my first every playthrough was duel wield warden warrior, but I wanted to blow my brains out when I was done because how boring it was, it also felt like a worse version of just playing a DW dagger Rogue. Haven't tried trapper rogue, sounds kind of fun.

I used to play this game over and over again. I loved DA:O so much, fantastic game. Dragon Age could've been one of the greatest RPG series of all time. What we instead got - unfortunately - was a franchise raped and disfigured at the hands of the golems of the Jews.

bruh i cleared house on the hardest difficulty relying mainly on cone of cold. i lined up the majority of normal enemies to get hit by it, then i made it so that the rest of the party used every ability on every frozen enemy to shatter them and one shotting them lmao. i could kill like 10 enemies in one go, and that was just cone of cold

There's a lot of odd systems for warriors in DAO from what I remember. You get more damage out of auto attacking, and your threat is determined by your armor type. The heavier the armor, the more likely the AI was to attack that character, so setting up Alistair in plate and the player Warden in mail or something lighter would have them attack Alistair more often. Also 2handed was borderline shit with dualwielding being slightly better. It was a lot of jank, but mildly fun jank when certain skills from the classes combo'd into each other.

How did Dragon Age get bad after DAO?

It was all EA greed. They saw the success of Origins and wanted to capitalize on it immediately, so they pushed for a sequel as quickly as possible and with as small a budget as possible. They delusionally envisioned annual Bioware sequels like their their sports titles.
The gameplay was changed for DA2 because EA market research showed that Action RPGs were more palatable to the current market and that CRPGs typically didn't hit big numbers and weren't appealing the console market. Similarly, DAI too was initially meant to be a MMORPG, then it shifted to a nickle-and-dime live service game, and eventually they cobbled together what work they had done and effectively made a single player MMO with co-op duct taped on.

Overall, EA had no idea how to handle an RPG franchise and thought that they could just through market data at it and print money like they did for everything else.

Same thing as succubi in the place of origin. They will appear as anything and promise you anything as long as they can snatch your immortal soul.

It's alright but pretty short, maybe 15 hours on your first playthrough if being generous and the power level is cranked up to 11, you can see some choices they'd use for 2 creeping in with the abilities, most warrior and rogue abilities in Origins were simple and "realistic" whereas the new ones are like flinging shockwaves or teleporting around

DAO I absolutely would, 2 could have been a lot better if it wasn't so obviously rushed, As in every dungeon is the exact same dungeon buyt with a different door open. Inquisition, while being the best graphically really feels like a slog, and plays like a singleplayer MMO. There's an excess of poiuntless filler fetch quests, which are optional, but make up half the game content. The story itself was not bad though, it's just unfortunate it was in such a shit game. It's also unfortunate because the DLC for Inquisition was leading to what could have been a really cool story, but we see how that ended up.

I'm a big fan of Awakening but I'd save it after your next DA:O playthrough. Playing it as a standalone adventure must feel (for the lack of better term) rootless. The events of the DLC start half year after DA:O's main story concluded, and while you can play it as a new character (an Orlesian Grey Warden Commander) I'd stick to your own Warden from the base game. IMHO this is how it supposed to be played (after DA:O main story + imported Warden) both for immersion and to maximize the experience.

also i forgot to add. the only choices carrying over from the previous game is like 3 choices from inquisition only lol. so i don't think you need to be terribly invested in dragon age lore to understand what's going on

I don't think you need to know anything to play Vanguard. If anything it's probably best you don't since they've already retconned a whole bunch of stuff in Inquisition for the "modern audience". And by the looks of it they've gone even further with it in the new one. At this point they're just using the brand name. There's literally no one left BioWare that was there when they made Origins.

Doing it once was fine but I always had to skip it afterwards. Never got this problem with the Deep Roads.

All mages can turn to blood magic if they want, I don't think it's a learned skill though presumably you can become more skilled at it, you just cut yourself and use it to make your magic stronger

Its actually really easy to max out Sten's approval. He doesnt have many negative events, and the ones he does have dont reduce his approval much. You also gain a ton of approval just for asking around his culture, being straightforward, and approving of his culture or taking his side. Morrigan also has big approval bumps but she has a lot of events where you can easily lose a bunch of approval especially if you dont have persuasion

after having replayed it again for the 3rd time last month, i would say it's worth playing but really not that great. a lot of the companions suck, there are some truly terrible parts of the game, the combat can feel a bit stiff, the story is....something. some locations are okay, but it just feels super shallow. overrated imo, but still a game worth trying at least once

i 100%'d it on the hardest difficulty from the beginning and i didn't enjoy a single second of it
even worse was, in the early game, you're extremely reliant on the bubble shield spell to mitigate damage since you can only carry a very limited amount of pots and there's no healing magic. but since i was a rogue and initiated combat ahead of my party with a stealth backstab. the mages were programmed to automatically cast the bubble shield as soon as combat started on my rogue only, which lead to me struggling a lot in the early game lol

I guess I have never tried to go with the unwilling replies there because I had no idea this is the case. City elf really has no reason to try to refuse, considering what kind of lives they have. It's not like anyone outside of the Order knows about the ritual.

DA2 was terrible, never play it.
Inquisition was a little better but it was still pretty bad compared to Origins.

The Mass Effect setting was fleshed out because one or several of the writers were big sci-fi fans who had been itching to make their own setting full of their favorite ideas and tropes. The writers for the Dragon Age setting were not that type of autist and only did exactly as much worldbuilding as was necessary to serve as a backdrop for the story and visuals. In fact they probably saw this as a more professional approach at the time, since leaving the setting vague meant subsequent writing teams would be far less constrained by preexisting material.
