Which one should I get?
Which one should I get?
Steam deck, at least it has games.
Deck
Oh what game is specifically released for the steam deck?
Why do people think HDR is a thing on edge lit displays lol.
SDR on an OLED is more "HDR"
The deck is pretty much a portable PC, you can already emulate switch games with better fps on their native console.
SDR on an OLED is more "HDR"
holy cope
why the fuck did they gave the switch 2 a 120hz screen if most games are locked at 30?
Explain how HDR can even work without FALD?
Every shitty "hdr400" monitor or "HDR" edge lit tv always fails and looks like ass with HDR on
Back when I was a kid I didnt pick a console to buy. If there were games I wanted to play I would get the console that played those games. You dont just buy a console to own a console, its a tool. You dont buy a hammer if theres nothing you need to nail.
One would think, given they're using a SoC by Nvidia, they'd just use frame gen, but only Metroid Prime 4 is reported to have a 120 fps mode, as if they wanted to keep their frame gen exclusive to their last two gen GPUs.
so they can charge more for it and make more money
I know this isn't a serious question, but the Steam Deck is a better option simply based on the library. You have near infinite games between Steam, being able to add your own PC games easily that aren't on Steam, and emulation. Also games have potential for being way cheaper since Steam regularly has sales, and you can buy keys off third party sites for even cheaper. Furthermore if you ever get a PC, then your library transfers over. If you can get both, great. If you are actually deciding between one or the other the Steam Deck. I would spring for the Oled model though.
Steam Deck easily
Was with you until the hammer thing, that's nigger thinking
spec clearly says HDR
but it's not the Deck so it doesn't count
You can still pirate most games, just not Denuvo ones.
If you don't have a pc, get the deck, if you do have a pc get switch 2
It's not a complicated decision anon
You should already own a hammer, its not a perfect analogy
Both, but you missed the 64 gigas steam deck model
Who cares about the deck, explain how you can have increased contrast and black blacks but with 1000% brightness highlights, if your "HDR" mode just sets the backlight to 100% across the entire screen?
all of Sony's games
Steam deck can play stalker, homm3 and jagged alliance 2.
You can't beat that.
Steam Deck is fucking godly, I'm so glad I gave it a shot and bought one.
is the Deck 2 real? or is it just dumb rumors?
[pictured] does not play natively on any Switch
every single one of them including the ability to use it as a mini computer
all switch games
But switch plays plays switch games plus the overpriced switch online retro games, so it has games
it's not a real game unless it's exclusive
n-no it doesn't matter that it can play everything and its library utterly dwarfs any console, shut up
Exclusivity is pure console cancer brainrot for useful idiots. Literally nobody with an IQ above 90 would want PC to start taking games hostage for specific hardware setups.
It doesn't get most of the big name games people actually care about, some shitty Princess Peach game doesn't make up for that.
They're working on it, but waiting for a significant enough leap for it to be worth it. It'll likely be out within 2 years.
2 years
isn't that when the Sony's handheld is also rumored to come out?
Nice low IQ miss the point post.
He implied the switch 2 didn't have games because it's launching with a handful, when it plays switch games. So that poster was the retard simultaneously holding the opinion that a game isn't an game if it isn't exclusive, but also that non exclusive games(on the deck) are actual games. Cognitive dissonance, so I proposed to unify his thought process, and ask if any exclusives exists for the deck to qualify his implied no games inference for the switch 2.
Inb4 but deck can play MORE games non-sequitor
Dunno, doesn't matter to me unless it's a handheld PC like the Deck.
thanks, guess i'll wait just a little bit longer
Switch 2 feels way better in hand and lighter. Play your PC games on in your PC and use the switch for hand-held/ on the go gaming.
