[Sad News] Xbox Handheld is Cancelled

Probably for the best, unless it was going to be as cheap and simple as putting their brand and some software on an ROG or something

Cancel their handheld PC to focus on a handheld PC

what

They're seeing new handhelds release with SteamOS instead of Windows and they're freaking out.

They're making a Windows 11 Gaming OS for third party manufacturers to use to try and combat SteamOS

Selling a handheld without exclusives. That can launch Steam, so you don't make money from your own Microsoft store. And that you'll convince Gabe Newell to part with his 30% pay cut to help Microsoft's handheld. Never me be any sense.
"Cheap"? Than the Switch 2? It'll have to run at least Xbox One games without patches. Hardware level power, that's $500 easily and sold at a loss. If it's $800 "cheap", lol....

The Xbox Series X successor is totally safe, with development continuing at full pace

Ain't no way in hell that's actually gonna release either.
Game sales on Xbox are abysmal for first and third party titles, every upcoming Microsoft game will also be on PlayStation, and even the current Xbox hardware is being outsold at a 3:1 ratio compared to PS5.
And releasing the next-gen by 2027 only makes it more absurd as current gen console prices are still climbing up half a decade after release. Damn thing's gonna cost a 1000 bucks minimum.

Steam OS must have really spooked them. They should have prioritized making a lightweight consolized windows for handhelds from the start. No doubt their Xbox handheld was just gonna be a Lenovo Legion Go clone running stock windows 11 but with xbox branding and gamepass pre-installed.

series x/s suscessor

Doubt thats exist

I thought they only care about selling gamepass, a gaming handheld seemed like the logical next step, what gives?

Pajeetsoft got completely spooked by SteamOS LMAO

tXL27Dw.png - 1632x1016, 233.21K

Probably was too expensive, pajeet CEO likely refused to sell at loss

POV you work at Valve. How would you react if Microsoft negotiators told you to give up your 30% pay cut from Steam, so that Microsoft's handheld(or console) can purchase your store's games and you share that profit. Remember that Valve has their own portable hardware to sell.

As it should

Sounds like stock manipulation

The same thats nintendo execs did when MS tried to buy them, just laugh

Probably for the same reason Valve isn't developing a Steam Deck 2. Mobile hardware isn't energy efficient enough yet. If you can't promise your handheld can run your new releases, what's the point?

That's what their handheld PC/gamepass machine will be

Improving Win11 experience for handhelds like the Asus Rog Ally and Lenovo Legon Go, which right now is awful given it still behaves like a desktop.

Valve is working on a Deck 2, they were quick to say more is coming, it will just be a long time.

The one flop doomed xbox to irrelevance

Xbox consoles will continue to exist so long as Gamepass exists and Playstation and Nintendo won't allow it on their consoles.
If every Xbox disappeared right this second, all those GP subscribers would go poof too. The Xbox owners would move over to PS5 instead of PC and MS would lose 25 out of 30 million or whatever GP subscribers.

Am I understanding this right?

M$ cancels gaming portable hardware

instead focusing on optimizing w11 for other gaming portables

This would be a good thing. M$ hardware is always shitty (but so is their software, so...)

Valve isn't in the business of selling portable hardware, genius. The reason they made the Steam Deck is to increase the value of Steam and get more people into the ecosystem. They don't give a fuck why you use Steam, they just need you to use it.
Anyway what you're saying is asinine for a different reason. Why would Microsoft randomly offer Valve a cut of their profits? Having the steam store and having all payment processing go through Valve as normal on said Microsoft device is infinitely better for Microsoft compared to having some special snowflake deal where profit is shared with Valve.

I probably would've given a shit about this in 2008.
Seriously, why didn't MS ever at least try to enter the handheld market after Nintendo and Sony? Did they think they were too good for handhelds, well look where they are now on their knees to them.

The new focus of Xbox is gaming on Windows 11.

Haven't they been "focusing" on that for 5+ years now?

i would activate my explosive vest

NOOOOOO!!!!

Wow, well I guess that means I'm 100% done with Xbox then. I don't want anymore home consoles, what stupid decision to cut off your affordable handheld for a $1000+ home console (that will fail) that's only going to be sold on your website. I thought these faggots had some kind of 4D chess going on but no, they're just retarded. Well, now Microsoft is on my shitlist like Sony, I will no longer purchase anything from made by Microsoft including first party games just like how I treat Sony. I'm going full Nintendo now. The rest of these faggots can burn and rot. It will be too late for any of these dumb companies to catch up. Nintendo, indies, and AAs won, it's over. Fuck Microsoft, fuck Xbots, fuck Sony, and fuck Snoy. I'm done. Halo died years ago and I'm no longer wasting my time with it. What a disappointing joke.

That's not a reason to exist, not him but I was willing to stick on this train with the dockable Xbox handheld but with that getting pushed back and probably canceled, I see no reason to buy another Xbox. They really can't break off from copying Sony, Microsoft is pathetic.

They're trying to improve the Windows software handheld experience to stop SteamOS from gaining traction.

it's all just Hegelian dialectic to get pc gamers to accept the mobile gaming devices

Winblows 11 is such complete dogshit.

The article says it’s being delayed because Windows 11 needs to be optimized further for third party handhelds, which is true looking at SteamOS.

How do they even do that when Windows development is buried under some of the most retarded bureaucratic redtape for a software?

Oh no...
Anyway...

Good question

SteamOS being so good is 100% behind this decision, maybe changes are coming to windows

It's damage control after everyone saw that windows runs like shit on x64 and ARM (the performance and app support here it's so bad that it killed qualcomm's attempt to have "macbook killers" with snapdragon x chips). They know that handhelds with windows have a worse battery life and performance than devices with linux (steamos and android) and are making their jeet army try to optimize the OS for cherrypicked titles and benchmarks.

When the PS Vita flopped people thought handhelds were dead,‘only now Sony and Microsoft are coming around to them. It was the Steam Deck that pushed them I think, the Switch could’ve been dismissed as a Nintendo gimmick but people clearly want to expand beyond more than console and even PC

still creating concept art like this gay shit

No one with a brain would even waste energy drawing this.

That just means it's canceled, Microsoft and Sony are some of the stupidest companies on the planet, they should have never gotten involved in gaming.

It’s probably just going to be some xbox branded, pre built, Windows 11 PC that can access game pass and steam. They would be retarded to make another console.

A five second prompt is all it took.

No one asked.

I don't know if my only hope for an alternative to the rubbish Switch 2 and the garbage Steam Deck.

Now, what portable device will I play on? I hate PC gaming, hate Steam, hate the Switch 2, and hate Nintendo.

They're retarded to even still exist in gaming, I should have just stuck with Nintendo. Sega had more respect for their fans. Hope Microsoft gets broken up, the third parties they stole get released, and they're forced to sell all of their game IPs.

25 out of 30 million or whatever

Do you think the next xboner will be more or less successful than the current xboner? What about the one after the next one?
Maintaining all that trash isn't free. Having to buy half the industry to have games for your gamepass isn't free either.

I wasn't replying to a question. I was telling you.

you sound like an apple consoomer

I'm just going Switch 2, there is no alternative. I wish Sega never left hardware, they and Nintendo were the only things great about gaming.

that's why they're putting their games everywhere. sales on steam and playstation are subsidizing gamepass

As an owner of an ROG Ally X rocking Steam OS this is great news. Now I'll be able to dual boot into a windows environment that is actually optimized.

I absolutely refuse to buy a Switch 2, and I also refuse to buy the original Switch.

Any alternative other than the damn Steam Deck?

This will also fail and has shown signs of failing. They no longer have the cards. Microsoft is desperate like Sony to save AAA gaming but all of it goes back to Nintendo. It's over. PC gaming will fail, PlayStation will fail, Xbox has already failed, the future is Nintendo, indies, and AAs. The gaming crash will be incredible.

Honestly for the best. Window 11 needs a lot of work to be efficient on handhelds and it's pathetic that linux emulation runs better than native OS.

can't believe the xsquare got canceled

There is none. Microsoft and Sony are too retarded to make one and Sony stop giving a shit with the PS3. I miss Sega.

What are you smoking, Microsoft's AAA games are the best selling games of the year.

Same. Gaming was more interesting when the only hardware manufacturers were fully vidya companies. Nintendo's the only platform that still makes a lot of games to go with their hardware, and that's just depressing. I'd happily sacrifice Valve, Sony and MS for Sega to return.

Again, no one asked for your opinion.

Doom the Fart Ages sold like shit. The 2030s are looking like a bloodbath for everyone that isn't Nintendo, indies, and AAs. Microsoft has been in console gaming since 2001 yet it still feels like they never made a console before. They truly are incompetent.

no one asked for your opinion

the top 5 of the best selling games on playstation are from Microsoft. You're retarded if you think the biggest games publisher on the planet is doing poorly right now.

