that batman shooter was really really really fun for a drop in and out multiplayer experience like cod
It was shit, but it was home.
disconcerting to see an image i drew and posted a twice 4 years ago on the 'log

they are working on getting 2023 heroes and generals back up, currently you can play the 2017 version, though everything is unlocked and its only staged battles, but still fun. there's almost always a few servers popped. youtube.com
enemy territory
it used to be MapleStory but now it's coming back
Battlefield as a franchise
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005),
autistic modder anon here hoping some peeps from specifically sees this.
Battlefront 2 was designed more for multiplayer than singleplayer though the re-playability offline is just fine. but one key aspect LuicasArts wasn't happy with with BF1 was how low detail many of the environments were in BF1. switching over to more CQC style than open battle style maps allowed them to add in more details the player would see by focusing them through narrow corridors like in Polis Masa.
fpbp
battlefield died once every generation but best 2142 is still hanging on by a thread too
That old gmod server you used to play on
Battlebit is a recent example
mario kart wii (yes there's wiimmfi, it's not the same)
super smash bros brawl
Auto Assault. It was not the greatest and had plenty of problems but there was and still is nothing else like it.
I masturbated so hard to all the promo trailers and screenshots but never got a chance to play it back then. I hope NCSoft will burn in hell for their sins.
I'm still fucking seething
Yeah... Modifiedgaming... I remember it fondly...
Radical Heights. Sad that it got shot while in alpha, game had potential for BR.
I know some dudes working on a private server but it's never the same
tf2
inb4 its not dead!
it died in 2012
No I'm not playing your gay private server.
why not?
What's the QRD?
nta but they took the money and ran
I really do miss it. I fucking hate Bamco so fucking much it is unreal.
Planetside 2
LOTRO
right, i was doing this job upgrading some corpos GPUs for 3d rendering stuff in 2008~ and i ended up with like 400 early access trial keys for that. ran through 100%'ing the shire hundreds of times. eventually after release i earned enough cheevo-bux to buy every expansion up to .... rohan? but i never actually played past moria.
360/PC Shadowrun
also rip youtube.com
still very much alive anon
It was a crappy Shadowrun anything but a fucking awesome game
i played so much of it before Halo 3 came out, just a shame that it got infested with hackers
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.
battlefield 3
i was one of those unironic brink enjoyers
So was I. What are the odds that 2 out off the whole 3 of us would be in the same Anon Babble thread!
Firefall
I really loved both OG battlefront games, but I find myself gravitating towards 1 more. Space was great in 2, but geonosis and Ren Vhar still get me. And unkillabke heroes
it's well alive. play tf2classic
I still miss Hellgate
that was a very frustrating game but i bought it as a kid coming off diablos. if it was released like 3 years later it would have been perfect.
what if x-files and indiana jones and sometimes james bond were an MMO
that game has some of the best writing and design in gaming but also the absolute worst combat system ever made.
reminded me of the first few acts of picrel
combats fine until you reach tokyo, what are you talking about
its basically a placeholder all the way through
no, I'm here too.
still play from time to time
not really? you shoot people with guns. thats about it. what else do you want from guns?
basically every ps2 game
UT 2004
tfw even the Anon Babble group that used to play on weekends died years ago
BRINK is great.
Ace Combat Infinity
Garden warfare 2
I liked WFC's MP a lot more. Just needed a shoulder camera swap button and it would've been 10/10. Was an absolute menace in WFC and would go 25-0 in some games
Hellgate was so close to being great. I think it's the only game where the jank actually ruined it. All the pieces were there, they just didn't fit together correctly.
There was something special about what effectively was "CS:GO with cars (in some maps)".
play BF hardline
Doesn't hit the same spot. Still good though.
Honorable mentions:
Sub Rosa
Eternal Crusade
Nuclear dawn.
I know it doesn't look like much, you wouldn't get it.
Resident Evil Outbreak.
It's been almost 20 years
hahahaha no, that was never alive.
This game was wicked, also loved how they depicted cyberspace.
Was a fun game until they started adding broken paid weapons
Marvel Heroes
Rumbleverse
NeoTokyo
It was to me.

CS:GO Doesn't have perks and classes and 124 players fighting at the same time.
I hate french so much it's unreal
Play for Honor instead
The fact that anyone could host their own modded server was fucking awesome. There were so many fun mods.
I have never seen an MMORPG fall from grace as bad as this one
I still miss it tho
RO3 looks a lot like ToS but i doubt it's gonna be good
It was Gigantic but then they decided to relaunch it last year and I did not enjoy it nearly as much as I remembered. I'm not gonna say that's the case for everybody's version of this but I think if you got the opportunity like I did you'd be pretty underwhelmed.
