Evangelion 2 was promising but unfortunately it has never gotten a translation patch. As a game judged in a vacuum there'd be nothing special about it, but getting to have Persona-like interactions with the Eva cast and world was a solid idea and it expanded the lore of the show quite a bit with alternate paths and endings. Giving the player some agency over Shinji also makes him more likeable too, which is something I've always said was the biggest shortcoming of Final Fantasy VIII and Squall.

Evangelion is one of the most popular and influential animes and you'd think the community could come together to finish a project of that size, but alas no.

in the anime space that's probably because anime became too big and popular in the west so even the best talent japan has right now is stuck making waifu bait and shonen slop. I can still enjoy well animated action scenes in jujutsu kaisen or slower more contemplative shows like frieren but yeah something that goes as hard as eva we probably won't be getting any time soon. I have high hopes from fujimoto, he's young and hasn't peak yet, I expect his magnum opus will be something truly special and very popular.