I never said you did. I simply gave it to you. Gonna cry?

Oh, youre autistic. Lol.

xbox is dead
at local stores you can see a lot of switch and playstation games and consoles, but there's barely if any xbox games and I'm not even seeing any xbox consoles anymore

What about smartphones and tablets?

I think at this point, all I have left to do is be a smartphone gamer.

You're also autistic, maybe you and this faggot can talk about train engine components.

A refreshed Aerith+ SoC for an enhanced or lower cost LCD model has already shown up in commits, and it also wouldn't be surprising to get a Sephiroth refresh in an updated OLED at some point as well before a next-gen Deck shows up.
That is still probably waiting on a custom SOC made specifically for it, probably using RDNA 4, but AMD hasn't said anything about RDNA 4(+) SOCs yet.

Nothing on NT is native. It runs everything through compatibility layers, and Microsoft hasn't really ever cared about gaming. They had that market by default and had no reason to put any work into it. Valve's work on Gaming on Linux started when a Microsoft rep straight up told Gabe Newell they were moving to End of Life their compatibility platform.
Doesn't help that NT's kernel and user space is fundamentally so slow. Even Microsoft is aware of it now and has multiple internal GNU/Linux based OS projects.

Why do snoys have to make everything homosexual?

I would yahoo search a photo of poop and tell them to eat it lole!

yet it still feels like they never made a console before. They truly are incompetent.

It was over the moment Peter Moore walked out that front door.
Executives are just trained to lie but have no initiative, they copied a bunch of fads, and got their paychecks.

Windows itself is losing to a pro bono OS.

tell microcock to fuck off. what are they going to do? gfwl 2.0? ban steam?
lmao

When was the last fucking time the windows dev team released something or updated the OS that was actually good?

Like I give a shit. Microsoft's crappy strategy, if they even have one, is to rely on others over themselves. Now I understand why Phil was shaking when he saw the PS5 Pro's price, it was because they hope Sony won't price people out of gaming but they will. Everyone but Nintendo will expect you to pay $800+ for gaming hardware, these companies are retarded and will pay for that. AAA gaming is doomed, they all should have listened to Nintendo but they're all just too stupid.

Oh there is someone with a brain working at Microsoft.

holy shit Xbox is fucked
does anyone care about xbone anymore?

Probably

Yup, Peter Moore, Ed Fries, and Seamus Blackley were the architects of Xbox, once they left, Xbox left with them.

This was the only thing keeping me from going full Nintendo, now that it's gone, nothing holding me back now.

see SteamOS MOGGING Windows on handhelds

AIIIIEEEEEE DROP EVERYTHING SAVE ME GATES SAMA FIX WINDOWS RIGHT NOW

Is this idiotic fucking company anthing but reactive outside of Azure?
Actually unreal how incompetent these cucks are.

Decades of monopoly

how is valve running circles around a company multiple times their size

actually flip that
how is microsoft letting a company they can buy multiple times over run circles around them

this isnt fucking apple they bought actiblizz for 80b
they dwarf the entire gaming industry
how is this so hard

Walled garden consoles only existed to start with because they were cheap toys. Then when they got expensive consoles continued to exist because Microsoft used their control over PCs to make gaming on them worse for the benefit of the Xbox, which helped the other consoles too.
The market for cheap toys still exists, but the end of Microsoft's dominance dooms the higher end walled garden platforms.

Even Nintendo may have jumped up market too far. The Switch 2 is positioned at a more expensive price point than some entry level gaming PCs that offer similar advantages. Nintendo should have stayed down in the $149 to $249 market.

It seems like they are, their handheld could have ended the Steam Deck but the Poopjeet in charge is so reactionary that he got scared of the SteamOS that he killed Xbox in the process. This company deserve to die. If a Steam Deck 2 is made with an updated SteamOS, I'm jumping to that, fuck Microsoft, I'm boycotting them and their games like I did Sony.

Xbox having no exclusives is akshually a good thing

ms got spooked by the steamos version of legion go s raping win11

True but in the long run, I believe Nintendo will be fine. They're still behind meaning they'll survive the upcoming collapse.

I thought that was kennan

I wish it was

Realistically, what can they even do to beat SteamOS? Higher framerates, longer battery life, lower price point. Valve has them beat by every metric. I suppose they could ditch the licensing fee to bring the price point down but how are they going to turn a bloated piece of shit like W11 into something as performant as a lightweight Linux build?

Windows 11 is ridiculously bad for gaming. We know this because the moment a bunch of Linux autists properly gutted Windows 10 (and I dont mean toggling shit off, I mean removing it entirely) stability in every single program improved tenfold. And Win11 is just 10 with more telemetry and ads.

Nothing, they offer no reason to get their shit, they're more restrictive and Windows 11 is a pile of shit for gaming. They will try, they will lose, and they will bend over backwards and take it up the ass. Nintendo and Valve won. It'll get a Switch 2 and from there, I'll get a Steam Deck 2. I moved from Sega to Microsoft, I can move from Microsoft to Valve, it's time. What price would the Steam Deck 2 be?

how is valve running circles around a company multiple times their size

Privately owned company

how is microsoft letting a company they can buy multiple times over run circles around them

Founder is retired, entire organization run by jeets

It'll have to run at least Xbox One games without patches.

you wish,

Speaking as an American, we should ban publicly owned companies and only allow for companies to reach a certain size before we say they can no longer grow.

well they're working on optimizing windows 11 for gaming, we'll see what happens because any benefits will be improved performance for normal gaming too.

Valve is privately held, so Microsoft couldn't buy them even if they tried. They actually did try back in in 2012, and Gabe laughed them out of the room. Steam for Linux was officially announced a week later.

As for how this is happening. Microsoft is massive, maintains an entire OS stack in-house, and they have been for 30 years. Now nothing else in the rest of the industry works like Microsoft's platform does, and while that has protected their business desktop revenue, they can't easily adapt to anything else, and they have no business incentive to really make their legacy platform better because they make that money regardless.
Valve on the other hand isn't going it alone. The same things that matter a lot in the Linux dominated and highly competitive High Performance Computing market for instance, tend to matter for PC Gaming, and the entire ecosystem gets network benefits from the way everything works together well. The high performance RadV Vulkan driver for AMD GPUs for instance grew out of a Red Hat / IBM Vulkan compute project. DXVK on the other hand was initially built by one guy who wanted Neir Automata to run better, and it benefited a lot from RadV.
Since everybody's work on Linux benefits everyone else Valve can focus their more limited resources just on the things that really matter to them.

Not the first time this has happened. The open source community also built a better DOS Gaming platform than Microsoft ever did.

Windows 11 PC gaming handhled optimization

Yeah, that's called "Install Arch" and you can already do that on the 'Eck.

MS should lick Gay-Ben's boots and beg him to let them put GoyPass and the X-box store on his storefront and be done with it.

Is it me or is gaming condensing back to what it was in the 90s, Nintendo, PC gaming, indies, and AAs?

Realistically, what can they even do to beat SteamOS?

Coup anti-cheat. Destiny doesn't run on Linux because Bungle's retarded. Same with most other multiplayer titles.

Rumour has it it’s launching with TES6 in 2028 though. And if PS6 is going to be a handheld with comparable specs to the PS5 pro then it might not be able to play newer PC games.

If Valve can work out the Nvidia compatibilty its over for currysoft.

this was literally inevitable i don't know why they won't just fucking lean in on native game pass on handhelds like the deck/ally

Because that would require MS to make a non-UWP/UWA app for GoyPass and their MS Store "exclusives" that they haven't ported to Steam/Win32'ized (Forza Horizon 3, Phantom Dust, Minecraft Redstone, etc.) and they're too PooJet'd to do that.

Microsoft doesn't have the talent or gumption to make hardware. All the hardware they've put out in the last decade has fucking sucked and they don't have what it takes to support it. They know this, they prove it time and again.

that won't work when the appeal of the cleveland steambox is escaping the shitty jeet panopticon subverted by Israel.

Realistically, what can they even do to beat SteamOS?

Long term there is nothing they can do.

On the other hand, they can keep running the delay Linux adoption playbook against SteamOS in the short term and get years of continued dominance by exploiting their pile of cash and legal resources. They've already succeeded in this once by funding a patent troll to kill the OG Steam Controller, and get Dell and the other OEMs to back down from selling Steam Machines.
SteamOS 3 and the Steam Deck are both much more resilient against Microsoft threats, but the current legal climate in the US gives Microsoft major opportunities.

