"It's too late."

Why? You're NEVER GOING TO PLAY A GAME just because it took too long to come out? Are you really that busy?

I didn't have a job when I played the first 2 games.

It's not that I'm too busy, it's that after 21 years I don't care.

Pathetic behavior.

Are you going to say the same thing for GTA VI?
GTA V came out in 2013.
It's been 12 years since GTA V came out.

All the people who made the first 2 amazing have retired. Maybe the game will be good, but it won't be Half-Life 3. How exactly am I supposed to get excited when the guy who literally wrote the games doesn't even work at Valve anymore?

Yes, absolutely. I was very underwhelmed with GTA V and I have no confidence in their ability to craft an interesting or challenging narrative with the sheer size and cost it took to develop the game.

THIS GAME IS TAKING FOREVER TO COME OUT ITS GONNA BE DA EVENT OF THE CENTURY!!!!1

No.

Only storyfags say this shit
You WILL care if the game is as revolutionary as HL1 and 2. If you won't, you're a fake gamer

you're a fake gamer

Are you 12?

This thread reeks of kids who missed out on HL1 and HL2 and are desperate for HL3 to be as much of a cultural event.

Could you honestly think of something related to video games that you would feel the same excitement and passion for at 38 years old the same way you did when you were 17? Are you even 21 years old?

Do you have any idea how many people died during 2007-2025?

I can't say I really get the overexcitement for gta6 either, its just going to be a slightly prettier but also lamer rdr2.

It's too late because the hype is completely dead. The care is completely dead. Shit, the widest audience is under the age of 18, and they were a glimmer in their dad's eye when it came out.
Not only that, how do we innovate FPS games in 2025, without straying too far away from the core Half-Life experience? You'd be playing a prettier Half-Life 2, and say it's shit, but in 2010, you wouldn't have.
It's too late. Even I'm going to say it, and I want it to succeed.

No you fucking retard.
People just moved on.
Even if it comes out it's not going to deliver or match the hype because that's outright impossible.
It's going to be another Duke Nukem Forever.
Yes I'll play it anyway because I loved the previous ones.
No, I don't expect it will have same impact as 2nd one had for example.

I was never really as hyped for Half Life games as a whole.
It's more about what they represent for the modding community that I loved.
I only played Half-Life because of Age of Chivalry, a Half Life 2 mod.
I absolutely loved playing it and other games like Zombie Master, Zombie Panic Source, Garrysmod, The Hidden: Source, Eternal Silence, Dystopia, Empires:RTS/FPS game, the list goes on.
I want Source 2 to release a SDK kit that unleashes a torrent of free and paid mods that capture that same optimized fun sandbox of game and map design that didn't focus too much on graphics, but rather how the game made the player feel.

because i'm old and I don't have the same enthusiasm anymore

the dinner is late, I'm gonna stay hungry forever now

Retard

More like I ate something else already.

The people who made half-life good are gone. I don't give a shit what some zoomers want to turn the series into. Same reason I will never play alyx

It's not late, I just don't care because I'm so used to seeing the "rumor" of HL3
so no matter how believable source the rumor has, I have zero interest unless Valve releases a trailer

What? Are you insinuating that there's never anything else to eat? Do you seriously think it's weird to move on from waiting for something after two whole decades?

inb4 they pull another Citadel (Deadlock), and the rumored HL3 is going to be another MOBA-esque trash that has nothing to do with Half-Life what-so-ever

it was never that good, it was a good game that you play through once but are the most overrated games ever. i don't care about 3 and they can never meet expectations

I have a serious question. Once every 1-4 years there's been some sort of rumor or """leak""" about Half-Life 3 being in development ever since episodes 1 and 2 dropped. The people that get legitimately hyped for it can't be that same people from back then, can they? Is tenth time the charm? What makes this leak or rumor more plausible than the last eight or so? Why is anyone convinced this is the one?

this. Valve is not the same company they were in 2008

There's no game like half life, keep trying

There's always a new generation that gets into Half-Life way later, I think that just happens in 4-year cycle
sure everybody knows "Half-Life 3 confirmed" meme, but unless you've experienced what it feels to actually get fooled by these rumors, the first rumor they are going to hear is going to feel like "This Time. It's REAL"