A lot of it is nostalgia and you can never really go back to being that version of yourself, not having played the games you've played since. I really, really liked Paragon as well but I think if they put the servers back up I'd have the same experience. I kind of just outgrew my 3rd person MOBA phase.
would you rather it had lived on to become a shadow of its former self?
The Gigantic relaunch was also fucked up compared to the original because Gearbox went full retard and cheaped out on the servers.
that's the one
battles that could be stalemates for days
support roles that were tide turning and persistently rewarding for as long as the person assisted went on to do things till they respawn
small squads cutting off supplies from far behind enemy lines
simple hit and run tactics that drew attention away from the main fight and would get the other team steamrolled
dangerous artillery that was as likely to be useful to the assault of a base as it was to wipe out a group of your own guys trying to get in the doors
fortifying bases with enhanced turrets or automatic defenses and mines
slowly patrolling the air with ground facing radar to hunt down solo sneaky bastards that are hacking unattended defenses hoping to turn them against your team
so many facets will never be found in gaming again thanks to dopefiends needing an easy kill +5000 exp message popping every 7 seconds or they fall asleep
a game that unironically could've benefited from an f2p model. I know there's freeinfantry but it's not the same. it's too small that you don't get large scale firefights with multiple factions both big and small anymore.
Exteel
I hate NCSoft.
i've yet to find a game that can scratch the specific itch this game scratches
i take it you didn't like planetside 2?
Outspark Fiesta
TERA. I miss my guild.

Obviously, but that goes without saying brother.

Metal Gear Online 2.
No your private server with 20 people on it doesn't count.
Archeage. What a waste of potential. An mmo where you could make your own build, it had physics, vehicles, trade packs, pirate ship battles, farmville, player housing, guild based pvp. The PvE sucked ass but who gives a shit? You could upload your own music sheets into the game and play them on any instrument. It got so fucked over by poor management.
The first mass exodus was the thunderstruck tree deabacle. In order to craft a farm cart so you could haul more packs, you needed a thunderstruck tree. The entire economy became about farming trees. There was a small chance any tree you planted became thunderstruck, so people invested their entire savings into growing entire forests. Trion Worlds ended up putting the thunderstruck tree on the cash shop which bankrupted a huge segment of the playerbase and made everyone quite the game.
The second mass exodus was the Archeum update. Everyone sold all their old plots of land so that on day one of the Archeum update when the new land was added, they could attempt a land grab. Turns out that the land in the new continent costed way more in tax certs to maintain. Everyone sold all their old plots, only to find they couldn't afford rent on the new plots. They all went bankrupt and quit the game.
After that the only people who played the game were credit card warriors, because you needed to swipe to stay competitive in PvP and to keep your housing. The game became a small population of whales that free players had no chance against until the population dwindled because the whales had nobody left to lord over.
It was an incredibly solid game in it's fundamental mechanics, but the people managing it pumped and dumped the userbase to make a quick buck, ruining an otherwise good game artificially.
tldr; excellent game completely ruined by the cash shop.
It wasn't great, but I miss it.
the only thing i liked about planetside 2 was night time battle visuals
while the gunplay improved it was still worse than any dedicated gunplay game, and it took away about 80% of what made planetside battles interesting and complex
titanfall 2
play scientist
change teams and fly right up to someone
place a turret
stand around acting innocuous because no one memorized what the deception models looked like
they turn their backs
blast them with the burst gun
turret starts melting them at the same time
they almost instantly die
transform and fly away before anyone knows what happened
I liked it just as much as the first time around, but I knew it wouldn't last long. Its a real shame the game just couldn't catch a break.
I loved how nonsense all the kits where
hey we have this character with all long range abilities, what should their ult be?
PUNCH
Fallout 13.
god it looked so good at night.
kek scientist was so fun man
Especially that one map with the big catwalks you could shoot down on scout scrubs
why you hate them
PSO:BB
yes you happy faggot i know about private servers and ephinea, what good players are left play in cliques, all the TA'ers left to their own servers due to the mods of ephinea being fags do faggot things, and the others are japanese and dont play with westerners, dead to anyone who wants to play the game normally. Thanks commies
I remember headshotting that bitch SSSniperwolf in a lobby and all her fagboi white knights started to come after me. Boxpopping was pretty gay so I'd just use the M870 custom with Vring and grenades to blow up two people at once when they would try to wake them up
MGO3 was such a disappointment
MOM GET OFF THE PHONE I WANT TO PLAY INFANTRY
mech skirm > eol
cm > all
I had this expanded and was jump scared by the friendly-non-homo hug in the bottom left corner when I scrolled down.