Microsoft

lose home console gaming to Sony

too chicken shit to make their own dockable handheld against Nintendo

losing the OS and PC gaming war to Valve

losing the Cloud gaming war to Nvidia

They truly are hot garbage

They're making sure Windows 11 isn't a massive fucking piece of dog shit for the existing handheld PCs before they go all-in with their own handheld PC (which will have an OS based on W11)

The new focus of Xbox is gaming on Windows 11.

Look the real problem was that games suck and theres tons of tech issues you still havent fixed and its expensive. Windows 11 gaming makes it even more lame. This is basically death blow on already uncool Xbox. I tried to fix it but all your office workers are fucking simps.

As if Nintendo isn't above any of this bullshit either

weeeewwwww

Legion go S is coming now with steam OS.

Rog ally x is also an option.

everything they touch turns to shit, and anything that doesn't, they close down the studio anyway.

bought ze deck and is better than nintendo

Microsoft could literally just release win7 with an up to date kernel and it would be miles ahead of win11 but they won't do that because they need the gigabytes of bloat to keep their legions of jeet devs busy with crap to enshittify.

Be giant ass company

Threatened by a private so much that you cheat them and their products because they are better than you in gaming

Based gaben

Nintendo took a risk and made the Switch, this completely goes over Microsoft's heads, they are truly stupid.

Yup, Hifi Rush is a great example, fucking faggots.

Nobody can criticize Microsoft on its gaming content output right now, with Xbox Game Pass being absolutely on fire, atop dozens of studios churning out high-quality content.

Can anyone explain this? Does Xbox actually have good games now?

Microsoft can be criticize and Game Pass isn't growing. Once next gen rolls around, Game Pass will tank and Valve will take over especially when Steam Deck 2 comes around. It's over, Nintendo and Valve won.

Windows 11 PC gaming handhled optimization

They're not going to strip out the shit that actually matters or make it lightweight enough. They want their spyware OS to remain a spyware OS.

Handheld canceled

Oh no, now I will have to use a

Lenovo Legion Go

ROG Ally

MSI Claw

Steam Deck

Instead.

How will I survive?

I cannot think of any i would like to play.

I already tried 3 by them, all garbage.

I wonder will Nintendo make a Switch 2 Lite and will that be digital-only, I wonder. I wish I would have just jumped for the Switch and Steam Deck and dropped the home consoles sooner, better late than never I guess.

Switch 2 is already winning, Snoy's handheld is next.

Ironically Nintendo going handheld-only with an off-the-shelf chip was one of their safest moves ever. They cut their losses and refocused on their core business in the cheapest way possible.
Of course it did require a vision of how they could change and grow, something Microsoft completely lacks.

They're terrified of SteamOS fucking their already weak toehold on the PC gaming market

That shit is in 2029, given how much it will cost and is somehow meant to play PS5 games, will that thing even release before Sony pulls the plug. They may put more focus on the PS6. Microsoft and Sony should just give up. They already put their games on Switch and Steam, why are they even still making consoles now? I feel like Nintendo and Valve saved gaming.

The Steam Deck only exists because of the Switch but considering the Deck barely sold anything I doubt it caught the interest of Sony and MS.

I was shilling this dockable Xbox handheld for months thinking Microsoft had some actual vision but nope, they really want to sell us a $1000+ Xbox home console with no games expecting companies to just jump to their store. Third parties will leave Microsoft for Valve. Sony is next on the chopping block. America is coming back home to PC.

They should just make Steam machines or some shit like that.

They should give up, it's over, they lost console gaming to Nintendo and more pathetically, Sony when Sony kept fucking up and still are, and they lost PC gaming to Valve. This will be just like what happened after the Windows Phone, Microsoft will kneel and suck cock and eat ass. They'll make less money having to give 30% to everyone like a bitch.

Genius, why make an Xbox version of a game that won't sell if all Xbox portable users do is buy from Valve. Are you dense on purpose? I'll slow it down.

XBOX HANDHELD SOLD AT A LOSS
NO MONEY FROM MICROSOFT STORE
EVERY STEAM PURCHASE IS 0% REVENUE FOR MICROSOFT UNLESS VALVE SHARES THEIR 30% CUT

So that circles back to how much will a for profit Xbox portable will cost if Xbox has zero revenue stream from Steam purchases. IDIOT, I bet you're part of the third worlders who think a PC-Xbox hybrid has any revenue stream when people ignore Microsoft's closed ecosystem. 0 cash from pay for online if people go to Steam. IDIOT.

Xbox inserting itself as a middle man to Valve was always delusional Xbox fanboy cope. And Valve makes profit off their OLED models. Don't post in economic threads, turd world ESL.

Retard. Microsoft is the world's biggest games publisher. What do they get out of it? They sell more copies of their video games that's what.

Yup, you made me believe, man. I tried to give Microsoft props thinking they were smarter than people led on but I was wrong, they're just stupid as everyone says they are. I'm dropping them for Nintendo and Valve. I just can't keep doing this. None of Microsoft's plans will work. They need to completely give up on hardware and stop trying to fight the SteamOS, it's over. The future of console/PC gaming is Nintendo and Valve. Microsoft and Sony need not apply, they are the new Sega

Steam machines won in the end.

Yup, we should have kneeled to the PC kings like the worthless peasants we are.

PC really was the death of gaming. Can't even have handhelds with unique games anymore.

Valve only took a hit on the LCD model at the lowest price point when it was brand new, and only if you included the R&D costs and the cost of building the first production line. OLED was the same loss on paper for a while after they commissioned the new SoC and built the second production line.
Microsoft's rumored ARM Windows Xbox handheld on the other hand would be more costly to them because the hardware would be more custom, they have so little ARM Windows development investment, and they have to maintain all that stack themselves.
We'll know Microsoft's efforts are really over when their well paid allies at Tencent and Epic start making moves to support Steam Deck.

How much will the LCD Steam Deck 2 cost in 2027?

I thought the MS Surface line was ok, even if massively overpriced for a glued-together tablet detachable hybrid.

They lost their damn minds after the Surface 6-7 when they made the Surface laptop though.

I don't understand Microsoft at all, the Xbox One X sold less than the Xbox One S, the Xbox Series X sold less than the Xbox One X, the Xbox Series S is the main reason the Xbox consoles aren't completely dead. Why kill off the Xbox Series S successor while pushing for another Xbox X successor that will fail even harder with a higher price, no games, and a shitty BC that won't even play other games that's locked down with the hope that these other companies would just shove their stores on the Microsoft Store? Is Microsoft ran by idiots?

There probably won't be one. Deck 2 will almost certainly enter at the top of the range like Sephiroth did. Maybe the upcoming Aerith+ refreshed LCD model will still be around then and the Sephiroth OLED will be one model in the middle. Or maybe they'll launch two variants of the Deck 2, and bump the OLED down. Or maybe they'll do both and have a retail-only budget model.
Valve still really wants to get enough production volume and production costs to the point they can put a $399 system on store shelves.

we bought 300 studios churning out shit this means we won

Maybe try making something good first.

Microsoft isn't going to sell "portable Xbox" that doesn't carry over their customers purchased games. A portable Series S is out of the question, look at the Steam Deck run Doom Dark Ages or TES4 Oblivion remake. Naturally that leaves us with Xbox One era games. How do you get those running on a portable? Patch by patch? That's crazy and won't be the complete library.

Think it through man, if your Xbox portable is just a stream machine, you could shit out any $300 device to do cloud gaming. Running natively requires $500+ bucks for just Xbox One level games on a portable. Even more because Microsoft will let people install Steam, they can't charge people for online play. The entire scenario from engineering to profability makes no sense because A) Xbox gave up their exclusives B) They are competing with Valve and Nintendo and OEMs (Rog Ally) at the same time.

What's the purpose of the steam deck? Valve doesnt make any money out of it.

Yup, we should have kneeled

You mean "knelt"

isnt SteamOS like 0.1% of steam players?

Will it use Zen 5 RDNA 3.5+ or UDNA?

Realistically if Xbox portable was sold for profit, it'll cost $700-$800. If they're selling at a loss to be competitive, the best case of $499. That leaves us with the question of what games will it play? If you're an Xbox customer, will all your digital games "just work" out of the box? Let's say that they do get Xbox One games working without patches, that's still cramming a lot of expensive tech. How big is the screen? Native 1080p? OLED? 120hz like Switch 2? Price keeps going up for you and the consumer. And remember you're not making money from people who already bought these games either. And you're not making money from customers who install Steam. Or the customers who just pirate games.

We can all spitball ideas about Amazon or Apple making dedicated gaming handhelds, they have ways of subsidizing the costs to enter the mass market. But if Xbox's plan is to make either a $499 portable that plays some Xbox One games and streams GamePass Series games, what's the point? The Steam Deck looks more compelling and way cheaper.