Yeah, it's rumored to be releasing around the same time as the PS6 in 2027. The rumors are stating that it's aiming to play PS5 games though and PS6 ones but if this gen is anything to go by, those will be the same thing.
all of nintendo games. literally 100%
Switch 2
actual performance TBD
actual battery life TBD
will likely be less comfortable to hold
restrictive functionality
will likely be harder to repair / mod
the games (You) care about will be more expensive
Not saying the Deck is miracle machine or that I would recommend it to everyone. However, it’s a pretty great alternative to the Switch / Switch 2 if you can cope with missing out on future 1st/2nd party games for a while. There’s a chance the Switch 2 will play AAA games better if it drives devs to optimize properly. The dream scenario is that the Switch 2 will force AAA to be more optimized for lower power (handheld) machines, in general.
also inb4 the deck plays switch games better than the switch!
(So does the switch 2 and much better since 1080p screen)
It hurts that much when tendie shitposts are turned against you, huh. I'm sure you totally bitch all the time whenever you see the usual spammed "switch has games" image and start ranting about 'well ackshually everything else has games too' instead of simply having the cognitive dissonance you claim to be fighting against.
HDR label doesn’t mean shit, my 300 nit monitor is hdr10 certified and if I enable hdr on it it will look like shit, because you need 500+ nit for it to look like shit on non-oled display
I have 2 gaming PCs, ps5, 2 switches, Asus rog ally, and switch 2 preorder I think I've got games to play
I've held both and the deck feels like a brick in hand compared to the switch 2.
Switch 2 ios 1,500 knits
actual battery life TBD
Switch 2 battery life isn't TBD, it's 2-6 hours, worse than the LCD Steam Deck's 2-8 hours.
Do not cap, no 3d game released in the last 10 years will run longer than 2 hours on deck
That has nothing to do with what I said.
My tv is 1500 nit, no way the battery won’t be dead in 15 minutes at that brightness
I don’t really believe you, but that’s only informed by how uncomfortable I found the original Switch to be. In contrast, the internet tries to paint the Deck as being made of lead, but it really isn’t heavy at all (and the grips are nice). The flat, thin profile of the Switch 2 doesn’t look to be an improvement in comfort (to me).
Switch and joycon ergonomics blow ass and the Switch 2 is literally just bigger and heavier without fixing anything. Deck's ergonomics blow it out of the water.
You can set any internal resolution on a Switch emulator. But the Deck is pointless, especially since devices like the Asus ROG Ally with the Z1 Extreme, 16 gb RAM, and 512 GB storage has been on sale for €368.12 (current exchange rates) for like months.
inb4 nu-uh can't find it
only about 5% of your "amazing steam library" is really playable on a tiny screen that will crush text and hide game details.
switch 2 peak brightness is 400 nits
Why lie on the internet
got a steamdeck when it was on sale, and have only played a single game on it for now.
in 99% of cases, I will be sitting in front of my PC when I decide to play some vidya, and then I just stay there since M+K is better anyway
Yeah I have one
Nits don't matter if it has no local dimming (for HDR, it will matter if you are gaming outside)
Even taking that at face value, it's still objectively better battery life than the Switch 2.
Werks on my machine.
Switch 2
Streamlined experience, pick up and play
120hz/fps in -some- titles as opposed to 90/60hz
A few AAA ports that the Deck will struggle with (but at something like 30 or 40fps still)
Nintendo exclusives
Lighter
Deck
Always and forever more games, a dream for people who don't obsess over AAA
OLED and actual HDR for a model that's not much pricier
Has been improving with updates and mods to run shit that it used to struggle with and it doesn't have botched ports
Obviously more comfortable to hold, if you ever held a switch
The OS is more malleable, it's a fucking gaming laptop
Unless your eyes are total garbage, no. And especially not with OLED. 94% of my gametime is now on the Deck.
It probably will since the device is bigger allowing for more battery with a dimmer and less resolution and refresh screen
Deck is better by virtue of being extremely versatile. Switch 2 is an overpriced bing bing wahoo machine but without even a bing bing wahoo game. I would really wait before buying a Switch2, both so the issues that come with the launch of a new console are ironed out and so it gets an actual library of games, plus there is a chance it sells poorly and the price drops in 9 months. Also if you get a Deck now buy one used, just be sure the seller is not a fat fuck who looks like he posts his dick on Anon Babble.
Also the claims about Switch 2 performance are more rumor than truth, wait until it's released and people can actually test it out before making retarded claims about 4k 120fps.