I still don't know.
I was too young.
But I've heard about it for what seems like 20 years now.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
Literally the best shooter ever made and the Battlefield series devolved into retarded garbage after this entry. It was literally perfect.
not to sound like snarky faggot but when has this ever happened?
This was by far the best assfaggots and it wasn't even close. Comics and everything were being put out as well and then EA as usual closed it because it didn't print them call of duty money.
I miss it so fucking much.
Maple Story 2
t. neosted sniper
tfw still deving for infantry
no one to play the things I dev
do it anyway
Shame, but is what it is
Not bad
slug gun engineering was the absolute best and was the first thing i thought back to.
Holy moly, I never played this game (I think) but I remember older teens playing the fuck out of this when I was little. That is a fucking flashback.
Forgot my FUCKING IMAGE FUCK
looked like an aggressively ugly league knockoff to me
was it the one with the key loli?
the moba craze was weird
there was a lot of slop but also some genuinely interesting games that came out but couldn't keep up with league and dota 2
I dont really cry over it but natural selection 2 was really fucking cool when both teams got a commander that actually knew what they were doing.
what was the HoN guys' league knockoff again? i kinda miss that one.
strife
strife? they brought the servers back up and there's a couple people doing balance patches
store.steampowered.com
it's unlisted but you can play it if you want
it's ass
it played nicely mechanically and they had a bunch of "anti-toxic" stuff that worked kind of okay in an extremely limited release test sort of way. iirc they sold everything off to someone so i have no idea what would even be coming back online.
They were definitely ape'ing the art style, but the actual comics were a lot more interesting than league's lore especially at the time. the game also played pretty much entirely differently. You had actual bases and structures that could be sabotaged or even stolen and your passive income would start going to the enemy team. This was on top of having more roles to play and tons of different ways to play different characters because the items were so varied and strong. The designs for the characters toolkit-wise were also way ahead of other games with characters like aforementioned key loli being a better designed Yuumi which came out like a decade later. I still miss doing across the map snipe resets with Zalgus.
MGO2
Remember when Dota was just a Warcraft 3 arena?
What the actual fuck happened?
gaben'd
it got really popular and people realized they could make money with it
I remember going to computer/snooker lounges and it was like 95% asians just playing it.
I didn't like it btw, I just played snooker or warcraft campaign. kek
It seemed super repetitive to me.
Man, the 00s is such a foreign time thanks to fucking globalists, think tanks and the gfc.
That game still has a sizable playerbase. And its on steam now
The game was just as amazing as it was before WHEN IT FUCKING WORKED god fuck epic for what they did to this game. How in the fuck do you release it more broken?
wulfram ii
blacklight retribution too yeah, shame the devs went pants on head retarded
FFCC echoes of time
Sure it was a DS/Wii title and didn't last more than a few weeks but it was a magical few weeks
was original? crystal chronicles the one that required you to buy multiple GBAs to do multiplayer?
Overwatch circa 2016
everyone does, even ncshit themselves
oh yeah, and defiance
even though it was one big (((dodge))) advertisement, it was still some good dumb fun way before destiny 2 was a gleam in some ex-bungie shitter's eyes
People actually played this past getting the tf2 hat?
warcraft 3 non expac bnet
metal rage
Warcraft 3 custom maps
King Arthur’s gold was kino, why the fuck did the developers not do more with it?
Resistance 2
Little Big Planet
Put the hook in me in a way big title games of the same kind did not. I don't even like Batman
MCC multiplayer is dead as shit in my country
does this count
overwatch, a lot of "spiritual successor"s
Was simple fun with good weapons maps and modes until the end where the conch just fucked balance up. Loved the Freeze gun.
tf2classic sucks. They thought that tf2 had a lot of shitty, unfun weapons that they shouldn't add, and they were right, but then they added their own even shittier and even more unfun weapons instead.
Like the scout nailgun. You know why valve changed the scout's primary from being a mid range SMG-type thing to a close range shotgun type thing? Because fighting a scout who hangs out at mid range spraying you with a wall of bullets is cancer. TF2classic is somehow full of unlocks that are even more cancerous than the ones in the regular game.
Ascend: Hand of Kul or whatever the fuck it was called
DIG A TRENCH OR BUGGER OFF, HERE COMES THE THUNDER!
Fuck Overwatch, after Tf2 this game had the best character design.
nailgun is worse than stock. were you playing back before it got nerfed?
