Zelda has dungeons, items, and a sense of progression.

Games that follow the formula of dungeon crawling to get new items that allow you to access new areas and new dungeons. The formula itself isn't that much different from Metroid, it's just presented differently. The new Zelda games are the equivalent of a Metroid game where you start with all your powers.

the closest we will ever get from now on are things like EoW, the game wasn't bad but lacked of some key "Zelda aspects", I don't mind playing as Zelda but their obsession with non-linearity is going to be the demise of this franchise.
