The Deltarune appears in both Undertale and Deltarune. Delta is an object shaped like a triangle. The light world is above ground but the Underground is obviously Underground. Since we also DECEND into the darkworld in the same way Frisk fell into the underground then I suspect Undertale was also just a darkworld. An inverse triangle you will note that there is no fountain in Undertale, but there is in Deltarune. If we are playing on an inverse Delta then perhaps the player themselves is the source of the Darkworld in undertale. That is why the world gets destroyed in the Genocide route, Chara destroyed the source of the darkworld.
Yes it's an au, but there must be some sort of in lore reason as to why this alternate world is different from the undertale one, the easiest one to believe is just the war never happened but I'm open to all schizo theories

The biggest thing that seems to separate the monsters in UT vs DR is that they don't have magic. Maybe Monsters in DR weren't seen as threatening leading to a peaceful resolution of the war.
I want to believe that the war never happened because humans and monsters are way more equal in power. Susie overpowers Kris in Chapter 1 and there's no indication Kris has infinite determination. Other lightners, as in, monsters, can also create dark fountains, and creating dark fountains involves determination. This means monsters and humans are more toe to toe this time around so no underground barrier shenanigans

My current theory about the world is that it is a test environment created by Gaster after having been destroyed by CHARA on a genocide run. It was saved by the DT Extraction Machine, saving every monster by using darkness to hide the universe away from CHARA.
Ralsei is Asriel with the meta-knowledge that comes with Flowey. He knows the world has been destroyed and is under the threat of death if the test environment goes too far off the rails, then Gaster lets up the protection and CHARA is free to kill it. Otherwise it stays safe under the darkness Gaster provides.
That's why Ralsei is so insistent on everything going according to plan and why he's so desperate to be loved, he's been threatened into being a fawning pawn trying to keep everyone safe in their prison. Kris knows what's going on, he knows the universe is destroyed over and over, but he's permanently frozen on these tracks outside of a few choice moments that give him freedom. It's why there's a save file with his name and why he's in the same exhausted state SANS is in.

I don't think this is the case, since I think Deltarune is a more fundamentally different setting where monsters and humans aren't so different. In a more general sense of "this is a world where monsters and humans live in harmony" this could be true, but it seems like if there is a human society on the surface it's segregated/separate from monster society.

This is definitely not the case, Deltarune isn't a sequel and there are irreconcilable differences between the game's settings.

This is a possibility, but I'm more inclined to believe "Device Theory" where Gaster is only facilitating our connection to this other world, and it's not necessarily a world he created or some kind of simulation. I think the pretext of us and Gaster operating at a higher level and seeing the world as a game works enough as it's already established, it doesn't need to be made textual and going in the direction of something like "the characters realize they're in a game/the world is fake" seems like an unnecessary complication (for the "real" characters in the main narrative, it's fine for the schizobosses).
As a whole I would take Toby at his word, from what he's said about Deltarune and its development he basically took his original idea for the game (which already significantly influenced Undertale) and made it an Undertale AU. Not in the strict sense of "this is a different version of Undertale's story," in the more broad one of "taking characters and concepts from Undertale and applying them to a new story and setting."
For the most part Undertale characters are just being borrowed. It's not too different from how he uses music, it's presenting you with something you're already familiar with but tweaked and used in a different way

Considering Ralsei looks directly at you when you compliment him on the boat ride, is talking to Kris while you're offscreen, and literally understands Meta elements of the story, he has to have a good amount of prescience that he keeps hidden.
A good litmus test for understanding his character is near the start of Chapter 2, he makes sure only Kris knows to get the items from the classroom to bring back to the dark fountain. He never lets Susie know what they are or where they're from, and considering how spacey she can be on certain things, he knows she'll never ask.
Plus his appearance in the Cyber world without becoming stone without telling the team why he's special. Loads of little things that become terrible when added together.

But that just gets the same results as pacifist.
Pacifist is incentivized because it makes sense for the game to do so, ACTing is more involved than FIGHTing, and you can fight your enemies in any game.
But it's pretty silly to complain about Deltarune pushing pacifism when the game has made it clear since Chapter 1 that it's also trying to break the false dichotomy of Undertale, the message of Chapter 1 is literally "some people can't be reasoned with and there are times you need to FIGHT."
I think one of the things Toby is most concerned with is disabusing people of their fear of clicking the FIGHT button. I've seen playthroughs where people are so scared of "ruining their Pacifist run" that they won't even do the Punch-Out fights in Chapter 2 until the game yells at them to just hit the fucking punch button (and even then half of them don't actually FIGHT Giga Queen, even though the Mercy bar is crossed out). This isn't a game where you're killing enemies (usually/yet), so FIGHTing should be just another tool that you can use when it's appropriate, mainly in boss fights (and not just the final bosses).

Fangame born of the "GOD DAMN IT KRIS WHERE THE FUCK ARE WE" meme that started off as a silly romp through the Ruins with Kris and Susie. Has a fantastic opener with Kris, Susie and Flowey, and then immediately shits the bed when Toriel comes and breaks down crying instantly because apparently Kris looks a lot like Chara despite the only similarity being the shirt.
This would be foreshadowing that the game isn't being a fun lighthearted romp through various videogames, but instead the tranny developer's own "gotcha, Toby!" of trying to predict Deltarune with his godawful melodrama featuring Kris angsting over being controlled by (You), his shitty Gaster interpretation, and just overall very mediocre writing that loves to contradict itself.
And then it gets even worse when you commit to the Genocide Route that exists for some godforsaken reason, effects showing in section 2 (Earthbound) where the melodrama cranks up to 11.
Said tranny also couldn't help but inject his dead Underfell take into being the third section of the game (spoiler alert, it never got past Snowdin!), because that's exactly what this game needed, and it featured edgekino Sans who killed this world's little orphan Suzy and called it the most cathartic kill in his life... before everyone who played or watched Deltatraveler failed to take him seriously BECAUSE of how gloriously over the top he was, so he got neutered into a punk bitch who couldn't actually commit his most cathartic kill, and now gets redeemed within the fight after an indeterminate amount of time of holding a bitter grudge against his version of Deltarune's Heroes for ruining the world or some shit which turned him into a remorseless killer from how much hatred he harbored in his bones.