Star Wars Galaxies.
he just like me fr
It's not that much better in America, Aussie bro. Half the lobbies I find are full of modders. I've resorted to playing Halo Custom Edition and Project Cartographer.
battlebit remastered
Dino D-Day
prenerf claymore forests were the most fun i've had with a multiplayer fps since bad company 2
Media Molecule simply gave up on the franchise and Sony is too busy bleeding money to care for Resistance or Killzone.
The fate of Guerrilla, bungie and Rare is just tragic. They’ve been associated with this one crappy franchise (Sea of Thieves, Destiny and Horizon respectively) for longer than their entire span of their golden years, most people have forgotten that they were ever respected.
I am glad I got the multiplayer achievements out the way, so I only have LASO left.
Half the lobbies I find are full of modders
Well it is called "EASY" anti-cheat for a reason.
Gigantic
Game is so cursed it died twice
It's not a matter of it being overpowered, it's just awful to fight against. It's not better than stock because it doesn't do that much damage, but it results in awful fights against scouts that dance around at mid range and pepper you until you give up and leave. All of the TF2classic weapons are like they took an idea that valve had and made it more annoying. Like that dumb scythe the pyro gets, which is just the old axtinguisher if you didn't have to be on fire to get crit by it. Or the soldier rocket launcher that one shots light classes like the direct hit and also has splash damage. Or the sniper rifle that lets you noscope headshot, like if the classic didn't suck. These aren't overpowered but I'd rather play against a phlog pyro than any of this shit.
how come no one plays el dewrito anymore?
Call of duty modern warfare, [GD] Pipeline 24/7 was my shit. I think 7 years ago I checked and there's still some 24/7 servers up. Crossfire is always around.
tribes
VGS
section 8
mnc
gundam evo
Dystopia
resistance 2
and all the many, many ASSFAGs that tried to not just carbon copy League
you had to be there
Is it less dead than MCC? I haven't played it in ages. Honestly, I forgot it even existed.
When I did LASO, I turned on my monitors built in crosshair, ngl. I want to do it again legit but can't get the bros to reinstall the game :(
That feel when you live the good ol USA.
Yeah time to rev up MCC.
Team Fortress Classic
2142
fuck I loved that shit, especially early days. Had one I called Mr. Plow that was just a giant plow truck covered with armour on the front but nothing at the back, and a thruster under my seat so when I got fucked up I could just fly away into the sky
I turned on my monitors built in crosshair, ngl
That aint cheating, back when people used a sticky note and a pencil to draw the sight on their tvs. I still used that method today but there is a steam app that creates that overlay, I think Nvidia and AMD have an app for that.
I have CE, Halo 4 and 2 left.
I beat CE but I cheated because MCC is broken as fuck and I had to tamper with the xml because the game refused to save my progress and I was having fun. I feel I should do it again even when it was not my fault.
I hate Halo 4 so much.
GTA Online. It's far from dead, but good God I wish it was. It used to be the enjoyable kind of jank shit but now it's just broken soulless corporate overmonetized shit.
Mega Man X Online Deathmatch
What the fuck is Media Molecule even doing right now? As far as I know, all of their existing games are either no longer updated/supported and/or are completely offline.
It's better for games to die gracefully than to live on in a mangled state.
The free-to-play, Java-based game was released in 2011 and is still updated occasionally with re-occurring events, but has not received significant content additions since 2019.
Technically still alive, I'd try playing again, but I'm op sec paranoid and my screen name I used was compromised because of some medical hack.
I’m still mad
Tower of Fantasy
Not quite yet, no. But probably soon.
Evolve 2
As someone who has long loved this image, please accept this higher quality version
The remakes just weren't the same or as fun but they still completely killed the mod.
gmod
it's not really dead, but if you don't like darkrp (like me) it may as well be
all the old hl2 source engine mods are dead and gone and some of them were awesome, tons of zombie games.
This game was/is fucking awesome, it's like a more involved, third person Team Fortress 2. Yet it never managed to gather any steam and then the servers just completely died and the devs gave up.
It's a shame for how much fun it is.
i think i might own that. i played it all of one time with some buddies and then forgot it existed.
I miss you muggas like you wouldn't believe
Genuinely a good game and I wish Anon Babble or some other board would gather enough people to play it regularly/host some servers.
Holy shit a fellow Dystopia enjoyer was not what I was expecting.
I was thinking back on it a few weeks ago and marveling at how much depth it had for a FREE FPS game. Plenty of build variety, plenty of weapons, cyberspace adding a completely new axis to the game/teamplay - shame all good things come to an end.
deathloop
genshin impact
fortnite
call of duty warzone
marathon
nightreign
"Are you guys going Trick or Treating?"
