Was there a console with a worse launch line up than the 3DS?
Was there a console with a worse launch line up than the 3DS?
Sony has tried the zero games approach for two generations running.
Bought my 3DS on launch because Legends 3 Prototype was going to be a day 1 demo when the eShop launched
Vita managed to be even worse
And then Sony got mad because that the Vita didn't beat the 3DS even though they had the best opportunity but didn't have anything to offer except for their shitty overpriced memory cards
the N64 launched with two games in NA
And it has worked for them. When they do it with the PS6 it will work then too.
Nobody asked about if it worked, smartass. Clearly it worked with the 3DS too.
Actually it didn't with 3DS. It was on pace to failing because it didn't have shit at launch AND it was too expensive. If they didn't do the price drop and start actually getting games afterward, it would have failed alongside the Wii U. That's why people say the Vita had a shot since Nintendo was vulnerable for a good while with the 3DS. Most people seem to not remember this and I don't know why.
immediately goes "but sony"
History revisionism over the first 2-3 years of the 3DS being god awful is quite strange
the worst part wasn't this launch line up, it was that they still didn't have any games worth playing until like a full year after launch
Sony has the actual cult that Anon Babble pretends Nintendo has. Sony doesn’t need games to move consoles
yeah but one of those was the most important game of all time
Same happened to me. God, what a mess.
Vita launched with HSG World Invitational and the best version of Rayman Origins, so I can't agree.
it's still two games
The wonderswan.
I got mine after the price drop but before they ended the ambassador program which bagged you 8 gba games
PS1 was the only console sold as basically a video game only machine. You could play your CDs in it which was cool, but I don't know many people used it much. PS2 was a stealth DVD player, but was the best valued product in all of consumer electronics and entertainment. It can play new games (and online) as well as all of your PS1 games, all of your music CD, and these brand new DVDs with dolby surround sound and all that extra stuff. It was the ultimate entertainment system for $299.99.
PS3 was a blu ray player that could also play current generation games in up to 1080p with beautiful, movie like visuals and audio, all your music (mp3s I believe worked at this point), DVDs and Blu-ray discs and I believe you could do Netflix, Hulu and Crunchyroll on it. PS4 is basically the PS3 again but stronger with more streaming app options. PS5 is the PS4 again but stronger. PS6 will be PS5 again, but stronger.
The purpose of PlayStation isn't just to play games, it's to be a full on entertainment system. Something you can put in your living room and act as your entertainment all-in-one-device for a good price. That's why it doesn't necessarily NEED games to sell. It has mindshare and the value proposition it has still holds because its baked into the PlayStation brand.
was there something worse
yes, there was this
whoa hold your horses dude why all the sony talk
PSTriple, yo!
I misread 3DO lol. So that, the Jaguar, the D-I, and the Lynx.
They genuinely believed that Nintendogs would help carry the console again. It's weird enough that it genuinely worked for the DS
*CD-I
Don't know what happened there.
wii u
I did the same thing.
You could play your CDs in it which was cool, but I don't know many people used it much
The big thing about the CDs was that Sony was able to show their viability in comparison to the expensive cartridge method Nintendo was still doing. Cost was better, storage was better, etc. CDs were already a success outside of games, but even though technically SEGA had CDs too with the Saturn, Sony were the ones who made the format mainstream for video games. Sony even with the PS1, they were format trailblazers.
If the 3DS had a better first couple years then Fire Emblem would have died with Awakening. There were so many people that bought Awakening because there was fucking nothing else to play on the 3DS at the time.
didn't play Nintendoland
It was better and more soulful than Wii Sports
That's a very good line up
Nintendo Land and Pikmin 3 were good. That's more than you can say for the 3DS launch. Sad that Wii U was the one that failed, though.
W101
Nintendo Land
NSMBU
Pikmin 3
poor line up
The fuck are you smoking, nigger?!
xbox 360 and xbox one had no games at launch
Wasn't Killer Instict at release/months after release?
who the fuck is going buy killer insinct on the xbox one?
game sold like shit
Switch 2 unironically.
mario kart, a game everyone buys and plays for five minutes
paid instruction manual
shitty ports of old games like cyberpunk running at 240p and ff7r1 because rebirth is obviously too intense for switch 2
Not disagreeing with you but that game was an exclusive and IPs strong enough to turn heads around. Shame the response to the whole system was so bad nothing would save it, xbox one had at least 3 decent games before killing itself completely
bravely default remaster got me to buy a switch 2 desu
Mario Kart World is going to sell millions of standalone copies and will push millions of Switch 2 units.
This. And the game look cool enough already.
OP literally asked you fucking braindead retard. eat a cinderblock.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss was actually pretty cool.
It was probably the best example of what Sony tried to sell the Vita as: console level games on a handheld.
Nintendo Switch 1?
Nintendo Switch 2?
N-Gage?
Ouya?
PS3?
PS5?
Xbox One?
I don't think it looks all that great honestly and I'm not buying a Switch 2, but it would be ridiculous to assume Mario Kart World WON'T do great numbers by itself and for Switch 2 units.
I don't think it looks all that great honestly and I'm not buying a Switch 2
That seamless transition from one race to another is quite nice and that fucking DK track is amazing. The rainbow road HAS to be top tier.
I think they were expecting the same level of third party interest the Game Boys and DS had, and when that didn't really happen, they had to hit the panic button and have all their first and second party studios focus on getting shit out there, leaving even less resources for the Wii U's first year.
I catch myself from time to time looking for a hidden gem that maybe I missed on, but it turns that console had just a few good games, then I proceed to forget
That's not the launch line up. I would know, since my Wii U was a dust collector until Pikmin 3 launched nearly a year later.
Netflix still works on PS3
The japanese PS1 launch line up was so utter shit that I have no idea how that console gained any traction. Especially with the Saturn around that had kickers like Daytona, Virtua Fighter and Panzer Dragoon.
Switch 2
Shadow war and SFIV were good
