the assets of the original were built in a very specific manner so that they only made sense when positioned in the exact right way

imagine you have a poster you want to fit between a few picture frames, so you cut it to fit perfectly in the gap

the remake people either didn't notice this or didn't care, so they've put assets out of positions. it's moving the pictures and poster so you can see the wall in between and it looks off and wrong and once you notice it it's hard to not

I just think most of the composers Toby included failed to match the atmosphere and aesthetic of OFF with their songs for the most part that being said the new flesh made tango is actually one of the better tracks

Not really, because that's not the point. I don't mind the new battle UI, nor the new battle system. I just care that if they're going to change it that they not be blind to design choices that were made with the original battle system's layout. The backgrounds are mostly a solid color, and they already cut out a chunk of the lower half's pattern to accomodate the widescreen. They can easily just shift the patterns around to fit the new menus. And Dedan's shadow is so very obviously drawn to work around the original's "BATTLE TIME" text, but now he just has a dent in his shadow for no reason other than whoever was working on it didn't actually care about the game enough to notice.

As an example, all they need to do is picrel with Dedan's Shadow. Are they just afraid of "adding" to Mortis' work that much? I doubt it, adding 4 black pixels to what was meant to be an obscured shadow wouldn't be derided by anyone.

The problem shown here is pretty egregious, but this infographic does a really bad job showing what the problem actually is so I can see why everyone replying to you is calling you a schizo.

In the original, the shading of the background elements changes when it crosses the threshold of the UI. This effect was done by altering the color of the background on pixels where the UI overlaps with the background. The remake changed the positioning of UI elements and uses the same background, but it did not readjust the shading on the original assets, so the effect is broken. Rather than have the shading change when is crosses the UI threshold, the shading changes at seemingly random points. This is most noticeable in the bottom left corner where the background pattern has a random red line going through it and a random change to the color orange. In the original, the shift in color isn't random, the color shifted when the background pattern started being overlapped by the UI.

Yeah especially given they advertise it has having a new battle system. $35 for essentially the same game just with Toby Fox smeared over it. It's more expensive than fucking Deltarune.

If anything, it's basically free marketings (although Mother is already popular)

There's some other small changes, but the fact it's still functionally the same really feels like they oversold it. At this point you should just play the Forgotten Dreams version. It rebalances the combat, which is a bigger change to the combat than the remake already.

The definitive version of OFF came out years ago already, play that instead