Steam Deck is about 2%, rest of the Linux user base on Steam is about 3% when correcting for the over count of Chinese net cafe systems. Also important to keep in mind those are users who are solely playing on Deck or other Linux machines. People who dual boot or use Steam on multiple devices are almost always counted on their Windows devices.

yeah, that's how bad windows is for handheld PCs

probably sells a lot of steam games or keeps you tied to steam longer. i have 1 and am using it to emulate ps2 games albeit

I have my money on an RDNA 4+ custom SoC so it will support FSR 4 arriving later rather than sooner. But maybe they'll come up with a different solution for that without hurting performance on a custom RDNA 3+ SoC.
Low-power UDNA SoCs are probably too far into the future.

Plus, the Steam Deck and eventual Deck 2 will have games that would never come to Xbox, Xbox games, PlayStation games, and much more. Nintendo and Valve won so hard by simply being Nintendo and Valve while Microsoft and Sony killed their own identity and are left with none. Microsoft is worse off than Sony or Sega because when Sony dies, they will still have fans like Sega did, Microsoft erodes even their fans.

I am still 100% convinced whatever shit they were talking about making a Fire stickesque streaming stick for $100 that used xCloud and baited people into goypass was the best hardware option Microsoft could have done.

Yes and that is 0.1% too much. Total microshit domination.

I love this fantasy thought bubble but its gonna be mid as fuck and you know it. IF it ever actually releases...

That's because the vast majority is on PC, and SteamOS wasn't really a thing for handheld PCs until very recently, I'm pretty sure no one was counting bazzite either but even that was still niche compared to how much the official SteamOS will be used from now on

A streaming stick would still need hardware to actually run those games somewhere. That may be what Microsoft's ARM Xbox hardware was really all about. The handheld may be gone, but they may still put all that hardware to use in data centers.

Not him but I'm fine with that, let these high-end consoles die in a ditch, we only need Nintendo and Valve. Nintendo and Valve never needed to get with the times, it was always Microsoft and Sony that needed to and they never did, look where they are now.

Never have I seen a company outright antagonize itself as much as Jeetsoft does.

Liek everyone there hates each other and the only thing teams do is sabotage the others.

Fuck Sony. I hate them so much. I had a ds. It was ok. The. I got a psp 1000. Wow. It was perfect and emulated Nintendo games well.
Then the Xperia play comes out along with gaikai and onlive. I was playing batman arkham city on my phone in 2011. And Sony bought up BOTH companies and liquidated them to make their shit ps now service.

The vita? Ha, not even a real handheld. Squandered trash wirh crap games.

Liek everyone there hates each other and the only thing teams do is sabotage the others.

thats because they do lmao

It's like they're made to piss everyone off, I was one of their major defenders but after today's news along with the multiplat move, I just can no longer defend this company, I'm done.

It hurts looking at how far PlayStation and Xbox have fallen, they even made their consoles pointless putting their games on PC through Steam thus playable on the Steam Deck

It is Sony's mistake for following Microsoft up market. Microsoft's ability to sabotage PC gaming to benefit their console was never going to last.
Honestly Sony would be in way better shape today if the PS4 had been PSV + PSV TV. They would have had a gaming platform Sony could have sold in everything from the PSV, to phones, tablets, and smart TVs for years to come.

word cancel doesn't appear once

people believe the clickbait instead

Yup, following Microsoft by making the PS3 as powerful as it was what killed the PlayStation. Gaming is returning to video game companies, Nintendo and Valve.

It's Jez Corden, Microsoft insider, it's real since he works closely with them, it's over.

It's Jez Corden, Microsoft insider, it's real since he works closely with them, it's over.

start developing their own steam deck after seeing all the "buzz" around it

steam deck sales numbers finally revealed, way below what anyone expected due to how hard it's shilled online

microsoft quickly nopes out and cancels their xbox handheld

Lmao

It will be canceled, it's Microsoft, I no longer have trust in them. if it does happen, and that's a big IF, it will be too late. It would be pointless and would cost too much. Microsoft and Sony should just stop trying and just give up.

I hate Microsoft so much

Nice. This is the dumbest move they could have made and ensures the death of windows.

Cheap for them, as in not designing proprietary hardware from the ground up, because it would sell like 1,000 units

I thought that they were investing much more into xCloud/streaming services and getting away from hardware when they said game pass had a great deal of subscriptions. I remember hearing shit about them being embedded into smart TVs with no hardware, but I still think the stick idea was the play. Honestly I think if Steam did something like that it would print money.

word CANCEL doesn't appear once

anon goes sad over hypothetical

Deck 2 blows up because its no longer a fat piece of shit, can play most pc games since it has a docked mode so becomes the default beginners PC in an era of $3000 GPUs, also its actually sold world wide

oh shit time to make an xbox handheld

too late, linux has unstoppable momentum

Every now and then I realise tech CEOs are boomer as fuck and dont actually understand the industries they operate in

no games.... on the go!

Because despite what the dalits are telling you Win11 is a piece of hot dogshit.

If I was microsoft id be pumping hundreds of millions into R&D on the best handheld they can build and I would be shitting them out at a loss just to stop the deck from selling. 10% of their revenue and 25 billion dollars a year is going up in flames if they dont stop valve.

Microsoft still wants to build its own Xbox handheld in the future, but Microsoft has decided to prioritize its teams to improve Windows 11 gaming performance, specifically for devices like the ASUS partner device "Project Kennan." It's possible that the existential threat from SteamOS, which on paper delivers better gaming performance than Windows 11 itself, has informed these decisions. Our sources have indicated to us that Microsoft is still deeply investing in developing its own Xbox gaming handheld technology in the future, but it was announced internally today that the priorities are moving more deeply towards third-party OEM handhelds in the interim.

Where does it say it's cancelled? It says the complete opposite

They're too retarded to beat Sony at home consoles and you think Microsoft can challenge Steam? It's actually unreal how fucking incompetent the xbox division is lmao

DXVK on the other hand was initially built by one guy who wanted Neir Automata to run better

Based 2B enjoyer made gaming on Linux possible

How does Windows 11 benefit the industry.

By not being garbage like Linux

The steam machine came out because valve were worried that Microsoft will block steam on windows or some dumb shit like that and valve thought they can take on the xbox. In the end the steam machine sold like shit and got canned within a couple of years. Meanwhile xbox was still selling millions compared to it. You overestimate valve and underestimate xbox. A windows handheld that actually functions properly will do infinitely better than some Linux based shit that can't natively run games which aren't on steam.

Time for Metro 2.0 LETS GO.

When the PS Vita flopped people thought handhelds were dead

That and fucking $100 8GB memory cards when the 3DS had 16GB for $20.

This video is essentially most industries right now but it's especially true for gaming since only a few companies are relevant after all the industry buyouts and consolidation:
youtube.com/watch?v=NlBjNmXvqIM

Nearly every company is getting fucked over by the business degrees running them now. Jim Ryan is an amazing recent example and Furukawa for Nintendo will probably end up destroying the company in the same way. Iwata was great because he was a product guy, not a marketing guy. You need product guys running companies like Gaben and Steam..

Oh no!

Anyway...

What makes W11 not garbage? Why does it have worse performance with games?

Bloat.
Not stable.

Not designed for low power handheld devices. Whereas Steam OS is a custom Arch fork iirc specifically for handhelds. In theory MS can just make a lightweight Win11 without all the extra stuff running in the background that is usually required for desktop PCs. That's probably what they'll end up doing in the long term. With a sprinkle of AI of course.

No. Steam Machines and SteamOS happened because a Microsoft executive had a meeting with Gabe Newell, where Microsoft laid out their plans for the future of Windows. Those plans for the future of Windows have not changed. We are living with the results of Microsoft's decreasing their investment in PC gaming.
The first generation Steam Machines went away because Microsoft funded a patent troll to make them too risky for OEMs to consider selling. The third-generation Steam Machine, the Deck happened because Microsoft no longer had any way to stop it.

A windows handheld that actually functions properly

If Microsoft could have actually done that, they would have 20 years ago. Linux handhelds are the majority of the end-user computing market now.

Linux can't natively run games

Neither can NT, and Microsoft are no longer interested in maintaining their compatibility layer.

