I pre-ordered everything at one point. From the SNES all the way to the PS3. Back then games weren't always out on a specific, and consoles were even harder to find. By the 360/PS3 era everything was out on time and games were plentiful and it's not much different now.

This was my first time preordering anything (did it from gamestop) because walmart isn't 24/7 anymore so i couldn't simply wait in line release night like i have done plenty of times for vidya. I do day 1 releases because i want to play vidya when it releases. The fact that a future revision years from now could happen or a potential price drop isn't worth the years of not being able to use what i could be using now. For consoles there is a 0% chance i will regret my purchase even the weakest libraries will have a solid chunk of games worth playing. Theres also the fact that if you dont get a console on day one it will be months before new stock becomes available and even then those quickly get bought up so tou have to go through more work tracking down one than simply preordering it. Switch 2 is also in a unique situation where prices could actually go up after release because of tariffs. If you like nintendo games and know you will buy one eventually when there are more games there's no reason not to preorder one. I have plenty of switch games i have been waiting to replay on the better hardware so it will get plenty of use while gwtting through the barren release window

Yoo it was crazy, I went for Best Buy and Target. What a roller coaster, I joined Best Buy's immediately after the delayed launch, sat in queue for an hour and got kicked. I kept getting it in my cart on Target at the same time, but couldn't check out. Then I gave up, but saw Target came back with some so I got one finally at like 1:40am. Shipping isn't until June 11th but that's kind of ok with me, I'm excited but I'm just glad I'm getting one.

They also have to compete with computer part manufactures/apple/mobile phone companies for chips as well since they can only make so many within a certain amount of time, you really have to factor in logistics.
