When you nailed down all the design work and systems then you finalize it by using real assets. Even if you provide a significant amount of training data in your own style, the base model is still gonna be originally built off of scraping the entire internet. It's functionally impossible to build an entire model from scratch with references sourced from only one or two people. You need millions of images.

You don’t get the point. Overtraining does not necessary lead to a decrease in model size. They had a problem with hands - there are two methods to solve them. First is to shove the model more properly drawn hands and increase the “punishment” for not drawing them correctly during the training, this won’t affect performance and will improve the quality of hands, but will also decrease the quality of everything else, since the model now concentrates more on drawing hands and a bit less on everything else, so you need more data of everything else and you need to balance it back and forth to get an improvement. This solution is not scalable, since in the end a current set of neurons has a limit of how much it can be trained and fixing one thing will eventually lead to a lower quality of another and less variation. That is how your models get bigger but dont have a performance requirements jump. There is also a second option - increasing number of neurons and improving the network design. This will also lead to better quality of hands and will not shit up the quality of everything else or decrease variance but will require more computing power and that is why pretty much every new version of AI made by a big corporation requires way more resources, they simply can’t make a quality jump by overtraining while keeping desired variance of the outputs.