First they made Alyx in 2020 and the end tease HL3

videogamer.com/news/valve-artist-states-half-life-3-is-actually-being-made/

a Valve artist said on April 8 that HL3 is in dev, since 2020 there’s a HLX project mentioned in Source 2 updates (HL Alyx was mentioned for years in Source 2 updates under the name HLVR before it was announced in 2019), Gabe Follower said that this new HL game is playtested right now

i.imgur.com/7AftXmR.jpeg

Also since 2024 some Valve employees are now referencing HL3 randomly out of the blue to friends

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this or not, but I was in the room where they make Half-Life 3,” the artist said. “However, I didn’t see the actual development itself; I just saw the office, the computers, the whiteboards. And, as I understood it, making HL3 isn’t their first attempt.”

Anon, if you seriously believe this then I have a bridge to sell you. There's been 2 other stories just like this since 2020 alone.

How do you have hope for that weak-ass sauce when HL2: EP3 (aka HL3 before HL3), got cancelled despite having WAY stronger sauce than that, and Gabe literally saying "oh yeah it's going to come out soon lol"

Except there is? Have you only ever played HL1 and 2 and no other linear corridor shooter with gimmicks and vehicle sections since?

can't name a single one

that's what i thought

There's always a new generation that gets into Half-Life way later, I think that just happens in 4-year cycle

Yeah, there are always people interested with Half-Life one way or another. Many of them nowadays came because new memes coming out from gmod or something but it's there.

the entire Halo series

CoD Infinite Warfare

Prey 2006 and 2017

NuWolfenstein

The entirety of the Metro Series

Industria

Atomic Heart

You're going to reject this completely out of hand but there are a lot of other games that take cues from HL2 and build upon/change the corridor shooter forumla with light puzzle solving and vehicle sections. A lot of them are pretty good too, you should try some of them.

generic FPSlop

no physics gameplay

no lore

no experimental levels

try. again.

Why do we need a sequel to slowslop when Doom Eternal already perfected the genre? Half Life is obsolete.

This is incredibly bad bait. Just letting you know.

V was garbage. I don't enjoy mandatory car towing, crane operating and pretend yoga in my cool gangster game. I went back to SR2. Why would I look forward to VI when RDR2 had the same awful cinematic mission design?

Anon, Prey 2006 has literally every criteria you listed here aside from being generic and that released two years after HL2.

You don't think they'd come back? Not making HL3 is probably the single biggest regret in their careers. If they have a chance to fix that, they'll come back to Valve as contractors and then retire for good. In fact, I'm pretty sure Laidlaw actually helped with the writing of Alyx. Speaking of Alyx, despite it being a different dev team, they managed to capture the feel of HL2 pretty well and made a great game, so HL3 will likely be great as well.

That would be awesome if it did happen and I could see how it could. I don't think it has a chance of being as industry changing as the other games but I would gladly play it.

I just don't think it wall contain any of what made me like the original Half-Life games. Most of the original devs are retired and those that are left have had 20 years to become radically different people. I already don't like most of the stuff Valve made in the past ten years, and really I didn't like a lot of the stylistic choices they made in Half Life Alyx.

they managed to capture the feel of HL2 pretty well

No they didn't. Its a good game, but stylistically it only bears a passing resemblance to HL2. Just look at how hard they tried to avoid massive warhammer shoulder pads in HL2 vs the heavy enemies in Alyx. That difference is emblematic of everything that makes Alyx not a true Half-Life game.

Halo

Fair enough, but the Halo games came out around the same time and still have a very different feel.

Cod

No

Prey

The first one is a Doom 3 clone, which was a Half-Life clone, so fair. 2017 is a System Shock sequel in everything but name.

Wolfenstein

Too slow and custscene heavy to be truly like Half-Life but I appreciated the effort.

Metro

Metro is nothing like Half-Life. I don't know how you even made this connection.

Atomic Heart

More of a Bioshock clone.

I'm not gonna say there aren't games like it in terms of gameplay, but I will say that no other game comes close to how well Half-Life executed it, and Half-Life's tone and atmosphere have never been done again.

valve cant make games, it will be as embarrassing as shartifact

I don’t want Half-Life 3. I want Artifact.

Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.

>generic FPSlop

thats HL2
