elemental usefullness probably looks something like this

light

multiple dark element bosses + shadow enemies. it also helps that light's weapons have a high raw attack value

fire/earth/wind

all have a fair amount of enemies, using a good legendary one until you can get a true time weapon is good

water/dark

useful in their situations, but you should only craft these later. there aren't that many fire or light enemies that matter (most are basic mobs that would get deleted just fine even when using a resisted weapon)

Trees take up 9 tiles, which means you can't lay down smaller items against the trunk or under the shade, while taking up a shit ton of space

2x damage is what I heard. But switching your equipment all the time is annoying.
If you're doing something like farming Don for 180+ horns it makes sense to make a weapon for it but otherwise it seems like too much of a hassle.

some panels require you to buy a certain number of skills to unlock them. The dosh requires 30 skills purchased, and the bottom requires 50. If you respec they stay unlocked so at level 71 you might be able to buy the 50 cheapest panels to unlock the bottom then respec back to get the good skills again.

you need to rip out the steamapi/replace with goldberg but otherwise yeah.

The feeling I get is that endgame deliberately has undertuned rewards so they can increase them later in patches. Better to release the game and make resources hard to get then make them easier than have them be too easy from the get-go.
Ginormosa and legendary resources in particular are just way too scarce for regular players.

In the early game the gathering > crafting loop was time-balanced enough, specifically time, but the more you get in the later levels the more each of those steps take unnecessarily long time.
The problem is that I've planned out and start building my base, as well as gearing my buddies. Gathering takes a long time with a lot of ORRRYAAAAAA combined with the slow animations because of how high level gathering works, then you have to 1-to-4 convert the raw resources with a 3~6 pages minigame, and then you have another minigame for the actual tool, gear or furniture you want, and then you might even want to redo all of this because you're not satisfied with the stats roll.

Not complaining though, I had a lot of fun with the game so far. But projecting the amount of time I'm going to need from now on just doesn't seem worth it. I wish they could at least speed up some animations, or do something about the voices.

But apparently they DO drop them. I just didn't happen to get any after slaying one pack. Just make drops guaranteed, and maybe increase the required amount. So there wouldn't be situations like this, when you're not sure if you're farming the right monster.
And sometimes, when you go check the required materials page, it just says: dropped by ??? at ??? location. Seriously, if I could just get a hint what the game wants from me without going to a 3rd party wiki, it'd make the game much more enjoyable.

next batch seem to grow really fast.

There's a lot of Quality of Life missing from the 3DS that makes it harder to go back to.
Running takes stamina. Lifes don't change automatically, you can only change your life at the guild house. Combat doesn't have rolls or parrying. Can't see what crafting items are quests.
There's a story, but it's not really anything special. Yuelia and Noella are cute though.

i play it on my steamdeck, setting a turbo button is a godsend for crafting. switch would be suffering if i had to change to it.

Do the fights even get hard enough to warrant using those? I've heard drop rate is meta. Even if you got enough atk boosts to kill a boss twice as fast, there's little point using it over double the drop chance, because there's still boss respawn timer to take into consideration.

Actually, I could probably just browse all the armor sets on a wiki or something, to check which has the highest stats. Plate sets have more p.def and less m.def, but leather/cloth are more balanced, and usually have higher total defense if you just sum both stats.

They have different bonuses, depending on the type of object you're crafting. So do tools. Also, just in case you haven't noticed, the second assistant only uses half the crafting power, unlike the first slot assistant.

I haven't been in the Depths ever since I finished the main story. And now that I'm bringing my jobs, erm, I mean lives, up to Master, I went exploring in there. And holy shit, it's chock full of unique endgame encounters that aren't found anywhere else. Like every other room has a boss, mini-boss, or a rare gathering node that's only found there, and they're all probably required to be farmed by Master unlocks.

I just wish it wasn't such a long hike toward the ass end of the Depths whenever you need to kill the Chimera or Golem

The current tinfoil theory is that some upper decision locked a lot of outfits because 'someone' wanted to make the game fully 'gender neutral'.
So a lot of outfits and unlocks do not make that much sense. It's supposedly more apparent to the people who are playing females.

I have noticed some oddities

I agree with that with things like the hunter armor and how most/all of Life sets are gender-neutral but the Rem set is for girls so they could have included some other sets to align with the rest of the game's design choices

It's theorized that the initial vision of the game under Inafune was going to be a more textbook Animal Crossing knockoff with real-time day-by-day kind of gameplay, and these would be remnants of that they didn't fully remove, I guess
