Playing a stealth archer mage in Oblivion Remastered

Is this a viable build? Any tips?

Breton (not gonna play as a stinking elf)

Major skills: Marksman, Sneak, Illusion, Alteration, Speechcraft, Mysticism

Agility & Intelligence

Magic focus

He looks like a mix between Dale Cooper and Solid Snake

Play real oblivion

Breton

Lmao, mutt.

chad human features

with elf benefits without the elfaggotry

Who cares if some limp dick altmer fag dicked some ancestor I don't even know, now I'll fuck their women in return.

I already did. It looks and plays worse. Just the improved combat alone is reason enough to play the remaster instead of the original, the original combat is very floaty and janky.

Stealth artcher is not viable if you plan ONLY use steatlth - you`ll not be able to 1 shot the enemies (you can if you play melee dagger assassin).

Archery in Oblivion is all about Speed - wear no armor, max speed and just kite enemies. Stealth is nice for first shot, but after that you alart whole room. You can use invis to restealth, but its not worth it. So instead of Stealth archer, you should be flash/mashinegun archer.

Replace speechcraft with conjuration.
Why the fuck would you even take speechcraft when you have illusion spells that can max out disposition with NPCs?
Also you can make weightless permanent conjured weapons and armor, the old repair and drop trick still works.

breton

warrior sign

combat focus

endurance and luck

marksman, mercantile, destruction, conjuration, restoration, athletics, sneak

this was my og minmax build, but with the new leveling system it's not necessary. get access to the college asap and put a damage buff on a decent bow and sneak attacks one shot most things. later on destruction and restoration are broken. just max endurance asap to get ahead of the fucked up level curve.

You only have to minmax on the bullshit adept+ difficulties. Anything is viable on adept, provided you're not absolutely retarded and running around naked with an iron dagger.

I didn't know those spells existed desu. I never really got into Oblivion before the remaster

wake me up when they fixed the UE5 shlop engine (donT bother, they wont)

As a guy that spent weeks tweaking ENB and testing lighting mods in Skyrim, I'm glad the game looks great vanilla.

its looks okay with the performance hunger of Crysis 5.
they cant even be assed to fix the UE5 typical microstutter.
this entire remaster is half assed shlop, hastily released to maximize profits

you dont even need illusion or magic at all

no. Playing it and quite satisfied with its quality. Performance is only issue in 4k on Ultra, especially if you DL the performance mod you almost double the fps too.

With settings i play it doesnt look very modern and amazing, but it CERTAINLY does look better than say Skyrim, or rather - its about on the same level, which is huge improvement compared to original, and lots of stuff better than in Skyrim (while some stuff looks poo, mostly because they faithfully adapted original i.e. - forests for example).

Its probably best retro remaster i seen so far, and am very satisfied with it.

Legolas build, combine speed, agility and archery.

Only problem is it doesn't work well inside dungeons with cramped spaces.

perfomance mod

yea, if you disable all UE5 features like Lumen and others you can get "stable" 60 fps or more on fat hardware. but if thats the goal why use UE5 in the first place

No, it's not like Skyrim. You weren't able to 1 shot people with bows in Oblivion. I dunno if they tweaked the damage numbers in the reskin but you will need to either kite or have a backup weapon

I don't even need to play the game either but I think it's fun. Same way I thing adding detect life spells (or fortify in case I get into combat) to my thief character is fun.

You actually can 1 shot in the remaster, at least on adept. They changed a bunch of stat shit

Breton is pretty much the best race in the game for any build. However if you are going to lean more into spells, then playing Altmer with atronach sign is even better(brokenly so if you know what you are doing). Not sure about the remaster, but in original oblivion casting fortify fatigue was one of the only ways to boost bow/melee damage once you reached 100 in the skill/attribute. The bigger the spell you can cast, the more damage you can do. Unless something is changed you can even stack multiple different spells that boost fatigue. So don't neglect your int if you want to maximize your physical damage.

There is no microstuttering in the remastered edition. This is why there's an extremely lengthy shader compiling screen when you first load the game. There is however regular stuttering when new tiles load from the ancient gamebryo engine. Though this could be them also using that moment to also compiler shaders?

Major skills: Marksman, Sneak, Illusion, Alteration, Speechcraft, Mysticism

Not how you do builds

1. Physical skill, one only (Blades, Blunt, Bows)
2. Armor (Light or Heavy)
3. Restoration + Any Magics

Never pick any other skills. i.e. you wasted your time with sneak/speechcraft. You can just craft a spell for 100 of each and use that instead.

You weren't able to 1 shot people with bows in Oblivion

Yes you can, with either magic or poison

Firing a bow feels slow as shit in the remastered version. I cant legolas like this.

builds mattering in any Bethesda game past morrowind

Lighting bow + weakness to magic + weakness to lighting = one shot
Any bow + poison = one shot

The one problem with stealth archer is you occasionally come across a heavy armor two handed weapon bandit who tanks damage and one shots you because your armor is so low from sneaking all the time

builds mattering in Morrowind

In the first 10 minutes maybe. Once you just embrace sujamma and alchemy and start drinking yourself to perfection, you'll be alright.

erm... that's not the meta bro

Bro I refuse to play with the games mechanics why is it so shit!?