Depends on how they price and market it. Microsoft has had more failures than not when it comes to hardware. The Surface line was scaled back hard, Microsoft Phones running Windows flopped hard, and Zunes went from being toe-to-toe with iPods to being discontinued within a decade. Current SteamOS is also vastly different than what the Steam Boxes had 10 years ago, and it currently blows the fuck out of Windows 10/11 on these handheld devices. Microsoft has to step up their game and actually hire competent White/Asian programmers in order to catch up.

decreasing their investment in PC gaming

Literally making an xbox OS for handhelds

Literally pushing Xbox gamebar as standard

Literally pushing Xbox app as standard

continued investment and development into D3D as it continues to be the standard API for PC gaming across the board

Literally turning the next xbox into a hybrid PC according to every rumor so far

Why would they have done that 20 years ago when handheld PCs have only really been a mainstream thing for a couple of years? And you can run pretty much every game ever made on windows via one method or another. You can't even play most current gen MP games on Linux because of anti cheat. Valve will never and can never compete with Microsoft or xbox.

It does. I used to follow so much on Playstation, keeping up with all their current events and now it's embarassing to say I like them, or Microsoft.

Literally making an xbox OS for handhelds

Until proven otherwise "Xbox" implies it will be a walled garden. AKA not a PC as we know it. Microsoft's plan is to end support for their mainstream open platform, and shift to a more 90s era approach where they have a good but high upfront cost Professional OS with no gaming capability, and a Mainstream OS where Microsoft extracts value from the user in every possible way.

Microsoft are not turning Xbox into a PC. They are attempting to restrict the PC until it becomes an Xbox.
As you say the only thing blocking Linux in multiplayer games is Microsoft's scheme to allow NT Kernel Rootkits. That scheme is not likely to succeed long term since the Rootkit does nothing to prevent cheating and merely compromises true platform security.

when handheld PCs have only really been a mainstream thing for a couple of years?

Handheld PCs have been a thing for decades. Microsoft's platform has always been too heavy to work on them. I know you want to rip on Linux and BSD distributions for those low power devices, but they're limited in the way they are for sensible reasons.
Microsoft's new OS, if it is actually going to finally solve Microsoft's bloat problems, is going to have to make the same sort of compromises.

Maybe they can make a normal lightweight ver of W11 without all the enshitification while they're at it.

I liked my windows phone
these retards can eat a turd

They do its called LTSC

Just focus on XCloud so we can play on iPhone / Android devices without forking over hundreds of dollars.

Microsoft can keep games like WoW, COD, Minecraft, Bethesda RPGs, Diablo, OW, and more off of steam OS.

A lot of indie games already skip steam OS so good luck to valve.

Releases Windows Gaming OS

"To optimize the OS, we have locked it so that you can only games from the Windows store"

"It's literally impossible for us to enable third party stores"

Someone installs Steam 2 days later after editing an ini file.

W11 LTSC uses 4 times the resources W10 LTSC does.
Maybe LTSC IoT but there still the UI being shit problem.

Is Steam Deck ever gonna be available in retail? I'm not so keen on using my credit card online that often.

handhelds are for retarded manchildren

Scalpers and game resellers will throw a fit if they do.

This isn't about the xbox division anymore, its the windows division vs linux. If windows goes so does their office division which is an even larger fuck up

masculinity so fragile he doesn't let his bros grab his ass and cum inside him as a joke

ngmi

Someone installs Steam 2 days later after editing an ini file.

Unlikely because these systems are either going to see the introduction of a new API to replace win32, or use an all new containerized win32 solution, or they'll be ARM.
If they use a new API, sure Steam might get ported, but none of the games will work, unless Valve gets Proton working. Which they might, supposedly using Proton everywhere is Valve's ultimate goal, but Proton is still very RadV dependent and RadV is Linux exclusive.
If they're using a container solution, it may be the same deal, Valve will just roll their own container and be able to almost entirely ignore Microsoft. But Microsoft will have every tool available to degrade the performance of Steam, and GPU vendor drivers won't be available.
If its an ARM system, it would be the same deal as MacOS. Sure you can install Steam, but your games will run like crap because they will actually be using an emulator.

I got some bad news for you....
Most credit card hacks happen at IRL location with shit security at their real location.
But I don't blame you.
If IRL is all you will use at, then I'm afraid answer is no.
If you are willing to buy steam cards at a retail store then sort of... you can buy it with the steam card money off steam.
If you use Amazon and feel safe using that.... they sell steam decks too
I am a fan of the legion go as well but I own 1 deck and 1 windows version of a deck

Anon, PC parts got far more expensive since covid, and AI shit ensure that companies never going make cheap GPUs again.

You're getting your hopes up too much for this company. I gave up on them, I can't wait any longer for them.

yes BUT the moment they get a whiff of competition they will do everything they can to snuff it out, you can't let a tumor grow, remember, Extend, embrace, Extinguish

Clearly, they jump into an ocean and expect the fishes to take the bait.

Not at $800+.

Gaming PCs are cheaper than ever, and cheap systems don't use discrete GPUs. AI systems are a lot more expensive because of the memory requirements.

Microsoft can but they won't, they want the money and the last time they believe they could challenge Valve with their Windows/Microsoft Store, Valve's Steam Store killed them. Valve killed MS so hard they came running to put their games on Steam just to sale them.

Anon says it's cancelled

Tweet and article says the project is on hold

So this is the level of reading comprehension that the average Snoy has

ACK

That's the great thing about Valve's strategy. One in twenty paying customers of Steam now run GNU/Linux based systems exclusively. Those users get the best win32 implementation for gaming (Embrace). As the number of users running Valve's win32 compatibility layer approaches one in ten, Valve gets the opportunity to add their own gaming-focused features to win32 (Extend). The more games that are able to take advantage of Valve's extensions, the more degraded the experience will be with the abandoned compatibility layer NT uses to run games, and that will lead to a more rapid collapse of users still running legacy platforms (Extinguish).
Valve is running Microsoft's own playbook back at them and it is hilarious. There's nothing Microsoft can do about it either because their platform is fundamentally too slow, and all their win32 compatibility layer devs have long since retired which is why Microsoft wanted to move on in the first place.

Lol good. Microsoft can only copy, not create

God, Microsoft is so fucked.

Nintendo to Sony

Valve to Microsoft

You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me.

....he means cash anon. Fuckin cold hard dick in your ass CASHHHHHHH

I never had high hopes, but that also means I don't go crazy over anything

windows performs better at spiderman 2, so it isn't a win

they just need to optimize it more for shitty hardware (handhelds)

windows will ALWAYS be better than linux (steamOS copy/paste)

Our sources say this article is legit bros

Gaming PCs are cheaper than ever

Yeah, in your head. But I already know you're going to die on this hill, just telling you that you're living in your head making these statements. The average cost of PCs are disproportionately affected by Crypto, post COVID, and 8GB VRAM rendering many as ticking e-waste. But you'll deny it and say something like $999 PC with 8GB VRAM is owning the $450 PS5 and Switch 2.

trusting Microsoft to not shitcan it when the Poopjeet in charge is known for killing hardware to make a quick buck

Anyone think Valve will launch the Steam Deck 2 in like 2027 or 2028 with custom Zen RDNA 4 and this time have it sold to retailers while they subsidize it using the Steam Store and having massive marketing campaigns for it?

Go into best buy

Valve dedicated section

All employees wear black shirts with logo it

Cutout of a giant steam deck that you can take pictures in

all three types of steamdecks 2 lined up alongside deckerds and vives

It would be glorious and it would give me a reason to leave the house

My prediction is once Microsoft and Sony stop making hardware completely, gaming will go back to where it was in the 90s and thanks to Valve and Nintendo, we'll see more freedom in games. Sony and Microsoft can no longer sell their games as the must play experience because now they actually have to put in the work to compete with many other games as Steam is not theirs. They can't even compete with Nintendo on their own platform since Nintendo first parties will crush them. It's over. If Valve sells and markets the Steam Deck 2 like how console manufacturers do their consoles, it's truly over for Sony and Microsoft.

I would buy both that and a Switch 2 and just go nuts playing them both. Gaming will truly be healed and it's funny that it would take Sony and Microsoft as hardware manufacturers to do it.

It'll be pretty pricey. Chinkhelds are improving in specs but they're also getting expensive as fuck compared to the $30 Miyoo's back in the day. Not to mention tariffs will still be in effect. Also, the Steam Deck 1 is already subsidized by the Steam Store.

Love my 'eck OLED.

Yeah it didn't make sense they let that 3rd party handheld use their brand just to make their own a year later, confusing asf. Starting to feel bad for Phil, he's obviously getting fucked over by that pajeet

Gaem?

Sinisistar 2.

This. Microsoft is so desperate and has zero business sense when it comes to anything. They're only alive because the government is run by retards that give money to Microsoft. Aside from Windows, every consumer product they ever made ended up a failure.

Time for me to play hard.

lol I just remembered Mixer. Microsofts laughable attempt at competing with Twitch. Seriously if it wasn't for the government they'd be out of business a long time ago.

