I don't think key-cards are THAT bad. I'd absolutely prefer full physical, but for me the benefits of physical over digital are the ability to lend them to a friend, give them away, sell them, etc. and that they give more options for purchasing. An all-digital future puts ALL of the control in hands of publishers, who can jack up prices and there isn't shit we can do, roll out subscription services on top of subscription services, etc. Key-cards still have retail shelf space to give options to consumers, and are infinite-use so you can lend/sell them. The only real downside is the storage space used, and the internet requirement for the initial download. "Preservation" is a bullshit argument, there's absolutely no way these won't be downloadable for decades to come. Wii games can still be downloaded and they did not plan for shit with that storefront, this is something pre-planned from the jump for this use. There's zero chance they "shut off the servers" and lock millions of people out of their legally purchased games. Also Switch carts use flash memory that won't hold up for that long, anyway, so physical preservation has a set time limit as it is. I'd also argue modern games don't need to worry about preservation as they're constantly ported to every new system anyway.

My best guess is that the new carts are so expensive that having multiple size options would be even more costly. Maybe Nintendo is banking on producing enough of the 64gb carts that they eventually get cheaper to mass produce, and that size would fit a good portion of games.

The system suits my needs. Emulation is (mostly) seamless at this point, and the major releases from gens 7 & 8 are cheaper + often run better on Deck than they did on the consoles they originally released on.

The Switch 2 seems like a fine “main” console if you don’t mind the direction Nintendo has been going in for the last decade. It’s really no worse than the major competitors. Moving to PC (or a PC handheld) is the only real alternative, and of course, it comes with its own list of tradeoffs.

It depends on what you consider a main console. If it's the one that gets the most use, I'd say it's almost inevitable for the majority of people. If you're judging by where it would be the ideal place to play the latest AAA release, then not really. Games like Monster Hunter Wilds already run like shit even on high-end PCs, assuming a port is possible at all, it will still be a significantly degraded experience. I also expect those kinds of games to still be locked at 30fps, which can be a deal-breaker depending on the genre.

It fits the console quite well. Snagged this for 10 bucks and i'm having fun, although the boss fights kind of suck, I've just been running and away and spamming magic.