You keep building that bridge out of mud anon

this lol. speechcraft and security are dead skills. you can just spam alteration to unlock chests and learn other useful magic. and spam illusion to charm people and learn other useful magic. rogue sissies bow to wizchads

It's Oblivion, you absolutely need magic

This
I'm a smooth talking archer bard who minimally uses magic and can't repair his own armor and learned how to shoot a bow from marksman skill 19, game is a breeze so far

Is this a viable build?

Oblivion was the game that introduced the stealth archer, and why many people immediately knew to play it again when skyrim rolled around.

If you're just having fun (AS YOU FUCKING SHOULD, WHICH YOU ARE) then yeah, steal archer mage is good but might get boring since you're just clicking on enemies so try to pick up a sword or blunt weapon at some point. General rule of thumb with Oblivion is that for the major skills you do NOT want to pick what you're actually building for. So you want to be an archer, pick swords. Why? Because Major minor just dictates how fast you learn those skills. If you pick bow and use it the whole time, obviously it shouldn't pose much of a problem, hell if you picked it as a Major you'll probably master it before level 10 but it doesn't matter since you'll use it all the time and get better quickly at it regardless if it's major or minor. You don't want to get mid-late game and go "time to switch it up" and realize your sword skill is 15 with zero possibility of learning.

If you want to min-max like a little shit or have just played Oblivion a billion times already, none of the skills matter since you can make hyper spells incredibly easy at the Wizard Tower. Lockpicking? Skill: Lockpicking, Magnitude: 100, Time: 1, Magicka cost: 20. Never have to worry about lockpicking again (or just get the skelly key). Personality/mercantile? Same shit. Money? Use the newly introduced dupe glitch. Massive 2000 magicka cost nigger annihilator faggot destroyer spells that could nuke the imperial city? Use the absorb magicka enchantment glitch. But honestly, why would you ever want to go God mode in this game before beating it?

they changed how the remaster leveling system works. you don't have to do the counterintuitive autism anymore.

General rule of thumb with Oblivion is that for the major skills you do NOT want to pick what you're actually building for.

doesnt work that way in the remaster really since you get level ups from both major and minor skills. you'll just end up underpowered.

You can break enemy AI by enchanting Drain Speed 100 on your bow, enemies with 0 speed won't move and won't even attack you even if they have a ranged attack.

Based, I totally forgot about that.

0 speed doesn't stop movement or attacking entirely. What it does is reduce the aggro range to zero. They can still attack if you stand right next to them, but that of course is no concern for a bow character.

is one of the most overpowered "builds" viable

caring about "builds" in TES in the first place

Fuck you, eat shit and die, you are a waste of space

Stealth archery isn't that great in Oblivion without poisons, or a lot of game knowledge. A new player will find it very underwhelming.

my bro told me to go stealth archer way back on my very first playthrough. it was great. most things died in one hit, and things that didn't would walk around aimlessly looking for you like tardos until losing aggro and dying to a second shot. eventually everything died to one shot. stealth in general is also invaluable for avoiding unwanted conflicts, and trivialized most of the quests in the game. you don't actually have to attack everything you see.

Anon I dropped this game after like 2 hours back when it forst came out and I've only just started playing the remaster. How tf am I supposed to know what's overpowered and what is worth caring about?

You don't one shot enemies at normal difficulty.

Play the real oblivion instead of doing viral marketing pajeet. You can't get 60 fps on a 5090 so you sure as hell can't run it.

Damage scaling and magicka regen in Oblivion is absolute dogshit.
Archery is good because you can inflict damage without a stun loop - which absolutely fucking happens regardless of enemy paralyze status and anyone saying otherwise is full of shit. Takes a while though. Oblivion is kinda shit just throw it on easy and get through the quests and then whatever.

I literally get a message saying that I'm below the system requirements and that I probably won't be able to run the game correctly.

Got most settings on medium-high, lumen on high, 1080p with AI upscale, FPS locked to 30 (I don't like going from 60 in dungeons to 30 in overworld, consistent 30 feels more natural and is easy to get used to), downloaded performance fix + motion blur fix. Runs like a console game, I get trees with giant dorito leaves for a couple of seconds after loading, it could be better but it looks good and it plays fine

Btw I'm a white European and my dick is big

casual RPG, easy as fuck

all this endless autism about builds and talking like cheesing and abusing broken mechanics is the only valid way to play

Yes. And it still is miles better than original and looking ranging from "acceptable" to "amazing"

I am lvl 15 and my major skills are Smithing, Speech, Sneak, Acrobatics, Athletics and few useless magic.

They changed so you get full 12 points of stats every level and doesnt matter what skills you have. I also have zero trouble with having leveled "useless skills" and autoleveling, i still 1-2 shot everything with magic and autoleveling is only benefit since get better loot.

Generally i find your stats are actually mostly irrelevant too - only ones that matter are speed, int/wis if you go mage, and that is (personalitty, unironically my favorite stat now due to vendor haggling and speech minigame)

You can littterally play the game naked, with minimal endurance, strength and agility and still do well. Even on higher difficulty, only thing that chances is how many hits enemy ttake - and witth high speed melee is trivial and only dangers are ranged attacks, which are also easily avoided mostly.