Selling a handheld without exclusives

I cannot remember the last handheld to be its own console and not just a portable TV one

Bro that game is full of guro

It's Jez Corden, Microsoft insider, it's real since he works closely with them, it's over.

all his leaks were proven wrong. First he said nothing will come to playstation, then he said that forza, halo, gears won't come to playstation. He's just stupid microsoft shill

Wouldn't Valve just subsidize it again with the Steam Store?

I'll deal. Hard.

His twitter shit is speculation, his articles are actual leaks, it's over.

Xbox Handheld is Cancelled

Shill the rumours of a handheld

get the handful of retards left giving attention and having hope for Xbox hyped

Cancel it just when the prospect was about to gain traction (maybe)

LOL LMAO. Maybe because Steam released SteamOS? This shit only saving grace was Steam support, it's that bad; MS/Xbox NEED Steam to look attractive not the other way around

Focus on Windows gaming

As they should. Some common sense from Microsoft?! Rare. Now they should axe Xbox entirely and close the console division and just be full publisher and return to PC

I think people are misunderstanding what (I assume) that anon's question is:

How is "focus on improving W11 for handhelds" different from "work on xbox handheld"? What would be different in a hypotethical Xbox handheld from say an Asus Ally 2 that has a more streamlined gaming focus OS when the Xbox OS is already a streamlined gaming focused version of Windows?

I wish any major company would release a $50 ARM thing you get off aliexpress. Just because it would cause a ton of gamedevs to make handheld games that I can then emulate on my phone.

I AM SINISTAR

Xbox was the only thing they could use to kill the Steam Deck, they are fucked. Valve already making the SteamOS's updates like a consoles, Steam Deck 2 will have significantly improved optimization probably console-level, probably even sold everywhere, SteamOS will be on more devices than Windows 11 slop, everyone will just use the Steam Store helping Valve subsidize their hardware. Microsoft killed the only thing that could stop Valve's dominance, the future is them giving up and going full third party on Steam, same fate as Sony. What a joke. Doesn't help that Valve's own handheld and OEMs will always be cheaper than Microsoft's they are done.

westoids still in denial trying to delude themselves from Nintendo having massive success putting them all to shame

It feels like it's 2007 all over again... anon, it was Switch; they were all conditioned by its success

Microsoft's AAA games are the best selling games of the year

3 million players =/= 3 million units sold

This won't happen. Despite the monopoly Valve has in PC that only goes as far as gaming goes and there aren't enough Valve drones to make a dent over MS's monopoly on PC as a whole with Windows. For better or worse, when normies don't even care enough to format their computer to get rid of windows that monopoly will remain intact.

Well yeah, that's the whole point of the Steam Deck and SteamOS, to get that juicy Steam Store 30% cut. The thing is that they have to balance between people actually buying games for their Steam Deck specifically. The only reason why the Deck's specs and price point can BTFO all the other handhelds is because they're betting on people buying more Steam games specifically because of their Deck. If everybody buys a Deck just to play pirated or emulated games on it, then every Deck will be a profit loss to them. It's exactly the same as how Sony and Microsoft can sell consoles at a loss. It's a loss leader.

The problem is that if data shows that Deck users overwhelmingly used it to just play pirated or emulated games then they'll have to price the Deck 2 at a higher price point to offset the hardware and distribution costs. SteamOS on other handhelds might be good enough to do offset it as well since I'm assuming Valve isn't paying much money to Lenovo or MSI or ASUS to put SteamOS on their handhelds.

Xbox was the only thing they could use to kill the Steam Deck

And that didn't have much ground to begin with; at the very end Valve has their audience that cares about it, Xbox at best has people using GP while saying "meh" about Xbox as a whole.

I'd say Sony has a chance for a comeback; this period of renewall with new CEO after the PS5 western retard should be the time when they should be course correcting. If not = DOOMED

Damn, Valve may have to do some of the things Nintendo does on the Steam Deck 2 to stop the pirating and emulations and get the full sales.

Stop noticing things that Pcbros have enabled and won't resist to face when the inminent time comes

Microsoft is truly sad, Sega had an audience, Nintendo has an audience, Sony has an audience, and Valve has an audience. Every time Microsoft has and audience they stab them in the back and spit in their face. Microsoft now has no audience and all of their gaming plans will fail. They're relying on Sony to save their gaming business but when the PS6 is being sold at like $900+, Microsoft is fucked and can no longer rely on them. Nintendo fans will just buy Nintendo games, they'll be stuck with Steam and would have to hope that people are interested and not getting other games because Steam has a lot of games. Microsoft has got to be the stupidest company on the planet.

Microjeets won't be able to code a working sleep function. They've had more than a decade to do it.

Good thing I am not a manchild so I don't give a fuck about handhelds.

Microsoft has got to be the stupidest company on the planet.

how did they become so fucking rich then
im not shilling for them, im genuinely curious

tranime

Pot calling the kettle black

Thats essentially what this would be, but for windows 11 + some extra nonsense just because its microsoft.

using the word "tranime"

Subhuman with a damaged amygdala.

Sure

Early on they went for market share in the OS space which basically let them do whatever they wanted once other OSes died off.

Then once they got into the cloud computing shit, it was a licence to print money.

Everything else they do can lose money forever and it would never matter. I mean that sector of the company will look bad to investors, but eventually they simply stop caring since the other things microsoft does makes the real money.

They're going to make emulators(I'm tech retarded so I dunno what they actually have to do) so you can download their console games onto a machine running windows instead of creating hardware to run the console games. This was what I've been hoping for, because they shit the bed so hard it was unclear they were going to give the people who've built digital libraries on their platforms a way to play them in the future that isn't streaming.

The issue with emulation is that it often takes multitudes more computing power than the original hardware because emulating it in real time can be difficult if the architecture is different enough.

It is possible, but it would take a ton of effort and even then the end results might still be subpar on most machines.

And as they're already in the cloud buisness, its easier to just have a room full of xboxes crammed into server racks piping the video signal to you.

Same reason why so many games from xbox and 360 weren't backwards compatable on newer systems, they all needed a patch for each and every one. Which for a lot of games wasn't worth doing because the developer wasn't going to be making any new money off it (unless they decided it was worth patching to sell digitally)

Microsoft's cloud services (Azure) makes 30 billion USD in pure profit a year. It makes in 1 year what Nintendo makes in profit in 10. They also own most business' computers globally and those companies all pay subscriptions to the Office Suite.

Valve can sell a Steam Deck 2 in 2028 directly to consumers for just $500, just $50 more expensive than the Switch 2 using custom Zen 5 UDNA. It's over. Even if Microsoft's in-house handheld were to happen in the 2030s that would be too late, and it would cost at least $800 or more if it's like the Switch. Sony's handheld in 2029 will also cost way more than Valve's probably $700. Valve and Nintendo are going to both save and fix the game industry from the cancers that are Microsoft and Sony who helped ruin gaming.

Honestly probably a smarter idea to just leverage Windows or the Xbox ecosystem or whatever they want to do like what they're doing with ASUS rather than try to shit out some new hardware themselves.

Nobody is going to be able to fight in Nintendo's weight class. Game pass is the smart angle and they should keep pushing that to as many places as possible.

microsoft has an audience

gets an eviction note

the deserve it for enabling xbl and making paid online a thing tbqh

have ally

have gamepass

boot up gamepass

lol there is an update

donwload update, takes forever to install

start gamepass again

you need update

opens windows store, no update

reboot ally

installs windows update

reboots 3 times

log in windows

open gamepass

play game

60% battery lost during the process

Yeah because as is its grim

how did they become so fucking rich then

By being a tech company, retard. Also, shady shit like selling your data and faulty software

I just read news that NVIDIA became the most "valuable" company (by market cap of course) and there's people genuinely asking "how? graphics cards can't be worth that much?"
It really is crazy how innocent some people are.

Can these retards not unify the Xbox and Windows teams properly?

Nintendo is just as bad as Sony and MS at this point. Nothing that remains in close proximity to Microsoft survives without being warped into some money grubbing monster

AI.

Video games are irrelevant.

Didn't it leak that the Steam Deck 2 using Aerith Plus (custom Zen 5 RDNA 3.5) coming as soon as next year?

They're fine, they're still above MS and Sony, those two are just cancer.

no game

Sign up for Privacy.com and use one of their temporary generated credit cards.

They are going to make their own steam deck since the future will eventually be all games playable on their steam deck clone with limitations being put so that they can have exclusives as they phase out consoles

You can't unify water and oil without commitment.

Aerith plus

While SOC indeed appeared
A) Valve denied that it's for them
B) Claim that it's RDNA 3.5 + Zen 5 comes from Wccftech, who in turn speculate that it's because SOC uses fast memory.

