It seems pretty obvious one of two things is happening. Peoples brains are getting uploaded to the cyborg cloud, or the bots are straight up brains in robot bodies.

Both sides lead to eventual death. Humanity has to find a third path for any hope of survival. They have to somehow tame their corrupt government without becoming any weaker on the battlefronts at the same time. It's nearly impossible, but their chances if they try that are better than if they keep fighting under the status quo.

There's a new Illuminate enemy unit called the Flesh Mob, it's a bunch of voteless (human zombies) fused together to make a big tanky zombie with ten times the HP.

The voteless in general don't make any sense because there are literally billions of them. We're talking half of the human population of Super Earth has been zombified and Super Earth didn't know about it or didn't tell anyone about it until after they invaded. The illuminate in Helldivers 1 used to be tech wizards that did things like fuck with your controls, mind control, screw with your strategems, make hallucinations. There used to be a planet modifier which called in the wrong strategem that everybody hated. That was a bit much for a planet modifier but it would have been neat for an Illuminate unit which did that until it was killed.

SEAF mooks get 72 hours of training then get shipped off to the front lines to die unsupported with nothing more than a basic carbine (with no sights), a grenade, and maybe a single use rocket. Helldivers get an additional 72 hours of training then get rocketed behind enemy lines to die unsupported laden down with absurd amounts of experimental dangerous equipment.

SEAF are like regular soldiers usually delegated to engineering and construction stuff out on other planets, paving the way for humanity. Until they ultimately get killed when alien invasion forces arrive on that world. Helldivers are like special forces with a super destroyer providing support. In SEAF you're more likely to be using a shovel everyday instead of a gun. Also SEAF don't get capes

The story is going to keep going. The illuminate haven't even properly set up in the galaxy yet. They don't even have an attackable front yet we can assault, but they likely will soon. Its a perfect time to get in while there is a momentary lul while more shit is about to pop off. It will give you time to clear missions to get to higher difficulties and level up to unlock gear

There's a mod that highlights super credits and samples in the world. No one seems to be getting banned for it.
If you want the warbonds, drop into easy missions on planet types with large open fields and no water and just run around grabbing them, then leave. You collect them the instant you pick them up, not when you finish the mission.
Get the car and jump pack as soon as you can to make this easy.
It sucks, but if you're diving on harder missions you just simply don't get much in the way of SC per hour.

Not at all, you missed the last big thing sure but there will be more. You might have to wait to fight the illuminate until they pop back up somewhere but bots and bugs were all we had for a while anyway, and are a lot more developed then they were at launch.

If anything it's probably better to jump in now, as the game is in a pretty good place. Between constant mechanical issues and the devs constant war on a meta while refusing to understand said meta only existed because everything else ranged from "not very viable" to dog shit, that first stretch or two was... rough, to put things lightly.