Can't play Mario Kart World, Donkey Bonanza, Metroid, Xenoblade, Duskbloods and Zelda on the deck. I can play my PC games just fine on my PC. Easy choice for me.
So again, the switch 2 playing switch 1's Bing Bing doesn't count, but deck playing it or other games not released exclusively for it does count?
Don't know about you ragging faggots, but I just play with myself.
Which one should I get?
The one that's an actual gaming platform.
Obviously it counts but why buy a Switch 2 to play Switch 1 games? The Switch 2 would be great value for a normie who hasn't owned a console in a long time and wants to get back into video games but if you already have a powerful PC and a Switch, maybe even a handheld PC then what the fuck are you doing? Switch 1 games on PC/Deck is worth mentioning because it's the massive PC/emulation library + Switch 1 games, PC literally has everything, what does Switch 2 have?
Build a PC and have Nintendo console. If you're not doing this, you're not a gamer. Simple as.
Bigger screen
Much better screen
Dock is bundled in ($90 for Valve dock)
Controller for couch play is bundled in ($50 for GamSir)
Thinner and lighter
Stronger hardware
Nintendo exclusives
Plays 3rd party games better
Is capable of playing current 3rd party games while Deck shits itself
Switch 2, no question. It's cheaper, has better hardware and will continue getting games for years while Deck is already outdated.
I'm waiting for ally 2 or legion 2
Since they don't have a chip yet unless they've been working with amd for questioning custom, you're still 1-2 years away, at least.
thousands of games vs hundreds of thousands of games + mods + free online + emulation + freedom
Thanks, bought a Deck.
1090:1080
4:3 chads rise up!
I bought
PC gaming is the villain of the industry. Nothing good has come from trying to appease it and turn your whole library over to Valve.
That's why I'm waiting for a Switch 2 revision. Anything new and third party is probably getting an hour and half of battery life with that screen. I wouldn't even consider an LCD deck because of the battery life either, the OLED's jump in battery life is too much better.
Now that Decksuckers won't be able to emulate switch games anymore, are they finally going to kill themselves?
it's also quiet contrary to the deck
dumb nigger cant count
shocking, genuinely shocking
MP4 and the new Pokemon are crossgen so PC/Deck players will be playing those 2 to 3 weeks before the official release again. It's wild to see people act like Nintendo isn't going for the same approach Sony went for when they had "no gaems" with the PS5.
They're going to claim setting everything to "trash" and running games at 240p to eke out few more minutes of battery life makes Deck superior
Deck if you are not a mindless, NPC drone. If you care about being hip and mainstream then switch 2.
An OLED deck is pricey but a better investment.
You can literally never buy one fucking Steam game and you'll have millions of them to play still.
On the switch 2, if you don't want to spend the new full price they established, you're stuck with some mobile tier garbage/switch 1 games that you still -have- to buy.
On the contrary, it's consolefaggotry and their braindead consoomers who have been a bane on this hobby for too long. Fuck valve, but unlike the others they don't fuck over the rest of the system and hardware
Late Switch games getting Switch 2 ports is the same as PS5 games getting PS4 ports.
You are so desperate you are trying to rewrite reality.
Gaming was better when Sony, Nintendo, Sega and later Microsoft ran the industry. We had better games and culture.
Is happening but not even close, like for what purpose? to play modern cinematic jank that won't work anyway because devs refuse to optimize?
there's no switch 1 games in 2026, you have at best 6 months to enjoy a couple games more (if the outdated and abandoned emulators can even run them), then your Deck goes back to being a brick.
Switch 2 can play my switch carts, deck cant.
Also rog ally mogs deck
get whatever the newest handheld thing is. the ROG Ally beats the fuck out of the steamdeck and you can play whatever the fuck you want on it. im sure youll also need its extra horse power when switch 2 games get emulated.
Game development takes 5 to 7 years now, those were late PS4 games getting PS5 ports. They started development as PS4 games. Think about how fucked that is, a game that started development right when the PS5 released might not release until the PS6 is out.