Wccftech

Looks kinda stupid.
Imagine having that thing on your lap and trying to see from that tiny screen

Until Windows 11 has a response to Steam's Game Mode, then it's not a viable gaming OS.
You cannot play certain games on 16GB handhelds easily, without game mode

Wow thank you friendly Sony representative, you convinced me to not buy a new Xbox either.

Aerith+ is like 15% more performant than the original Deck APU, they aren't going to release a Deck 2 with that shit.

t. fucking idiot

Obviously it's some random Indian's 3D mockup they got from a quick google images search.

Not really, they've evolved into some disgusting combination of apple and Disney. Their potential for cancerous influence on the game industry is latent but massive. I have just come to the conclusion that all 3 have lost any connection they had to their original missions, they are all run by business majors and need to be shut down before they fuck up the industry any further.

If we can finally get Windows to actually sleep properly in the middle of a game even on a desktop I'd be happy. Don't give a fuck about handheld. I don't want a game to glitch the fuck out when resuming from sleep.

So, my guess is 2028 Zen 5 UDNA, that would give them the true next generational leap that they want for a Steam Deck 2.

Clearly Microsoft now has an army of jeets working on this problem
That probably means it will never happen though

Original Xbox had a vision for what it wanted to be. The only reason the Xbox project got off the ground though was because Microsoft wanted their system to be PlayStation. Once those early Xbox guys moved on that unique vision left and the guys that just wanted to be PlayStation took over. So now Xbox is basically just a PlayStation with worse 3rd-party support. You can even see this mentality in their plans for next gen. They lucked into a niche with Series S, its sales saved the gen from being a Dreamcast-level failure (sales perspective) and it outsold Series X 3:1. What do Microsoft want to follow that up with though? Series X2, because they want to chase PS6 instead of building their own audience from their niche.

Except the next machine has been confirmed to be a PC hybrid for ages. It will be a subsidised affordable gaming PC with Xbox backwards compatibility. It will probably just run PC versions of new games and Microsoft will require developers to certify that their games run at a certain quality on the new Xbox.
Maybe they will even release two SKUs like this gen, and on the cheaper one games must run at least at 1080p30 and on the more expensive one at 1440p60, or something like that.

What do Microsoft want to follow that up with though? Series X2, because they want to chase PS6 instead of building their own audience from their niche.

I will never understand this, goddammit, what the absolute fuck?
Why the flying fuck would you kill your Series S successor, your saving grace for a fucking Series X successor? I don't even know how to respond, anger or just bursting out in laughter over the sheer stupidity of it all.

That poster is wrong. See

subsidised affordable

That's impossible now, Microsoft will make sure you spend that $1000+ on this and they will only sell it on their online store. Microsoft, currently, is that stupid. Allowing third party stores on your console while being fully Windows based and using Zen 5 UDNA and it's not low-powered, that will cost far more than any console ever released.

Maybe they will even release two SKUs like this gen, and on the cheaper one games must run at least at 1080p30 and on the more expensive one at 1440p60, or something like that.

The dockable handheld WAS the cheaper SKU. These bastards are more crazy than even Sony. Fuck Phil for complaining about Sony's $700 PS5 Pro and fuck that asshole Satya.

and they will only sell it on their online store.

be me

burgergyro in southern greece

order shit from amazon.de

half the time shit comes okay

other half you track the packages arriving in athens

queue up two months of out for delivery, address doesn't exist and out for deliver business closed down

I don't fucking live in athens

these fucking retards are literally only reading the first line of the address

have to send message to sellers asking them to tell their delivery company to read the whole address

No thanks, Gates, I'll pass and I don't think the transport and mail systems here are unique in their shittiness.

The dockable handheld WAS the cheaper SKU

Pic related
Also even if the X successor will cost $1200 then an equivalent PC would surely cost at least $2000, at least on release.

I'm starting to think you're a samefag responding to yourself, why would you believe all the bullshit that anon just makes up and then get mad over it? It's bullshit.

I'll just get a Switch 2 Lite in 2027 and then a Steam Deck 2 in 2028. Why so long for the Switch 2, lower price, won't be as big, and it's just a handheld, none of the gimmicks. Longer lasting battery too by then. Plus, the library will be massive by then. Microsoft and Sony handed Nintendo and Valve the victory.

subsidised affordable gaming PC

They can't really do that without locking it down to their own storefront. They'd also be missing out on online subscription revenue (billions of dollars) if they don't lock it down. If Microsoft really wanted to focus on PC they'd do better by not making hardware at all and building their games for a standard level of hardware. Basically an "Xbox Compatible" sticker manufacturers could place on their systems if they match or exceed target specs. Microsoft have proven themselves retarded though and watching them leak money on Xbox would be funny.

That's still too much money for a brick that only plays games. At least the 2K PC can do more than just game plus, I got more cheaper options with PCs over whatever the living fuck Microsoft is doing.

Of course it will be locked to the storefront that's why it will be subsidised. Most people aren't piratefags so it would be a really sweet deal to get a performance gaming machine at half the price of an off the shelf gaming PC.

At that point you've made a console.

I'm just an anon who likes seizing opportunities to complain about the fucking mail here, anon. The transportation industry in Greece was protected for a long time, meaning there were blocks set up to prevent new competition from entering and the result is it's fucking shit while also being expensive as fuck. Something can take two days to get from Northern Europe to Athens but two months to make it like 300 kms down here.

Oh and to answer your question it's because I don't have any trouble believing microsoft's game's division will make retarded decisions.

Question, it's rumored to be locked down but can access third party storefronts like Steam, Epic, etc. in the Microsoft Store if some of those companies, like Valve, agree to wanting their store on there. Will this bump up the price considerably since it's no longer Xbox only?

Not really, even Series X isn't exactly using DirectX12, it's a custom API, and has lots of custom components with its own APIs like their data streaming shit. This PC Xbox would not require any extra effort from developers beyond making their normal PC version except running a benchmark to ensure it performs at a given level on the PC Xbox.

seeThis is for you too, it'll also have software emulated BC.

That's all speculation at the moment. If they allow third party stores there could be a million options how they recover money. It could even require an annual subscription to access the third party stores.

Not him, it's rumored to have locked specs despite using Win32 dev environment.

Okay? That doesn't make it a non-PC console. It would still be a locked down PC and not a console in the traditional sense.

I don't even know how this is going to work and given the tariffs and Satya keen on making Xbox home consoles expensive, I can see this console being very expensive especially with custom Zen 5 UDNA in 2027.

lmfao

It's impossible to create a functional sleep/hibernate when the government-mandated spy network must work 24/7, please understand.

Yes, we will see. I'm very interested anyway, because I bought my Series X for $480 at a time when an equivalent gaming PC would have cost $1200. And an equivalent one would still cost around $900 even today if you're buying everything from scratch. So if I could get a machine that performed like a $2k PC but for $1.2k instead, I'd be interested.

$1.2k for a home console

Yeah, it's over

And an equivalent one would still cost around $900 even today if you're buying everything from scratch.

What a lie lol

It's true. From scratch means from scratch. You have to buy the tower, a PSU, motherboard, NVMe, RAM, CPU, and a GPU. I don't have any of that so I'd have to buy all of that if I wanted a gaming PC.

dude microsoft literally participate in wars for US government

People will still view that as a console. Running PC game versions does help close a gap Xbox has always struggled with but it doesn't give them anything unique over PlayStation because PlayStation already gets most new releases. Interesting idea at least.

I bought it all from scratch in 2023 and it came out to be $400 in total. I bought every individual part used. My gpu was a 6700xt which is stronger than the series x. A good rule of thumb is to take the cost of the gpu and multiply it by 2, that should be the upper limit of what your build costs

It will kill their party support. Also, without Game Pass Core, Game Pass Standard, and online paywalls, I don't know how they'll subsidize this let alone how much they are willing to subsidize it given how much they're asking. Releasing a year before the PS6 won't yield the same results the 360 did. Sony and Microsoft seem to be trapped in their own bubble with no escape. They're like the failing AAA industry.

Even used that's extremely difficult to believe unless you lucked out and some poor fuck sold their shit to you for way under market value because they needed money quick. And anyway you can't compare buying used to buying new.

*third

Running Windows games should increase 3rd-party support because almost everything has a PC port now.

MS in the 90s and even the 2000s is a completely different company from this bullshit.

And anyway you can't compare buying used to buying new.

Right because only retards buy new

MS just has to release an Xbox PC that runs snoyslop but undercuts the PS6 in price. That's it.

Enjoy your hidden hardware failures and no warranty.

