now? No, installation, no account, just pop the actual entire game on your computer as one file and have a go
I know those aren't as popular anymore but there has to still be a small fanbase to them, right?

Also doesn't necessarily need to be a .exe file, any other file is fine, and if it's one of those old pc games that is basically just contained in one small folder with all the assets on it that's ok too
Point being just that they're small, are made up of very few files and can be played instantly

i recently learned kids nowadays literally don't know that exe is a file type and purely associate it with spooky spaghetti
heard a kid describe all creepypasta, even super old stuff like slenderman, as "exe's"

Isn't it app these days or something? I still call everything a program. Anyway I think Cave Story can be downloaded and played right this second and that's a good one.

Umm actually, the image you posted is a shortcut, which is not an .exe file to be exact

yeah fucking everything is an app now even on computers and it's obnoxious
whenever someone refers to anything as an app, even if its a website on their pc, you just know there's mental damage happening

Cave Story

i was just thinking most exe games are probably 2d platformers or RPG's, i imagine not many of them are 3d

It's also not a game, it's a dolphin

If AI pans out the way I think it will (it's a big meme and will never be profitable) as the boomers who've held cushy paper pushing jobs go into retirement there is going to be so much office work for late 20s slacker neets that will go entirely uncontested by zoomies it will be unreal. A genuine golden age.

i have no idea what you're talking about or what it has to do with games
but i don't think AI will disappear, it's a meme and it will go out of style but it'll forever be used and taint all merit based work and result in lots of garbage, not to mention this generation being raised thinking they just DESERVE things for showing up means they'll REEEEEEEEEEEEE till the end of time if they're ever not permitted to use AI to cheat their way through every schooling and industry

What it means is kids are literally too brain damaged by the phone to learn how to open a folder over a network and put an .xlsx file into it.

Just like OP is apparently too brain damaged to just Google "recommended games from the 90s" and then google "Jazz Jackrabbit download" or something.

Anon thinks OP making a discussion thread about something means he can't just google a list

Literal retard doesn't comprehend the worth of discussion

Just like OP is apparently too brain damaged to just Google "recommended games from the 90s" and then google "Jazz Jackrabbit download" or something.

I think it's funny you get mad at people for talking at a place where you're supposed to come and talk

yeah, if its any good its on Itch Io.

ikr

just google everything and also trust what google and the idiots that google promotes recommend

I gave it a decent amount of time on my college laptop. That machine didn't run well so it actively made the game easier with slowdowns. I didn't realize that until I changed laptops.

Meritocracy is dead and has been for a while. Those zoomies will enter the workforce despite being incompetent. It's not about how smart or competent you are it's about being the right underrepresented minority or knowing the right people.

the look of that website

"for windows 9x"

Yeah good point. Lately I've been getting back into playing old DOS adventure games through SCUMMVM in their native res on a crt monitor. Can't recommend trawling the SCUMMVM catalogue enough.

No, installation, no account

Most itch games just need to be unpacked and are ready to play, one exe file games are probably something you enjoy on win98 for 5 minutes and forget. I guess flash games is what you need.

What's wrong with installation? It's less efficient to just zip portable binaries.
To answer your question - every single pirated vidya.

Not OP but probably nothing. It's just a thread specifying games you don't have to "install" in any way

The slow laptop was "Vista ready."

They're all stupid

It's less (((efficient))) to just zip portable binaries.

i've been thinking about this for a while, every generation has their 'world', the thing they're best at
every previous generation didn't understand what the new one knew, and every new gen didn't understand they old, but they DID have their skillset
grandpa who grew up on the farm couldn't work a factory machine, but his kid who grew up in the city couldn't milk a cow or fix a shed, but that's fine, they had their skillset
the next kid couldn't operate an old machine but he could operate an old computer, and the kid after him could program, but what do kids now know? they can't even move a folder around, their whole world is on social media, but it's not like they understand how algorithms work or hold on theres two pigeons in my room let me throw them out ok im back, they can't develop a social media website or understand how AI is coded, their world is not their own, it's entirely within someone elses with not even the speck of agency that other gens had. their skillset now is entirely social, knowing what to say, how to survive without being cancelled or emotionally traumatised, every old skillset was about making yourself a place in the world, but the current one is simply about navigating what isn't yours

That's probably why AI is so appealing now, it's not really comparable to a tool like people wanna say it is because a hammer still needs to be swung and even a machine needs to be commanded
AI does the "thinking" (or rather mimics it and repeats things that have already been written but that's ok for them) because it's the last part nobody wants to know, we've automated movement, we've automated power, but the last thing we had was human input, and now we want to automate that too

I genuinely don't understand all this talk about zoomers not understanding file structure
I work in an administration job and we get a constant influx of new zoomer hires, most of them are completely competent in terms of computer use and I've never met anyone there that wouldn't know what a a folder is
is this an American thing or some sort of a psy-op?

dcss just get an older version pre-pozzing

I don't get why people say the average person can't perform surgery, I work as a surgeon and all our surgeons can do it!