Crossgen is crossgen though, Nintendo will run into the same issue Sony did of trying to figure out how to convince people to upgrade when they can play Pokemon on their current Switch. Neither company wanted to abandon their 100+ million install base instantly and I think the Switch is around 150 million now so there's no way they'd abandon that until more people move over.
See my last sentence above this.
considering the only reason anyone bought the deck is to emulate switch 1 games, you should get switch 2 for both new nintendo games and backwards compatibility with switch 1 games.
nintendo will totally be as retarded as sony!
I am sorry but they won't, stop coping and see reality. There might be switch 1 games in the future but they'll be C-tier games at best like Tomodachi shit
paying any amount of money for a Steam Deck
Steam Inventory-let spotted, lmao
$80 games
paid online
no mod support
no emulation
retro games behind paywall
butchered ports
doesn't even use an SSD (pay up for the speshul SD card paypiggie)
no but I actually enjoy playing on a 10 cm long screen the human eye is not meant for TVs you see my pain means I'm right
I hope that's a sticker and you didn't take the absurd amount of time replacing the front shell with that indian colored one
People don't know the joy of buying a console with skins
Both are beholden to shareholders and that's how you make the most profit in a publicly traded company. Anything that they can get to run on the Switch 1 will be released there for a while, in the same way anything that can run on the PS4 is still being released there. They're probably holding off on releasing the next 3D Mario until the Switch 2 install base is bigger, which is why they opted for a smaller DK game in the launch window which is one of their less popular franchises but it still acts as a reason for people to upgrade.
I'm at the point where in a few years I will not have to spend money on Steam ever again. I have 1000+ Fracture Cases that I bought at the floor after using wallet money I made from Horizon Cases when CS2 was announced. Also used that money to get a Steam Deck and a fuckton of games.
They're probably holding off on releasing the next 3D Mario until the Switch 2 install base is bigger, which is why they opted for a smaller DK game in the launch window which is one of their less popular franchises but it still acts as a reason for people to upgrade.
you understand that defeats your own logic, right? They would only act like this if they think they can sell a lot of consoles already without bringing their top new releases forwards. But if that is true, then they don't need to keep switch 1 owners in the loop to keep making more money. It's either or.
Get a Steam Deck for personal use, and get a Switch 2 for when people come over. The one strength of the Switch was the fact you can easily play couch multiplayer without any fuss, which is the opposite of the Steam Deck (Bluetooth controllers are still dogshit on the thing.)
...in opposite land.
Can't wait for Deck 2 to come out in 2 years, maybe I'll check out your hostage IPs-
OH WAIT, METROID PRIME 4 IS EMULATABLE DAY ONE KEEEEEEEEEK
Can you play Monster Hunter on the Shitch 2?
I'm incompetent so I've been only able to sell shit back when CS:GO wasn't even a thing
1090x1080
Based and predator-pilled, steamie dicks in suicide watch
Playing morrowind on mine right now, the control scheme is great, even the back buttons are used also the SSD completely eliminated load times
OH WAIT, METROID PRIME 4 IS EMULATABLE DAY ONE KEEEEEEEEEK
Holy cope
Do you want Nintendo games? Switch 2
Don't want Nintendo games? Steam deck
Nintendo can't poof 50 million consoles into the air over night, it takes years to build up enough supply to even have a decent install base. Even with the mega launch of 8 million units, we'll probably end the year with around 15 million Switch 2 consoles in the wild. Selling a new Pokemon to 15 million people compared to 150 million people is a big difference, that's why crossgen exists and why every company is doing it.
Reminder, we had better games before everyone started to mass migrate over to PC and build them
Deck if you are a clueless Pcbro.
Switch 2 if you are a cucked Nintendo fan.
Both if you are a bit dumb idort.
None if you are a seething snoy.
That's okay
My friend who is my case stock broker has over $100,000 in cases, he's stated that he's using CS to build his retirement and that the hardest part of what he intends to do is how he's going to actually get money out of his Steam Wallet into USD since so much of that value is depreciated. He really started when Chroma cases were dirt cheap and has been going ever since. I kick myself for not seeing that early on too, I mean I remember rapid fire selling my Bravo cases when they were like a quarter.