Everything else they do can lose money forever and it would never matter

That's the shitty thing about tech companies like MS and Amazon and Google, they lucked in early so they could keep making garbage products nobody buys until the end of time and still not go bankrupt. They don't have to learn from any of their mistakes or compete in any meaningful way.

Why bother when everyone will just be on Steam? If they couldn't get third parties on that store all this time, why would that change now?

I don't even know if they can do that for what they're asking for. It's either going to be the same price, $100 more or $200 more.

I already sold the entire setup in late 2024 as a prebuilt. Made a small profit

scalper profiting off his fellow man fallen on hard times

Yeah we already know you're scum.

fellow man

Tranny jew

Because Proton still relies on Win32 and DirectX which is what the majority of games are using. And until their Linux runtime solutions are up to par where developers are willing to use it over that, Microsoft will still have something as long as they keep supporting it which there is no reason for Microsoft themselves not to. And look at it this way. They still are ahead of the biggest tech companies in the gaming space by having a modicum of an in with PC gaming and owning mobile gaming by virtue of owning King. It really depends though on what Satya Nadella thinks about this and what he would want to do about Windows. I don't frankly think he cares about Windows as a platform but I don't know if that is the case when it comes to its gaming prowess so we'll see if he'll finally fund something to improve Windows and make it not shit. All the background stuff they have added in the latest Windows have now affected Windows running games natively to the point that the translation of it on Linux with Prtoton makes it run at equivalent or faster speeds 80-90% of the time. It's a massive oversight on Microsoft's part if they plan to keep Windows relevant in any way or if they want it to rot and die because this is how it will happen for one of the biggest reasons to keep a Windows PC.

He cares, that's why he killed the old console. Phil on Polygon said that the old subsidized model can no longer work. Having third party stores means revenue not coming to their platform, no online paywall means raising the price of Game Pass, custom Zen 5 UDNA will significantly raise the price, more will be added if this thing comes with Sebile. This will also have Xbox Cloud Gaming on it so another raise in price. They will subsidize very little and shift the cost to the consumer. This won't be $800 or $900, this may be pushing over $1000. With Zen 6 UDNA, Sony will continue to follow the old model but can at least get it down to at least $900, $800 if lucky, of course, that's still way too much. This will not work, Nintendo and Valve won. If they didn't exist, Sony and Microsoft would be fighting each other on how much they can make gaming unaffordable.

If you have xbox cloud gaming on it you can sell a potato tablet for $100 and turn a profit if the normoids fall for it. Cloud gaming can run on any device, all you need is an internet connection and a display

Who the hell even wants cloud gaming over native gaming? All of Microsoft's strategies are shit. They clearly don't have any and are just throwing darts at a target to see what sticks but all of them are missing.

Who the hell even wants cloud gaming over native gaming?

It's the same as console gamer mentality. They are poor so they pay $50 a month or whatever for online because they can't afford a gpu or dont know how to hook it up

i actually don't want microsoft back into full pc market, i don't want gfwl2
the microsoft store is already a nightmare to use, it's insane how fucking bad that piece of shit is

I would just get a Switch 2 along with wait a year after the Nextbox releases and get the Steam Deck 2. Waste of money to just keep giving money to Microsoft when Xbox is dead.

Next month:

The series X successor has been sidelined

We can only hope

If your store has momentum, you can still subsidize to some extent as we see with the Steam Deck. They didn't lose money on it but it was probably either zero or very small profit for what Valve was selling it for. The problem is Microsoft can't count on that not being Steam so their hardware will need to be more expensive. They would need to nail Windows and making it good to have a handheld worth using and as this thread and recent reviews have showed, it is not up to the task which is why the hardware is getting sidelined and my guess is that there is probably some team inside Microsoft internally trying to desperately find a way to justify it.

Yeah I'd get a vita or a chink handheld

Of all the ways for Xbox to go down, this is the most pathetic. In retrospect, it would have been better if the Xbone really did kill it. Microsoft can't rely on Sony, the PS6 will either be $800+ or $1000+ depending on tariffs and the PS handheld will be $600+ or $800+ depending on tariffs. Microsoft and Sony will just have to fully go third party and release their games on the Switch 2 and Steam Store while verifying their games for the Deck 2.

It's either that or nothing. Most PC users have PCs weaker than the Xbone and PS4.

How to calculate that? Arent most computers in circulation chromebooks and shitty dell laptops?

Windows 7 maybe, Windows XP objectively

I don't know how Valve does it but they do it.

Isn't that one of those technicality gotchas like "99% of all computers run Linux because my fridge and my oven and my digital watch are technically computers running arm embedded linux"

They send out surveys pretty frequently. They ask you and if you agree it goes and grabs your system specs. I dunno exactly what they do, I only can check to see if they're plugged in and google problems I have and that maxes out my computer knowledge.

how is microsoft letting a company they can buy multiple times over run circles around them

I have only ever had the pleasure of working for a fucking BIG company once. Every single thing under the sun takes a long time because everything needs to pass through several people to get resolved and every single person is on coffee break at the same time all day.

Got a laptop mailed to my jobsite that required several pieces of software to be able to function at my job

none of it was on there

due to the obscene restrictions placed on the laptop i wasnt able to just download whatever software or copy it from the person i was replacing

put in a ticket to tech support

copy/paste response that literally didnt adress what i NEEDED in the slightest

ticket closed

go to actual high high up manager and go: I am unable to fucking do work

ok put in a ticket

repeat

just end up using the laptop from the guy im replacing

get weekly emails about how they need to decomission that laptop and to mail it back

"i cant. Please install the software and data onto my computer"

....

please saar return old computer

worked there for 9 months and never got my computer functional

Compared to any other company ive been with. Ive only ever worked places that staffed less than 10 people.

hey bossman, my soldering iron tip is corroded to shit and were out in the parts room

oh man that sucks. alright do paperwork today if you have any or see if you can help Daron inventory in the parts room, well get some overnighted. Any specific one you really like?

I cannot fucking imagine what its like trying to get something done at microsoft.

Nvidia already has drivers for Linux and 99,9% of your steam library should work
I switched to Linux last year l

Microsoft is too scatterbrained to do anything competent these days.

My ROG Ally X absolutely rapes the Steam Deck even in 1080p, on Windows 11.

open xbox thread

just 3rd world steam monkeys smearing shit at the walls while farming their 1 cent cards to afford groceries

They're afraid of what the 'eckposter will do once he gets his dirty mitts on it.

NO YOU CAN'T EXPOSE VALVETROONS PLEASE DON'T

Really batting for jeetsoft?

batting for jeetsoft?

*baiting for jeetsoft

Nvidia Linux drivers come with a 20% performance hit

The point is that you don't do any work and document meticulously why you can't do any work and keep opening tickets and sending "chasers" to your manager. You spend half an hour per day doing this and just jack off for the remaining 7 and a half.

No one is buying your $1000+ box Rajee

It was fine already. If someone helps someone or some group it can be said they are going up to bat for them.

I was calibrating machinery and equipment in 4 separate factories that made medical equipment. I was happy to do that but it made an overwhelming amount of work for the single other person i worked with in person. Regretfully, i probably could have gotten a cool lawsuit out of it if i got fired. but, i wasnt thinking of it at the time.

lmao they couldn't unfuck W11.
Not clinging to exclusivity is the only good thing microsoft has ever done for gaming. Nobody wants to be forced to buy redundant trash hardware

Personal use desktops and gaming is not their biggest money earner.
Azure, cloud services and Office tools is their biggest money earner.

the 1 fps superiority in one game makes it a wash over these 10-15 fps gains in all these other games

lol
Microsoft should be utterly ashamed.

Remember that Valve has their own portable hardware to sell.

Literally a non-factor for Valve. They don't care about selling the hardware, it exists solely to push competition and continue development of SteamOS and Proton. Valve's goal is to load up SteamOS on everything, but if Microsoft just wants Steam to be at the forefront of their handheld, Valve will be perfectly happy with that too.

Fags not even reading the headline, but the fucking clickbait

I've been told that Microsoft still has big ambitions and is investing heavily to deliver a native Xbox handheld, but the shift is about prioritizing and allocating resources right now. There have been no layoffs or anything like that as a result of this reprioritization.

What the actual fuck.

In other words, theyre too busy working on Shader Model 7 instead of a handheld. Everyone keeps complaining on Anon Babble and all over twitter and the internet about shader stutter in games... and the source of the problem is the shader model that Microsoft use. All these issues go away on Linux which doesn't use shader model but SPIR-V instead.

ksh.webm - 480x674, 2.92M

Valve did Fossilization for Linux to be fair

That makes it sound like they're intending to do a Windows handheld PC

You will never be Japanese

Nvidia drivers on Linux are shit, what a huge mistake I made buying Nvidia