You a little stupid, bro?
We're talking in general, most of us see that most people under 20 no I'm not gonna use the word zoomer I'm not braindead can't comprehend computers

Their skill will be coping with owning nothing and being happy.
Whoever is hiring is doing their job properly and filtering out the useless ones. When we say "zoomers" we don't mean literally 100% every single last zoomer. Just discussing trends.

it's just a misunderstanding. back in the day, most people didn't engage with computers so they didn't know how file structures work. nowadays, most people engage with some form of a computer (phone, tablet, laptop...) yet still don't know how file structures work.
thing is, the people who used to not engage with computers didn't do it because they didn't understand it. so nothing changed.

I'm in my mid 20's in a first world country, people in my graduating class range from "able to look up something in file explorer" to "doesn't know what a folder is" in skill
No joke an actual exchange I witnessed was someone asking in the group chat how to print a word document and 2 people responded with "Idk ask ChatGPT" It made me fucking physically pic rel

most of us see that most people under 20 can't comprehend computers

but where? Where do you see that?

Lucky you and unlucky me is all I can say to your no problems. Not my experience at all. More 1 out of every 10 feel lucky they're even a novice at any of this shit

in our lives? again, if you work with people who know it, great, but many of us don't interact with people in the IT business, we talk to normal folk and observe that basic things that older gens can do, they can't, you can argue it's all anecdotes, and maybe it is, but clearly if so many people have similar anecdotes and they all pile up then maybe there's some pattern to it

Fun fact, this guy's games got bundled together with a level editor and extra levels in a Wii game called "Blast Works", I still have my 99 cent bargain bin copy

But what about THIS outlier? And THIS one?

I never knew the creator was one and the same. Neat.

Everything is an outlier, except my cherry picked examples, you hecking chud.

you hecking chud.

nta but i hope you realize talking like this is pretty much a signal to everyone involved that your input is worthless and is a sign not to even bother talking to you

eugh.jpg - 516x516, 28.68K

No argument

Why are you people like this?

i'm not arguing with you i'm calling you annoying
it's not a debate it's an observation followed by an insult
take it or leave it

you people

WHOA

undertale

eh, wasn't a fan of it
i can see how it got big but i can't bring myself to like it
even the few characters i do enjoy are either overshadowed by the huge amount of in-universe ruining scenes or fanon mischaracterization turned canon, or just taken over by all the other crap in the game making it not worth it to play for them

I'm 35. I work with some dudes who are 25. I try to show them computer stuff and always have to slow down and go back over the most basic shit. I blew their fucking brains just showing then ctrl+c and ctrl+p. I type a solid 90-100 WPM and they can barely find the return key.

Instant samefagging reply

Obsessed much?

Well this thread was fucked pretty much instantly.

no, anon, not everyone who disagrees with you is one person
get your ego sorted out, it's possible for several people not to agree with you

replies are less than 30 seconds apart

I know people that are too incompetent to know how to download an adblocker.

it's not as download and go as that, you need a rom file for it first, but Perfect Dark has a nice PC port now and it's the game's 25th anniversary.

If you've never played it, give it a go. it's really good

Not my fault you can't wait more than 30 seconds.

know girl in her 20's who asked me for advice with her laptop having problems

among other things i suggested adblock

she gets it

calls me later asking how to remove it

"why?"

"i'm not getting shown good temu deals anymore"

pain.png - 362x396, 234.8K

that is most people by my estimation. I once was forced to show everyone at work how to do it because I told one person and he was blown away by not having ads anymore, so I had to make the rounds on everyone's laptop

All games are executable games by their very definition

You sounds like the type of asshole who says shit like "umm technically I'm not touching you because our atoms never actually fully touch"

There's a million versions of Tetris that you can just download, extract and play. My Hitlist:

Apotris

Good mode selection, good music and you can add more (BUT it has to be sequenced module files), also has a GBA ROM so you can play it on anything.

Nullpomino

Huge range of modes including some based on other games. Fairly Spartan presentation with no music included. Download the zip for the portable version.

Heboris CE

Awesome presentation and a lot of modes, the default music is a grating midi but you can replace it with effort. Notably has a mission mode.

none of these are pure exes though

They would lose a lot of customization if they were a single file. If you want to open the files and replace the sounds with ones ripped from official games, or even stupid meme sounds, you can do just that.

one of those old pc games that is basically just contained in one small folder with all the assets on it

what would you call these?
