I hate what modern SE has become and hope they get a rude awakening from all this, not just E33 but also BG3 and others.

It's crazy that Square Enix managed to fumble the Final Fantasy VII Remake by giving it to Nomura. Like, all they had to do was make Final Fantasy VII again. That's it. That's all they had to do and it would have sold 10 million copies.

...but they gave it to the Kingdom Hearts guy and he... well, he turned it into Kingdom Hearts by adding Whispers and multiverses. All they had to do was not do the exact thing that they did, and it would be 10/10 everywhere with sales off the charts.

I don't know what HAS been learned, Square Enix aren't exactly known for their quick intake, but I can argue what should have been learned:

going multiplat day-1 is smart

good word-of-mouth can carry you further than cringe advertisements (youtube.com/watch?v=FwUcv65330g)

betraying your fanbase to make actionslop might not have been a good idea

smaller development has it's advantages

milking your franchises will lead to devaluing

This. The FF7 remake was suppose to be low-hanging fruit. All they had to do was give the original game a new coat of paint and maybe expand slightly on some side content and minor systems.