Jagged Alliance 2 released 26 years ago tho
You know full well the Switch 1 copy is going to be dumped. Actually, I wonder what happens if you put a Switch 2 cart into one of those Switch 1 dumpers?
Only for a brief period in the 2000s (right before consoles went to shit with the disaster of 8th gen gaming)
brings up sony out of nowhere
Rent free.
Só that shitty indies need to optimize their dogshit 2d platform eras because no way in hell should they have difficulties reaching 120fps even on a regular switch 1
Shitch poo will be emulated within days
is an OLED deck worth it if i already have the most expensive lcd deck
i don't have a computer
I really dont see how the two are comparable besides general size and shape.
With the deck you can play 99% of all games
With the switch 2 you can play switch 2 games and half a cup of retro games
Its the leather dbrand skin to contrast my stone buttons
dunno
Sure if you can get it refurbished. Id rather wait for a deck 2 if I already had a LCD deck.
Nah, unless you got money burning a hole in your pocket
Computers are always better than consoles.
You'll want to buy a console if you're giving it to a very young child, however.
No, also since you don't have a pc you should buy a device that let's you use an external gpu in the future instead of a deck2
EGPUs are gay, at that point he may as well buy a desktop and inhome stream the beefy games
People are buying a Switch 2 for the exclusives
If you don't care about any Nintendo exclusives then just buy a deck
Unless you already have a mid range-high end PC then I don't see the point in a deck unless you want 15 fps on games like MH wilds due to lazy devs
muh exclusives
Exclusives are a meme.
The Deck can play any game I want it to play. That's all that matters. I have my deck hooked up to my TV right now so I can play Sierra adventure games in bed.
what's the next xenoblade? xenoblade X2? or chronicles 4?
Except when they are exclusive. Do you even listen to yourself? I wouldn't buy a switch if I wanted to play old adventure games but that's the same argument.
Well Takahashi said the Xenoblade trilogy is over so either a Saga game or X2 probably
With the ending of XDE and Future Redeemed there could also just be a new series entirely
MEDIEVAL MECHA PLEASE!!
thats the same argument
Not really, old sierra games can be played on a number of systems, they arent exclusive in the sense that Mario Kart World is exclusive
Deck, but for now i'm waiting for steam deck 2
So if I want to play Mario Kart World I have to buy a Switch 2? Woah.
they should update that fucking lcd on deck
Except when they are exclusive. Do you even listen to yourself?
The amount of exclusive games I care about on a typical Nintendo console is around 4, maybe 5, and typically they're third party. So I don't really give a shit about exclusives.
I wouldn't buy a switch if I wanted to play old adventure games but that's the same argument.
Theoretical, if we go by the logic of "exclusives", the Deck is the current console with by far the MOST exclusives bar none. Anything prior to PS4/XBO is no longer being produced, and PCs aren't consoles, so the Deck wins the gay exclooosives race.
I didn't write that's not the case. I only wrote that it's a weird comparison. While there's no emulator and I want to play new MK I have to buy a Switch. If he wants to play adventure games he has to buy some kind of a computer. That's it.
Deck of course, you can control drone and gun turrets with that
Youll never be able to play xenosaga on Switch 2, so Deck
Got me. Well done anon
Not even a contest
every "exclusive game" released on the right will also be available on the left for free
steam deck is the ultimate "game preservation" (read: piracy) tool in existence and you are doing yourself a disservice NOT having one
It is happening but knowing valve there wont be one till worldwide fab issues are fixed, everything modern is too expensive.
implying the Steamdeck will be able to emulate a console thats more powerful than it.
ROG Ally maybe, Steamdeck is getting really old in the tooth.
Ally gets outperformed by the Deck unless you turn on the jet engine fans at which point the battery lasts for 40 minutes
Prepare to be surprised
The one that can play cunny games.
good morning sir
I don't think any people actually exist who don't know which one they would want.
neither if you have any dignity left
Deck.
Gabe announce deck 2 already which can run unoptimised jap slop at 60 frames