5 hours of playtime in 2010, wew
My man.
I'm still amazed nobody's stolen the whole idea of a game within the game and a map within the map- Cyberspace added a really cool dynamic to the game.
I never played the mod but I put a lot of time in Insurgency standalone, even just playing solo versus bots. Slapping a suppressor on an M4 and clearing whole maps with NVGs was aesthetic as hell. I had a Samurai Champloo music mod too so I associate the game with that music a lot.
I think I played this on a free weekend onetime. It was cool, but the movement felt clunky if I remember correctly. Definitely a cool concept, but the small team sizes made it a bit too intense for my liking.
Or how crazy they physics were for Cyberspace in the first place to run *parallel* to meatspace. Source really is a remarkable engine.
I hope the devs are working on projects they're passionate about nowadays, because Dystopia is very clearly a labor of love that would've been deemed too niche for shareholders to ever get made.
Literally nothing ever like it.
M&B Warband. Nobody here ever played the MP but it wqs a shitload of fun - stayed on life support for years until Bonerlord finally killed it.
Remember when games were <30 gigabytes?
Giants enjoyer
My nigga, that game was absolute peak assymetrical strategy.
Turning the map into Vietnam was too much fun.
Yeah, having relatively normal Source physics in meatspace and then having Cyberspace be like a floatier Quake where you could can change the direction gravity goes was wild.
I'd hope so, they seemed like cool dudes in general. The map design was pretty fantastic, too- stuff like the missile silo map where you could open or close the hatches from under people's feet was genuinely inspired.
youtu.be
Early Firefall was cozy
I miss the lads
ah the memories
youtube.com
Seconding this anon, no other game has movement and inertia as good as tribes
Are there any private servers trying to get it right ?
been playing that recently, guessing I missed it's heyday but I am still having fun with it.
any timesplitters chads up in this bitch?
Fuck New Genesis. I want my space station hub back.

It was fun.

The emulation was fun for a bit, but it's just not the same.
making something original and not spamming Anon Babble with it
never happened
No monkeys allowed
Some fag chooses the duck instead
idk i feel like you'd have to go in together with friends to get into SWG today. it's not the weird experimental pre-mmo community that was.
why is his underarm so buff compared to his biceps?
pure kino
BRING IT BACK
There's a couple, largely the magic is gone for me. Archeage had a time and a place in my life and I'd just be playing it for nostalgia. Archeage classic is the best it gets if you're looking to experience an excellent game.
It had everything, and MechaBREAK didn't quite scratch the same itch with it's beta.
Make a wojak version and it'll pefectly encompass the idea of this comic with Anon Babble
This post is going to make me get a copy of the original retail iso off of archive.org in the software section, 2007 dated, and then mod it with London 2038 the only active private server left to play multiplayer.
I remember playing this Ace of Spades like a decade and a half ago, it was so simple and fun.
FreeRealms...?
A very recent example. It was the only battle Royale I liked.
Man, the Anon Babble hosted servers were so fun. Take me back
Thumping as a solo engineer was cozy indeed
It was dumb fun. It's a pale comparison to the first two games, which you can still regularly find games for if you know where to look... but I still loved it.
Not mentionning Wildstar in your post is criminal my man
I miss it everyday
bombing run demo map. my beloved.
the way this game turned into pure shark card milking is insane
I loved watching Twitch streamers lose at Dirty Bomb
Realm of the Mad God, specifically the iteration of it I played before it got ruined by Kabam.
That used to be me with Metal Gear Online but it's actually back on PC.
The best multiplayer game of the 7th gen
I miss the game
okay here's the game with a decent playerbase (actually insane playerbase for 15 year old abandonware) with new maps, content, added QoL, better framerate, moderation and connection
no not like that!
but guys remember gaming is better than ever before! what you're thinking of is just nostalgia and it was shit at the time! so trve!!
Yeah it was always better than post ARR
To this day I hate funcom for what they did with the skill wheel and weapons in the f2p-eupdate
That early 2000s era where games tried to mix genres to varying degrees
3rd person melee class based game with magic guns and RTS gameplay
Zoomers don't know bout my kino
Setting up a bunch of turrets as bastion was great, liked using the manned turret too even if it wasn't the best ability to use, it was fun.
I unironically miss MGO3
Based boomer. The custom game scene was almost as good as Warcraft 3's.
I still remember that medieval RPG custom game where you could learn spells and shit.
natural selection
the hl1 mod, not the shitty sequel
little big planet 2

spams snoopas all day on spamono
I miss the ditch too, that game actually had pretty good maps.

shit was so much fun
Sad no one else knows how kino an ORPG is
